I just saw on the news an interview with a womans sister that was killed by a drunk driver last weekend and during her interview she said something that was just so awesome i felt i needed to share it.

Here is the story as it played on tv. A drunk driver who was driving on a suspended license and had been convicted several times of DWI got on the highway going the wrong direction and crashed head on into another vehicle. The drunk driver lived. The other car contained a woman in her 30's, her boyfriend in his 30's, her 9 year old son, and her 11 year old daughter. The daughter is the only one who lived. The woman in the car was bringing the family up to go to her grandmothers funeral.

The sister of the woman who was killed said in the interview that she is splitting custody with the father of the young girl so she can look after her. and when asked what she felt about the drunk man and what should happen to him she replied by saying...I forgive him because that is what i have to do to get to heaven.

Sorry that may not seem like much for some people but that statement blew me away! Most people we come across would have said something along the lines of sending him to jail forever,or hoping that he would've died, or lashed out in some way toward him.
I am saddened by the loss of life in this tragedy but it is encouraging to see believers giving themself wholly and completely to the lord and seeking him to hold us up in the light even when we are surrounded by darkness.

Wow.. This gave me goosebumps. What a sad story.. It had to be so hard for that little girl too. I hope this opened up that drunk driver's eyes too, especially from what the sister said. Maybe it will be enough for him to come to know the Lord after all that happened. Ugh.. I think we all need to pray for them all and their families.

We are no position to forgive that which God will not forgive. God requires repentance. Jesus told the disciples that if a person sins against us repents to forgive them.

The kind of idea expressed in the story leaves the impression that there is no accountability.

Romans 12: 17-21
17 recompense to no man evil for evil. But be diligent to do good things before the presence of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peacably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather restrain your wrath; for it is written, vengeance is mine; I will execute justice for you, said the lord. 20 Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing, you shall heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I think by forgiving this man for the evil he has done and not lashing out against him these people have done just as the verses above say to do.
