"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." - 1 Corinthians 14:34-35.

There are a lot of women who preach and no one bats an eye. Except some strict denominations

Yes. So are the men. It's just tacky to yell something in the middle of a sermon.

Women preachers? That's another subject. (Sorry, I'm not in this to endlessly debate the minor stuff, just to avoid the important stuff.)

This is not going to end well.

(Grabs body armor and popcorn)

Yes, I am a traditionalist who supports the headship of a husband and the Godly submission of his wife to him, but my assessment of this thread stands.

So how do you feel about that?

There are 2 or 3 pasages of Scripture that seem to teach that. However it is certainly not your job or mine to do anything about it.

Churches that believe that this addresses a local or cultural issue are free to call women to preach.

Churches that believe that this is a general principle are free not to call women to preach.

Very few churches indeed strictly expect women to keep silent in church.

Women, in fact, even in very conservative churches; pray, sing, and make announcements.

We are not under the law. Also, did you notice it is addressing married women?

The part: "ask your husband at home" is so unrealistic in our culture sometimes. Many women who attend church have husbands that don't even read the bible. And many women read the bible and attend bible studies much more than their husbands. Many women don't even have husbands.

When this was written, there must have been no women attending meetings without their husbands. And in that culture, men must have had more advantage to learning the spiritual writings.

I agree that women should not disrupt the service (they must have been doing so at that time). And usurp authority over the man. But we all know that all the gifts of prophecy, teaching, etc. were given to women along with the men. There was a time and place for them to be ministered in the gathering of believers.

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free,
nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

In fact ,Its straight to the pit for those Ladies that even utter a peep. They will be ordered to the deepest depths of the pit where their torment is less tolerable. They are rendered mute and will never be able to utter another word for ever and ever and ever.

Most people don't realize this is another loss of salvation verse.

In fact, I will be right next these mute ladies with my sarcasm.

The Bible says that a man and woman are equal in the Lord, and that is because the only thing that separates a man and a woman is the flesh, the soul and spirit are the same.In the spiritual realm a man has no authority above a woman, but a man and woman are equal in the Lord.

But God has to have an authority structure on earth so things run smooth, like the military, government, and other organizations, that have an authority structure,so people are not fighting whose in charge, and things run smooth, like the saying too many chiefs and not enough indians, because if there is not an authority structure people may fight whose in charge which can be unproductive.

Which the authority structure on earth is God,Christ, man, woman, and angels.Angels are last in the authority structure, for they are ministering spirits sent to minister to those that shall inherit salvation, and the angels desire to look in to the salvation of the saints, because people that are with God will have a higher position in heaven, and will have a glorified body like Jesus' glorified body, and rule in the millennial reign of Christ,a privilege the angels will never have.God loves the angels but people are God's pride and joy.It was all made for people.

But although the authority structure has man above woman,it does not mean that the man can do anything according to his will, for the whole authority structure is according to God's will,it is what God wants, not what the man wants,so the man cannot glory for it is not his will but God's will.

The authority structure is all according to God's will, whether in Church or at home, and the man is to put forth God's will and not his own,so it is the same as if the woman is listening to God,so the man cannot glory or be overbearing and bossy, for it is not the man's will but God's will.

Some men extend the authority of this structure beyond what God wants,to be controlling,we will go here and we will go there, and shut your mouth because I am the man,and we do what I want, but this is not what God wants,of course this happens more frequently in the secular world, but everything is to be done according to God's will not the man's will, and Jesus would not act like this.

The Bible says for the husbands to love their wives as the Lord loves the Church,so the man should say, honey, what would you like to to and please her,not say I'm the man and be bossy and controlling.

Also the Bible says that God made woman to be a helpmate,to assist the man,so she can add input at home, and since a man and a woman are equal in the Lord, and she is a servant of Christ,if the husband acts wrong she can act in a spiritual capacity and tell him to stop.

A man and a woman are equal in the Lord, and there is no authority structure in heaven of a man being the head of the woman, because once they put off the flesh, they are the same soul wise, and the glorified body they receive is the same.

But on earth God has an authority structure so things run smooth, but it is according to God's will and not the man's will, which if the man acts properly according to this structure,it would be the same as if the woman is listening to God,so the man has nothing to glory about.

If it is any consolation to women,or a comfort,Jesus said whoever is greatest let him be a servant,so the man is actually a servant of the woman, like Christ said He is the greatest of all but He came to be a servant.

I understand how women can be upset over how some men rule the household, that have an attitude of listen to me woman,we do what I want, being controlling, but that is not part of the authority structure of God,and God does not give them that right to do that, but they are to love their wives as the Jesus loves the Church, and do it according to God's will.

But husbands that do not act right towards their wives are being fleshy and not spiritual.

It never ceases to amaze me why someone would be against women speaking in a Christian church, would not become a member of a church which permits it, and yet becomes a member on this Christian site which encourages women to teach.

If you don't agree with the rules of this site, why become a part of it? Seriously, WHY?

And what amazes me is that there are people who use this passage written by Paul to say that women should not speak in church.

All the while there are other areas of Scripture which show women teaching, leading and fighting for their people (think Queen Esther) and God did not condemn them for it, or say that they were usurping the authority that He had given to the men.

We can have a healthy debate as to whether Paul's words were culturally applicable or universally applicable and that's fine. But there is no need to start a provocative thread in order to get people riled up. And we should not forget that the Holy Spirit is the One who inspired Paul to write what he did.

We should also not forget that he was addressing a specific church that had no doubt written him or some one else made their specific issues known to him. The church at Corinth, in fact, had serious issues with outrageous conduct, and were "puffed up."

These denominations probably prohibit the playing of musical instruments during the worship service also.

Any restriction on women speaking out in the public assembly of the Church would pertain ONLY to the public assembly of the Church.

This site is a discussion forum; NOT A CHURCH; so the restriction would NOT apply here; whether or not one accepts it as a Scriptural teaching.

This is NOT about male Chauvanism! This is about a reasonable discussion about whether Paul's teaching on the subject are a general principle, address a local problem, or address a cultural issue.

This has nothing to do with subjugation of women or male dominance: at least it SHOULD NOT!

Since WE are the church, and this is a public forum, and we are
loosely assembled here, as we float about in cyberspace...
anchored to our LORD (just had to add that ;))
