The day begins. Any given day. A family of five starts out on a drive across town. The crash is sudden. Metal, plastic and flesh are torn apart. Three are dead and tow are severely injured. But the drunk driver in the speeding truck that hit them is merely bruised. Why?

A terrible dictator gets control of an entire nation, and millions suffer his abuses. Why?

The doctor says, I have some bad news," and then he sadly explains that your have cancer. Why?

Every day stories like these unfold. Sometimes we merely hear about them secondhand or on the nightly news, and other times the story is our own. Once we steady ourselves from the shock, we can't help but ask the most natural question in the world: If God is all-powerful and all-good, why do we suffer at all? It's hard to imagine a bigger or more important question. And the fact is, we all ask it sooner or later.

It turns out there aren't too many possible answers to choose from. Think about it. Either God is willing to prevent bad things from happening and can't, in which case He is not all-powerful. Or God is able to prevent bad things from happening but He's unwilling, in which case He is not good. Or, there's a third option: God is both able and willing, but God is love, in which there is a line that even Almighty God will not cross, and that line is our free will.

The Bible teaches the third position, and it is hard to imagine a better or more comforting answer. In short form, the human story, as told in the Bible, goes like this:

1. "God is love" (1 John 4:16). This is the basic, fundamental truth about who God is.
2. Therefore, "God created man in His own image" (Genesis 1:27). That is, God made humans with the capacity to love like God loves---by the exercise of free will.

3. And having been made with free will and therefore with the capacity of love, mankind has "sinned and fallen" from the glorious moral position of his original creation (Roman 3:23).
4. But there is good news: God is working our an incredible rescue plan by which any and all human beings who so desire will be "saved by grace...through faith" (Ephesians 2:8)--not by imposed power of force, but by the drawing, transforming of power of God's love. Love is the only way God can destroy evil and suffering while at the same time preserving our free will and with it our ability to love.

Is It Fair?

So the short answer to why we suffer is that we and other human beings--in the past an in the present--have chosen evil, and suffering is the result. It's not fair. It's not even reasonable. Sin is, by definition, unfair, unjust, hurtful and wrong. It's downright brutal. But one thing it is not: it is not God's will. God does not want us to suffer. But neither does He want to make us slaves or robots. To be human is to be free, and to be free means we can either choose good or evil with their respective effects.

The plain truth of the matter is that love cannot exist without free will, and free will by its very nature allows for bad choices to be made. So when we say that if God were good He would not allow anyone to ever do anything to cause pain to ones self or to anyone else, we simply aren't not making logical sense. The opposite is actually the case precisely because God is good, He must allow us to make choices, both good and bad, and experience their outcomes. God always and only wants us to choose good, but He will not force us. God never wills evil or the pain that attends it. We do. Suffering is the by-product of human choices, not God's And that is the sober reality of freedom.

And yet, God is so good that He cannot remain isolated or insulated from our suffering. According to the Bible, He is "touched with the feelings or our infirmities" (Hebrews 4:15). Speaking of God's relation to human pain, the prophet Isaiah said, "In all their affliction He was afflicted" (Isaiah 63:9). So deeply loved by God is each member of the human race that Jesus basically said that anything we do for or against one another, it is as if we did those deeds to Him (Matthew 25:41-45). All suffering touches God. He is aware of all the tears we cry and the sorrow, grief or anguish behind them. King David sang of God's deep sympathy: "You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle. You have recorded each on in your book" (Psalm 56:8). Love is like that. It suffers with those who suffer.

Nothing Too Big for God to Bear

But here's where the story gets even more amazing still. Not only does God feel our pain in His heart from a distance, He literally plunged down into our pain to make a way of ultimate escape from it. Jesus Christ came to, "..taste death for everyone." (Hebrews 2:9). "He has born or griefs and carried our sorrows..He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities...and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:4-6). The greatest evidence of God's love in the face of our pain is that He shares it. He has not left us to suffer alone. What makes the God of the Bible to totally incredible is that He came into our world and voluntarily experienced our suffering.

Whatever comes your way, there are two unchangeable truth you can be sure of: first, God is love and he loves you personally. And second, God will ultimately make all wrongs right and heal the wounds this world has given you. When Jesus suffered and died on the cross, He proved that God loves fallen, suffering humanity more than His own life and He ensured that all who put their faith in Him will have a glorious future completely free from all suffering. The promise of the Bible, made sure by the death of Christ on the cross, is for you:

"God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away"

Or maybe, just maybe it falls under the statement by Solomon.....Time and chance happen unto ALL.........Just because a dictator kills millions or a nice old lady dies of cancer does not mean that God is not in control and or aware of everything....this world is fallen, sucks and is going to go the way of the dodo....Everything will be accounted for in the day of judgment......and all questions/answers will be known and understood!

We live in a fallen world. Time and again our hearts are broken.
God's love is the answer regardless of what the question is.

No it doesn't. You teach that, and play cut-and-paste to prove it. In your mind, Man trumps God's will. Bologna!

There was one other answer that you don't like. The truth. God is working all things to his glory and will. Romans 8:18-39

Stop teaching. You're not as good at writing as you think you are, and you don't know the subject to teach it.

If your had really read the whole article, your would clearly see the love of God. Lets start from the beginning.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:29.

And God said, Behold, I have given your every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1: 29, 31.

And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. Genesis 2:9, 16,17, 21, 22, 25.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made,. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die;
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods, knowing food and evil.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her: and he did eat.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him. Where art thou?
And he said, I heard they voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life;
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast harkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.
Therefor the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:1-17, 19-24.

If your notice the tree that God placed in the midst of the garden was a tree of good and evil but was also given to Adam and Eve to make a choice to partake of it or not because God did say to Adam that He may take of any tree in the garden but of the tree of knowledge of God and evil He and His wife may not take of it or they shall surely die. This was absolutely free choice.

You have the plan of salvation in verse 15 of chapter 3 of Jesus who is the one that will step in man place that will become sin for humanity and redeem mankind. You also have the first animal sacrifice made on their behalf of coats of animal skin which is the anti-type leading to the True Sacrifice which is Jesus.
You have the enemy of souls who was cursed as well as Adam and Eve. God could have destroyed Lucifer, Adam and Eve.
But as you can see, the Love of God allowed freedom of choice and is allowing love and sin to play out its true intents of the heart.

Does it show that man's will trumps God's will but that God is a loving and merciful God who loves us so much that He had given us choice to do as we see fit because He has already warned us of the consequences of wagering with sin? But the gift in verse 13 of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD.

Is God a weak vacillating God? No..a God of infinite wisdom and love that allows us to make our own choices and reap the consequences of our choices in which we won't be able to blame Him for our choices if we are in the end destroyed. He says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is LORD and a just and loving God.

God says to us in Deuteronomy 30:19, I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and thy seed may live.

You see this grace and mercy of God play out through and through His love letters in the Bible for us.

Love simply put is freedom of choice to choose blessings or cursing from One who gave that we might live.

A plagiarist to boot? Ack! Time to report.

(I'm a writer. I hate it when people steal my stuff without asking first. And, yes, I go after those that do, too.)

He doesn't cite because four places have it on their sites.

It's hard to imagine a bigger or more important question. And the fact is, we all ask it sooner or later.

I'm going to give my answer based on example #3, about a doctor who gave bad news, telling me I had cancer. This is from my own battle with cancer, and how my gynecologist handled it. I was at home, and the phone rang, and it was my doctor. He said "I have some bad news for you." He did not say for me to please come to his office so we could speak in person. NO, his way of telling me I had cancer was in a short, five-minute phone call. Cold and impersonal. His exact words were, "we found cancer in your biopsy results." Then he said goodbye, and hung up, leaving me in total shock still holding the phone in my hand. I was waiting for my mom because we were going shopping, so I dried my tears and tried to keep it together in front of her, because I had no clue how the heck I was going to tell my family I had cancer. That isn't something that I could just blurt out. The tears returned when she arrived and I got into the car and she asked me how I was. I broke down and told her, and she was in shock because she kept saying, "are you kidding me? Are you sure?" Anyhoo, we got to the grocery store, and I asked her not to say anything to my dad or sisters and brother. Pop drove me back home after I got groceries, and before he left, I started crying and he asked what's wrong, and I told him I had cancer. He hugged me and told me not to worry, then he pointed to a picture of Jesus that I have on my fridge door. He said, "Do you believe in Jesus?" I said, "Yes, of course," and then Pop said "Then trust him to get you through this."

I'm crying as I write this..lol.. Anyway, after I had some time to process the fact that I had cancer, I started asking questions like "why me" and "what did I do to deserve this" and "why do I have cancer, and yet my oldest sister who smokes like a chimney, doesn't." Did I feel like I was being punished? Yes at first, I did. Then it dawned on me like a "stupid slap" from God, that we ALL face trials and hardships, yet we always think that it happens to "someone else" and not me. I asked God why I had cancer, and the answer came loud and clear. "Why not you? You aren't exempt from disease. We all have a cross to bear, and yours is cancer."

Bad things don't happen to us because we are evil or because we "deserve it." They happen because we live in a fallen, sinful world. They happen because out of the midst of the worst tragedy, God can still make something beautiful out of it. :)

As to the statement of whether God can prevent bad things from happening, OF COURSE HE CAN. Sometimes though, for reasons known only to him, he allows them to happen. So when bad things happen to you, don't blame God. He has a reason why he allows bad things to befall us. Don't say "why me, Lord? Why did you give me this disease?" Say instead, "I don't understand why you gave me this Lord, but try me!" Like it or not, we all need to accept whatever trials God gives us, whether it's good, bad, or ugly.

*goes and wipes tears* :)

Yeah, we are supposed to cite our sources if they're not our own. For example, *article taken from webmd.com* :)

The ownership of the article is GLOW Tracks (owned by the SDA) and their site does not attribute authorship. The best I can tell the article is not copyrighted thus although the OP should have given credit to GLOW, it does not appear that a copyright was infringed. Actually, although it is not overtly stated, it would appear that they welcome it being copied since it is on numerous SDA Facebook pages (although properly footnoted with a link back to GLOW).

He is there when you accept him in your life to deal with your problem. Until you do? then your life will continue to go down hill. Without God in your life, and i mean believing everything and accepting him in your life. then we have nothing, and we won't get the help God is there waiting for you to trust in him.

Romans 8: 11. says: And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

So think about it, if the same spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, just imagine what that same spirit can do to any problems you face each day? When we face problems, we tend to allow it consume us, then the problem gets bigger than what it seems. We need to believe in God more and learn to turn to him in trust that he will bring us out of the problems. God is there, waiting for your reached out hands to be grabbed by God, the problem is today, is that we tend to hinder our hands reaching out, and that' where the enemy comes in to make our problems more bigger than what it is.

And, no, we still really can't steal a whole article from someone without asking permission.

I know this because I am a writer and have had people steal from me. I wrote about it and added it to the Misc forum.

I don't see why everyone has such a big problem with the post

OK, she should have stated her sources. I don't know how often I see people post other peoples poems, quotes and photos on FB and similar without peeping a word about the ones who created them.

.... but why is everyone against the message she has? Do you guys think evil happens in the world because God wants it to happen?

Yes, I think we all have ponder on this at one time or another. Point is before our circumstance to even ask the question why GOD? GOD had a plan! Nothing and no one interrupts HIS Plan. So whatever happens GOD knows the outcome. meaning yes accidents, death and severe issues occur but GOD is a Healer! GOD Resurrects! GOD gets the Glory! What we must do is accept what has occurred and seek GOD for Comfort and understanding.

Is you know you have Bandaids your not so concerned when one in your household gets cut. Why? Because you have a solution to the problem, therefore yes your concerned for the individual your just not so out of sorts concerning the issue. This is how I view things. GOD is outside of time so therefore timing is not an issue to HIM. We our in time so time plays a major part in our life. Most time we want Healing, Deliverance, etc done now or very quick. With GOD HE wants us to know it is all in HIS Hands and control. We just need to seek HIM.

Some go throough difficult times to humble themselves before the LORD, to give GOD Glory, and because of sin. The flesh wants what it wants but only GOD gets what HE so desires, again it is HIS Plan. No one wants to see anyone suffer but no one has suffered more than GOD! Therefore we must continue to uphold Truth and do our very best to walk this walk with GOD no matter how difficult it gets. This is not the end GOD has something more than Great lying ahead for us. No complaints just Glorify GOD!

Blessings!!!!!!!

Bless you wwjd_kilden,

Wow you actually get it!!!..it really isn't about the source but about the message. Praise God. I was waiting for someone to actually get it....How often do people post Bible scriptures all the time, even those who disagree with the fact that I have no posted nor will I post the sources but yet they quote scripture but don't give what Bible they quoted from and the author of that Bible or permission from the author to quote that scripture...its about the message and does it agree or disagree with God's Word.

And Jesus said unto Him, Forbid Him not, for he that is not against us is for us. Luke 9:50
