absolutely. Fetishes are a misuse of sex - they are the lesser good use of God's creation of sex.

If it comes between you and God then it is a sin.

The word Fetishism means: "The attribution of religious or mystical qualities to inanimate objects."

Sexual Fetishism means: "Sexual attraction to objects or body parts not conventionally viewed as being sexual in nature."

I would say that it is either idolatry or sexual sin.

I can agree with that. Out of interest (and I'm especially interested in the Catholic view), what kind of sexual practice can a husband and wife legitmately engage in? Human beings have a habit of getting turned on by some pretty weird things, but where is the line drawn?

Are you asking about sexual fetishes? I don't think so, necessarily. Traditionally, we think of sexual fetishes as including only odd sexual fetishes, but I think a proper definition would include the very specific preferences of your average person. Obviously this is difficult to discuss politely, but how often do you hear that a guy is a "______ man," fill in your favorite body part? Merely having a sexual fetish, even if it's a strange one, isn't a sin. It just means that you have a very peculiar "button." If a guy likes feet, he likes feet. Oh well.

However, pressing the button in the wrong situations, too often, without consent, without regard for the sanctity of the sexual act, is a sin, but it's not because the button is weird. Now, because the peculiar attraction of the fetishist might not be socially appropriate, they might end up doing wrong more often than a person who can satisfy their desires in a healthy relationship.

My definition of a fetish is an object of blind devotion. Different definitions, different answers.

Heh, whenever you Americans talk about 'pedophilia' I always think you're talking about someone who loves feet.

There's also a fetish where a person consistently talks about and posts about sexual matters. Just kidding dude. But I'm partly serious.

The Catholic church has a tradition of not handling sex very well. Nowadays they have had to face their teachings in a new way and have done a decent job. Sex is no longer just for procreation purposes - it is a celebration of unity between man and wife and God.

All things are admissible between a man and his wife as long as it is consensual.
