Look down the list of posts and notice this pattern. It's all about who you're better than. Some are better than legalists. Some are better than the law is dead. Some are better than Pharisees. Some are better than Calvinists. Some are better than churches or pastors. Some are better than adulterers. Some are better than those who ignore others. Some are better than those who don't ignore. Some are better than evangelicals. Some are better than cessationists. Some are better than tongue talkers. Some are better than monoglots. Some are better than OSAS. Almost everyone is better at hearing from God.

So, how about we just come out and say it, who are you better than?

I am no better and I am no worse. I have my own personal shortcomings and failures.

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

How interesting, that very passage begins with this:

Philippians 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
Philippians 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

In a lot of cases it seems that what is lacking is the likemindedness. Some put more stock in the word of God and some less. To me personally, His word is the final word above all else. That doesn't make me better than anyone it actually reveals that it took a big smack in the back of the head to realize that God's word is true and He is the same yesterday today and forever.

Knowing how short I've come in my own life, I'm always reminded of this fact. Even when I'm speaking with someone who doesn't agree with me scripturally I can say that they aren't nearly as bad as I was when I wanted nothing to do with any of it at all. Sometimes frustration does play a part because in some cases, a person has actually "been there," and knows what they're talking about, that will cause a person to be more diligent in the message he or she is sharing. The strife seems to be more on the part of the one that doesn't want to look deeper into the matter in the written word, and sometimes it's just personal feelings I guess.

God's word always holds the answer. That's a truth I'll always stand on, but it in no way makes me better than anyone.

No one.

When I stand in front of God. I will be no more worthy of eternal life than any other person who ever lived.

I will deserve hell. But Thanks to the work of Jesus, I will be saved from that wrath

How about the dead in paradise with Jesus right now?

And, oh! You're better at painting? If I clean your house will you paint mine? (Loaded question. 100 years of wallpaper on my walls, so you "better" be ready to scrap before painting. lol) But I am better at cleaning than painting. :)

I don't know that I am better now. Often, I feel just as bad and even seemingly worse, because I have a new standard that I fairly consistently fail to live up to in Jesus. Since He commanded us to love others as we love ourselves, it becomes glaringly obvious that we are not very good at the latter which would explain why we fail so miserably at the former. Only love of God can overcome that dilemma...

Let's just say I believe differently on the first part than you do.

You get the wall paper scrapped off and I will paint as I love the transformation that takes place....plus I didn't say I was better at scrapping.....just painting....although I did scrape the popcorn off of my ceilings that was about an 18 month job as I would only do the work in the winter when the air was not running to pull dust throughout the whole house..... That was one of the hardest remodel jobs I ever took on I did it when I was 48.... Knowing what I know now about it I would not take it on at 60....lol

But I am considering redoing my living room which is the peacock room right now with lime green, turquoise and purple.... Thinking of going an orange color with greens and red or blue.... not a concrete plan at the moment just beginning thoughts.

Knowing what I know now, either I'll wait until I'm 120 to scrap off the paper, or I'll wait until my novel becomes the next Harry Potter, and have someone else do it. (I'm fairly certain waiting until I'm 120 is the more-likely plan. lol)

Lynn,
this is a post that reflects base, human-nature, and you have done a very good job of giving us a
picture that all of us can learn of about our own fragile, human nature.......

the problems and the solution was very well concisely stated by Luke in the scripture,
LUKE 22:24.
And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

LUKE 22:25.
And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them;
and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

26.
But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger;
and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27.
For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat?
(but I am among you as He that serveth.)

Paul has some very good council concerning these human-frailties,
11COR.10;12.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves:
but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

11COR.10:12.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that
commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing
themselves among themselves, are not wise.

11COR10:12.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves:
but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

the repetition of the scripture is intentional....it is a literary device used in scripture to
DRIVE-A-POINT-HOME....

1TIM.6:4.
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh
envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,....

the Lord's scriptures describes behaviours to a TEE - the speech patterns that we are reading are
chocked-full-of - envy-strifes-railings-and evil surmisings, not to mention dis-respect -

the questions we should ask ourselves is, 'WHERE IS OUR SPIRITUAL-CHRIST-LIKE-BEHAVIOUR'???

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

I would've been in the ark with Noah and his family, I would've climb up or snuck in with some animals.

I certainly would've left Sodom and Gomorrah long before Lot every came to town.

But, I am afraid, I would have been like Peter in denying Jesus. At that time, yes. But after I saw Jesus raised and understood and felt His love and forgiveness, I would have stood right up with the apostles and declared His name on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem. Acts 2.

I would've been with David's men in wanting David to kill Saul. Yep. I would have urged David to kill him. Sorry.

I would've prayed like Daniel. But probably gone into secret prayer after the kings edict to not pray to any god.

But now, I try to live for the Lord. In so doing, I see Him, and I know He's the standard. It's not me. If it is, than I am better than most! But that's a low standard, folks.

He that is the least in the kingdom in greatest, and he that is greatest is the least.
