Osteen is not a pastor - he's nothing but a glorified motivational speaker.

Absolutely! I have watched a couple of his services on TV and not once did I hear him preach the pure gospel of the Bible.

Exactly. If you played a drinking game where you take a shot every time he mentions sin - you'd go home stone sober.

Well.. In reality that's a good thing. Cause the Bible doesn't advocate playing drinking games.

You say this as if the gift of exhortation isn't in the bible.

Romans 12:6-8King James Version (KJV)

6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

People always speak against Joel Osteen, as just a "glorified motivational speaker" but maybe thats his gift. Maybe that is his calling. He is meant to exhort people into the promises of God. Every time I have ever watched Joel Osteen on TV he brings up the Word and points to the promises of God. He speaks of God's faithfulness and goodness. He praises God and shows how He takes care of His children.

Hey Ben! I totally agree with what you posted about Joel O. Good insight as usual Ben!! You think it may be that smile of his and that he is just too consistently happy and joyful for some people?

I think good ol Joel took that Bible verse to heart.... "The joy of the Lord is my strength"

There are 2 methods for leading believers .One, is to condemn them into sanctification, the other,is to inspire.
This is why some love preachers that make you squirm. As if condemnation is the only tool in the drawer.

I refuse to eat from that table.

When comes to your town on his tour try and go see him without having to pay !!!

That is one of the things I do not agree with him on because the bible says freely you have been given, freely you are to give.

I think the same is true of a great many megachurch 'pastors' and all of the 'New Age' movement.

I question where, in the Bible, we are told to seek out and call attention to false teachers.

It seems to me that the work that Jesus gave us is making disciples and teaching them sound doctrine.

If we earnestly do the work Jesus has given us; we should not have much time for such activities.

If all believers dedicated the majority of their time to evangelism and discipleship there would be far less need to consider other activities.

I just watched a video that says these false preachers are God's curse on the carnal minded and that is why people like Osteen were raised up.

Joel Olsteen's public published statement of faith is completely orthodox:

What We Believe

The Bible: We believe the entire Bible is inspired by God, without error and the authority on which we base our faith, conduct and doctrine.

The Trinity: We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to this earth as Savior of the world.

Salvation: We believe Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins. We believe that salvation is found by placing our faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross. We believe Jesus rose from the dead and is coming again.

Water Baptism: We believe water baptism is a symbol of the cleansing power of the blood of Christ and a testimony to our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Communion: We believe in the regular taking of Communion as an act of remembering what the Lord Jesus did for us on the cross.

Growing Relationship: We believe every believer should be in a growing relationship with Jesus by obeying God's Word, yielding to the Holy Spirit and by being conformed to the image of Christ.

At the end of every service at Lakewood Church, Joel Osteen shares the Gospel message and gives people an opportunity to respond to the Gospel message of Jesus Christ:

http://youtu.be/6GD9xFn2CHk

However, Joel Olsteen is a college dropout whom never attended seminary. As a result, he lacks theological competency.

But that doesn't make him a heretic, Satanist, etc... as the OP of this thread falsely asserted. Those you tube videos are riddled with fallacy and error.

Joel does need to reform his theology, set deeper roots down into the objective exclusivity the Christian worldview and epistemology requires, and come under the authority of a scholarly conservative theologian much like Timothy did with Paul; however, the vast majority of criticism I see on the Internet about Joel is pure nonsense. He's not a heretic, he's not a Satanist, he's not a reptilian alien, etc...

But he is a college dropout who never went to seminary that took over a successful ministry making it larger that needs accountability, discipleship, and reform. Unfortunately, he doesn't look to be seeking those things at this time. But again, that doesn't equate to the nonsense people are posting about him.

My pastor doesnt make me squirm but he does preach the truth and if that makes you squirm it is to your benefit. The truth shall set you free that is if you choose to believe it.

I don't agree with your seminary sentiment, but like the video you posted and also clearly showing that he isn't a heretic through his website's mission statement.

Joel Osteen teaches community-ism. He is teaching that we all work together to make a better world. This is a false gospel, a gospel that appeals to the flesh but does nothing for the souls relationship to its creator.

For the cause of Christ
