Why is there so little Bible discussion on a forum called "Bible Discussion?"

These are the "Bible Discussions" I see right now:
-- heaven help us if that Catholic thread isn't always on page 1. (May 30th, 2012. Don't you think, no matter what you just have to say, someone else said it long ago on that thread?)
-- support modern Israel against Iraq.
-- women should shut up.
-- yet another OSAS is evil thread.
-- Rich is evil.
-- captured by ISIS.
-- hearing trumpets out of no where.
-- Legalists and Sinless perfectionists.
-- Thank God we're Rejected.
-- Does the Lord show himself as human these days.
-- a couple denomination threads.
-- Heaven help us all if we don't have a couple of Sabbath threads. (And it has nothing to so with the commandments. It's sermons to no one, however they keep getting endless debates. One from 18 months ago.)
-- studying Satan threads.

Aren't many of these more worthy of the conspiracy forum or miscellaneous, since they're just scenarios? Honestly? From the general run down on how these threads go, I can gain this same information by reading news stories and opinion pieces in any liberal site online, or, just as bad, any libertarian or conservative site. At least they think they have a leg to stand on. Much of what is being said as serious responses sound like people are accepting the worldview over the Bible.

Re: Why is there so little Bible discussion on a forum called "Bible Discussion?"

Couple of reasons, one really big one I say: I think some people think that their opinion on a matter or scripture is so important it warrants a new thread so they go ahead and create a new thread lest their precious thoughts get drowned out by other posts in already existing threads and gets less attention?
Another is someone is new?
Another could be not really thinking straight?
Another could be they just don't really care about order?

Maybe there should be a central complaints forum for threads like this? Lol

Yes! We most certainly can. lol

I'd just like to read more Bible concepts and less opinion. Alas, how do I do that without adding my opinion?

I am with ya Lynn. It is what it is though. The plus side of it.......we can use humor and when some one is seeking honest help, we can derail for a while if need be. So there are some benefits.

Re: Why is there so little Bible discussion on a forum called "Bible Discussion?"

I have made a decision, which I was doing when I first became active here, to only post if I could post a relevant Scripture.

I'm also trying to stay away from constantly posting the same verses to the same topics. So not a lot of things for me to post on. So here is my closing verse for the night.

"Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." Phil. 1:2

Like this:

Romans 14:10-12

10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written,

“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,

and every tongue shall confess to God.”

12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

1 Corinthians 3:11–15

11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

2 Corinthians 5:10
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad”

Wanna discuss scripture? Here's a prophecy that hasn't been fulfilled:

Jeremiah 12:
16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, as YHWH liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

Some will say Jesus taught not to swear at all, according to kjv, however, further investigation suggests that translation is not accurate..should read do not swear falsely at all. (my opinion)

Exactly as the context is not to swear unless you are going to follow through with it!!!

Let your yes be yes and your no be no, do not say you will and then not do it.............

The point I was trying to make, (apparently not too well) was that in the last days the Gentiles will learn to swear in the name of YHWH.....according to Jeremiah 12. I also stand by that Jesus actually said do not swear falsely. Had He said do not swear by the name at all, He would have been taking away from Torah and since He chided the religious leaders for doing that, I don't think He did it either. Of course I have been studying the Hebrew Yeshua more closely than the Greek Jesus. Thank you Nehemia Gordon.

All the above.
I would give the greatest weight to the reason of new posters...the bulk of offenders seem to be new posters.

Re: Why is there so little Bible discussion on a forum called "Bible Discussion?"

our thought,

in a forum like this, there's a range from 'babes to the well-seasoned' in Christ -
the challenge is how to relate to the majority of the forum without being redundant or exalting self.

as an example:
Isaiah is the most quoted scripture in the NT, so you have to understand it to really understand the NT.
and then to understand Isaiah, we have to understand the reign of the (4)Kings, and to understand this,
we have to know and understand the history, culture, and Spiritual meaning that God is trying to get across.
further, we have to understand the foundation of scripture in order to be able to get across and share
milk or meat - we have to learn how to become all things to all men' - this is what Paul tells us.

we all have such meaningful, life-long, challenges, this separates us and claims our hearts and we learn
to love one another and minister to each member's Spiritual needs.

just to think and realize the enormity of this labor of Love is so humbling and sweet, it tells and shows us
the great kindness of our Maker, that we may have His mind and never think ourselves above what we are,
and the sure recipe for this is to continually compare our self with Jesus Christ and His glorious walk upon
the face of this earth.

I'd say that you nailed it with this one in most cases.

I've pretty much made the same determination myself.

Uh oh...what scripture can I post to verify this?

Um...er...uh...

Do you not know that ALL Bible concepts are arrived at by no other means than interpretation (opinion) of the Scriptures..... No matter how straight-forward and simple they may appear to you, or to me, or to the person who sees them entirely different than BOTH of our opposing views.

Speaking about "opinions" IS talking about Bible concepts. This stuff is not injected into our veins without our own personal reasoning and evaluation.

So, there is no true Bible concept that any one of holds.... not until Jesus comes and shows us the REAL truth...... there is only the way that particular individuals understand.

You've been to Seminary. Weren't you given a set of verses to defend against the other half of the class who had another set of verses..... Then the Prof had you swap verses with the opposing group.... and you then had to oppose the very verses you just defended? That was one of the most eye-opening classes I ever took. It taught me that, because our whole understanding of Scripture really DOES depend upon interpretation (ours, or that of someone else who we simply accept as being true) that it is never smart to get into a "Verse War" where everyone is simply quoting verses THEY have decided are the be all and end all.

I firmly believe Heaven will be full of people who never saw the Bible exactly the way the other guy standing beside them in Heaven saw it.... some, not even close to the other's view.
