See, the literal definition of Christianity is, etymologically, "Christ-follower", in which case I have no problem calling myself "Christian". But Christianity is also a religion built around specific doctrines, doctrines I do not subscribe to.

So etymologically, I follow Yeshua, therefore I am a Christian. But strictly speaking, I do not follow the religion of Christianity. It has nothing to do with association with the church :) It has everything to do with belief.
Why not just say "Messianic Jew?" So much more simpler...

Sharing the Gospel is important but you also need to protect yourself from false doctrine. I'm sure you don't want to share or believe in the wrong thing, right?
Why? False doctrine is false whether you believe it or not....

Believing in it one way or another is not going to change it - and it is not go to change you.

You need to. On Earth, we have two tasks: 1) spread the Gospel and 2) make disciples of Jesus. If you do not have the right info, if you do not discern properly, if you accept all doctrine - false and true - without comparing it to God's Word for veracity, then you may inadvertently share false doctrine with others in your duty to make disciples of Jesus. The whole point of #2 is to prepare others to go forth and share the Gospel with others. They too will need to make disciples of Jesus so that those people will go forth and share the Gospel and so forth and so forth. If you have the wrong info and give the wrong info, then that can be dangerous. Look at new Christians - those who are grounded in the faith after belief are able to go forth and share the Gospel. Those who are not, run into problems later on in life. I wouldn't want to see someone stick their head down a deep dark hole that I know is a bad place to be. That is why it is important to know what is false doctrine and what is not. That is why you need to pick apart different topics and keep asking questions and continue to learn - it's not just for personal growth.

Because it is partially inaccurate :) There are three types of Messianic Jews: Jews who believe that a messiah will come some day (which should be all of them), Jews who convert to Christianity, and Jews who believe Yeshua is the messiah but still follow Judaism.

Ideally, only the first and last types should exist, as Jews who convert to Christianity are kinda...not Jews anymore. But they still call themselves Messianic, so what the hey. It doesn't matter to me. All three follow G-d so I could care less what they call themselves.

Anyway, "Jew" is perfectly accurate for me, and I find it very simple. And anyway, why do you care? :p

Fine then. I don't care. I suppose that's the type of response you like hearing from people then?
Not at all. I just think there are a lot more important things to be arguing about than specification of labels :)
