It's no secret that Catholics and Protestants are at odds over what it actually means to be in a right relationship with God and Jesus and what is actually required in order to get into Heaven. So in the spirit of ecumenicism (in the general sense), I'd like both Catholics and Protestants to chime in with ONE thing that they believe both groups agree on. After you type your remark you may OPTIONALLY put a (C) after it if you're Catholic, (P) if you're Protestant or (O) if Other. PLEASE be polite and do NOT list any differences! There are many ongoing threads that discuss differences.

I'll go first.

Catholics and Protestants both believe that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God. (P)

Will we try to get an ecumenical understanding between humanists and Christians next?

Both believe that the top down power authority structure, patterned after the world, is NT sanctioned.

Catholics have always had a very high Christology which you mentioned. And that is good!

It is the soteriology that is the problem! Sorry!

Both take humans and believe we must serve a higher calling thru Jesus Christ and.....[I can't finish you said no differences] mentioned. Ok fine, Jesus Christ and Mary for one and Jesus Christ and Him crucified for the other. At least one side didn't argue with itself.

There is nothing wrong with the Catholics.... that a good protestant word of God teaching won't cure.

Sorry guys but after seeing the news about the popes visit tonight I've had enough.

Pope said.
God told him abortion it ok.
It's ok for gay couples to adopt.

I guess it's ok for the pope to change God's word after all he is the pope. If this doesn't rattle your cage then you need to consider what spirit your under.
I do not write this out as a attack but out of concern. I have no disrespect for the pope, in fact I have no respect for him at all.

I pray that the Lord open your eyes to the truth...sincerely.....It's not a time to be ignorant....I thought this pope would be different but sadly he's not.

The only common ground I find between Catholics and protestants is the need for Jesus.

It doesn't rattle my cage because I don't give two licks what the Pope's personal opinion is on anything. As someone who is not a catholic he is just an over-celebrated mascot to me.

What group of churches do you call this?

* Never were part of the universal church.. didn't associate with it
* Were around before Roman Catholicism got off the ground
* Did not need to reform.. so were not Protestants in the sense of the Reformation. They did protest with the Reformers but did not need to change their churches to go back to the bible, because they were biblical right from wo to go.
*Were independent churches.. no mother church.. no denominational names.
* Baptised by full immersion in water of believers only
* Believed the Word of God completely
* Believed in one triune God
* Believed in salvation by grace thru faith in Jesus
* No baptism of infants.. no 'pedobaptism'

These aren't protestants or catholics! Only protestants in the sense of protesting against the Catholic church. Not reformers.

What Catholics and Protestants Have in Common
Both say that the other is wrong, when in actual fact neither have ALL the truth, and instead of learning from each other, each side simply pulls down the shutters and slang each other with sectarian and bigoted accusations!

Paul says this kind of behaviour is carnal amd spiritually immature and that no spiritual maturing will occur until the individual believer gets ride of such an bad attitude! 1Cor 3v1-8

Hardly sufficient since even the demons believe this and more.

The separator is always the sufficiency of the blood of Jesus Christ to atone for our sin completely and eternally. By grace received through faith and faith received through the hearing of the word of God. Faith that is alive through the presence of the Holy Spirit as He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment.

For the cause of Christ

Baptists? Which sounds like a denominational name to me. (And, yes. I do get it. I'm Presbyterian. It's possible to be either and not believe in God at all, however, it does so happen that many within either denomination are also called another word -- Christian! Believer! But isn't it still a denominational name, even if the name spreads into denominations we disagree with? To me denomination isn't a sin. It's a word that describes a group.)

Celebrating December 25th as Christ's birthday when that date is actually the birthday of Nimrod who became known as Baal.
And celebrating Easter with bunnies and eggs instead of Passover.
Believing Jesus died on Friday and rose Sunday.
That's just a a start. "O"
