Revelation 2:12-16
12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

The Bible gives more information about he “doctrine of Balaam” than the "doctrine of the Nicolaitanes." It is clear that Balaam didn't verbally say anything against Israel because God forbade him to curse Israel, so he temped Israel, enticing them to compromise with the doctrines of false gods after they entered into the promised land. What I have recently come to find out is that the “doctrine of the Nicolaitanes” systematically removed and distorted the truth of the original writings of scripture, in order for the doctrine of Balaam to be subtly instilled into the church, labeling it as traditional Christian doctrine. The application of this doctrine is astounding and very deceptive, in that scripture is used, the same as Satan quoted to Jesus and Eve (2 of many examples), in order to instigate contradiction against God's holy word, Satan repressing complete truths that are threatening to the adversary's agenda.

It's worse than that., Nico: to conquer. Laitan:laity. Clerical/laity. One 'lording it over His heritage'.

Diotrephes lifted himself self up above the brethren.

Matt.20 Jesus told His own not to follow the world's type of exalted authority. He hates it. The 'church' loves it.

'My people perish for a lack of knowledge'.

The mind of the flesh can also distort the true spiritual meaning of scripture. When you add flesh to the Holy water it will bring forth the curse.

[SUP]"[/SUP]Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."

"And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."

"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye."

A little of that fleshy leaven can leaven the whole lump. :)

This is related to the word "nic" and in relation to one who is identified with "colaus," a German word that we write and say as "claus." In Asia minor Nimrod is known by the term "santa" and as I understand, his birthday is celebrated on December the 25th.

I was surprised to see how much the false teachings of the Nicolaitans have infiltrated the church and are still taught today, even though we know God hates it.

From what I have studied in the word of God, and what I have seen and experienced, the “doctrine of the Nicolaitanes” continues to flourish, and expand in religion to this very day.

This is a quote by John Macarthur
Pergamos obviously was a church made up of Gentiles primarily who had been converted out of paganism. They had, no doubt, been converted to Christ and there was some great transformation but times have changed and they have now gone back and picked up some of their pagan habits. They have married the world, as it were, and are in danger of the judgment of the Lord of the church. Disaster is looming on the horizon.”

I truly believe that it is important for all of us in CC to comprehend that humans evolve, progress, and grow in what we are taught by experience, and what others say to us. Our adversary's tactics take advantage of this wherever and whenever the avenue has been opened. In every scenario, the true church vulnerable because we are human, let alone a false religion. On the other hand, God's Word doesn't have to evolve because it is unchanging from the beginning of time and for all eternity.

where are you guy getting anything definitive on this?

what i've heard in many sermons is that who 'the nicolatians' refers to is pretty much completely unknown, maybe someone named Nico or Nicolai or something, whose following didn't leave enough of an historical mark for us to know anything more . . and that there is all kinds of speculation -- but it's just that, speculation. maybe you're reading some heresy and then some rightful condemnation of that heresy, but who knows if it's just a strawman? is there any actual evidence you guys are finding about who or what the 'nicolatians' were?

what would it be like if the story of Balaam wasn't in the scriptures we have?
how many wild stories and theories would be going around about what "the error of Balaam" is, hmm? like, any pet doctrine you didn't like, you could call 'error of Balaam' couldn't you? and pass it off because there's no evidence? that's what i'm worried is going on here.
how would you know which one was true, if we didn't have the book of Numbers?

so if you have any definitive historical evidence for who these people were, please share!

What I know from Biblical history about the "house of Ephraim" and the continuing practices of paganism, (identified as the "doctrine of Balaam") is confirmed by world history and the practices of certain man made celebrations, along with the negations of Biblical celebrations by many denominations in the religious realm. It's quite a simple deduction of facts obtained from Biblical history, put together with confirmed world history, bringing us to the recognition of current traditions practiced by religious denominations.

I started researching the Nicolaitans a few days ago and discovered that there is a lot of mere speculation floating around out there on the internet about who the Nicolaitans might have been, which doesn’t interest me at all. As I post comments on this thread my comments come mostly from historical and ecclesiastical historic sources, such as The History of the Christian Church, Volume II: Ante-Nicene Christianity, A.D. 100-325. The information can be found but it is harder to find than exposés written by some know-it-all self –proclaimed “Bible teacher” who has concocted an earthshaking essay based on assumptions of other people’s assumptions, based on assumptions of other people’s assumptions, based on assumptions of other people’s assumptions, and on and on they go.

Regarding the doctrine of Balaam, it is identical to the doctrine of the Nicolaitans. I am reading about that right now, in fact, and will post my findings if you like.

ok, but what connects all that to "the Nicolatians" ?

how do i know any of that is the doctrine of the Nicolatians, and not the prosperity gospel? or idolization of charismatic gifts? or non-divinity of Christ? or humanistic ascendancy to divinity? or will-worship? or legalistic Judaizing? or agnosticism? or some odd gnosticism? or any of 1000 other errors?

how do you know one particular false teaching is 'doctrine of the Nicolatians' ?

I often speak the Word in a mystery, the Holy Water=the Living waters, the flesh=red dust, or dirt added, or doctrines of carnally minded men. :)

Numbers 5:17
And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:

The NT Church is based on the NT Scriptures, not on anything else.

The NT Scriptures cannot be unseated by the false doctrine of the heretical JW cult.

The wife of a jealous husband that thinks she has committed an adulterous act. If she consumes it and her reproductive organs stay in tact, she is innocent. If she shrivels up and no longer can conceive, she is guilty. The woman represents the church either conforming to the "doctrine of the Nicholaitanes," or rejecting the paganism which that doctrine administers by continuing to adhere to the word of God. The church cannot conceive people to be truly "born again" if they have compromised with pagan practices. There are many false conversions in religion these days, and this is the reason. I ignore Elin because all she does is bloviate.

It obviously is connected with the doctrine of Balaam as both were and are in the same church representation of Pergamos. We know the doctrine of Balaam in more detail, so there is a correlation between the two. The Bible also tells us what God hates, and that He desires His children to stay away from. It is proven by historical facts, and by current events we can see in religion. The doctrine is to elevate certain scriptures above others, and use scripture to contradict other scriptures. I think I said this previously in a post. We can see this being done in today's religions and doctrines. We can quote Jesus over and over saying that "man shall live by EVERY word of God," and that scripture is bypassed over and over in order to create an imbalance in God's Word.

I wrote a thread about it awhile back, the same sign is shown over and over again in scripture about the "curse". It's pretty cool if one is able to hear what the Spirit is saying in it. Here's the thread if anyone is interested in reading it.
