I have learned that we must not ignore some scriptures to make sense of others. For instance when the book of Hebrews tells us that Christ perfected once and for all those who believe on Him, we must not ignore this verse when we start reading commandments from Christ to love one another.

You really can't play games like that. The word "repent" means "to change your mind". And that is what Jesus asked us to do.... change our minds from the age-old way of believing WE are the ones who effect our Salvation by keeping laws perfectly (or making animal sacrifices when we failed), to instead, trusting in the words He said... that our Salvation was purchased by Him........ with no input from our own actions.

You seem to be clinging to the misunderstanding that to "repent" means to attempt to convince God, through demonstrations of sorrowful remorse, that we are worthy of Salvation.

That is not what repentance that we do means in the NT, as Lord Jesus Himself tied it to sin as He clearly said unless we repent we would perish.

It is a change of mind, but it is to change our mind about the sinful nature in which we walked in that made us enmity to God. Through repentance to give us remission of sins we being baptized in Christ we are reconciled to God.

Which is why we are told we die to self (old sinful nature) and arise a new in the spirit ( walk by the Spirit), which will strengthen us and lead us away from sins.

The main fallacy with that is that most Jews were likely WAY more careful about trying not to sin than most of us are. It was their very way of life... to attempt to be righteous and commit no sins.

So Jesus was not telling them to act better. He was telling them to give up that idea of "striving to be perfect" in order to be accepted by God. But to, instead, do what God actually said His will was.... to believe on the one He sent to us, His Son.

And that "believing" means to trust that He was telling the truth when He said He was the one who was bringing us Salvation by destroying the power of sin over us.

I guess that is why our Lord Jesus kept telling others go and sin no more, and to walk in love for Him, others, and including enemies.

The incident I was referring to also Jesus told the man do you believe these are worse sinners then him, and then showed him that didn't matter unless he repented of his sins he also would perish. (Luke 13)

Jesus even also said produce fruit met with repentance (Matthew 3:8), meaning that the way should be a clear showing of turning away from sin. Lord Jesus teachings did have a moral standing to be upheld in the faith in Him !!!

Brother Willie, this is so true. In this day and age of fruit inspectors and what we believe true fruit is..................We would call the pharisees saints. We could follow them around with our I-phones for a year and not indict them with our view of "fruits" today. And they were the worst of the worst according to Christ.

Nothing new under the sun. And we are so obsessed with sin and immorality as Christians, the moral, nice guy who has fallen for the(satans) "ace trump" of religion and morality is in the most dangerous spot.

AND you are correct on believing brother! Biblical belief is ......................trust.

Today, the legalist has believing meaning..............law,morality,sinning less, love, turning from sin, obeying "most" of ALL commandments and the list will and can grow.

What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit abiding in us ???

Also what I stated that Willie-T called fallacy came directly from the Word of God and Lord Jesus Himself to be exact, so then to agree would be saying that you believe Jesus taught falsely ??? Is this what you believe ???

Because Lord Jesus only taught truth and He is the one that said go sin no more, and laid the path in moral standings we are commanded to follow !!!

The more I study the NT the more WARNINGS I see,

but all the while … most pastors are preaching GRACE!
Most of the NT was written to born-again Christians in the churches,
so many warnings were written to YOU (if indeed you are born-again).
However, most believers today are blind to them (for several reasons).
Dozens of verses WARN: If you choose to keep on sinning without
serious confession and repentance (sincere regret and desire to change),
you will fall from grace and forfeit your salvation!

• “… let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous,
just as He is righteous.” (1 John 3:7)

• “… everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” (1 John 2:29)

• “… whoever (reverentially) fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him”
(Acts 10:35)

• “… you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether (slaves) of sin leading to death,
OR (slaves) of obedience leading to righteousness … so now present your members as slaves
of righteousness for holiness … the wages of sin is (eternal) death” (Romans 6:16, 19, 23)

“For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death
the (sinful) deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by God’s Spirit,
these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:13-14)

Jesus warned: And these (the unrighteous) will go away into everlasting punishment,
but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:46)

To not obey is to not believe” is taught in Hebrews 3:18-19 …
which links back to the applicable examples of: sinning (3:17), rebelling (3:16),
hardening of the heart (3:15), and not remaining faithful (3:14).

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved,
he will receive the crown of (eternal) life … But each one is tempted when he is drawn
away by his own desires … Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin when it is full-grown brings forth (eternal) death.” (James 1:12-16)

“Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of (eternal) life.” (Revelation 2:10)

Everyone who is cowardly (fearful), unbelieving (includes unfaithful), abominable,
murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in
the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

• “… reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men” (2 Peter 3:7)
Yes, everyone who is ungodly will be thrown into the lake of fire!

Jesus is coming back for:
“… a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing …
holy and without blemish.(Ephesians 5:27)
“… holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God” (Hebrews 12:14)

To continue your progressive sanctification unto holiness,
it is critical to regularly confess and repent of your sins …
IF we walk in the light … the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin
IF we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us (of) our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:7-9)
I will probably get shot down for this but the New Testament is directed at Christians. All the letters are written to the Churches so what they contain must be for Christians. Very few unsaved people read the Bible. According to Paul its foolishness to them.

You have this so wrong, God "repented" 28 times in the Bible. (Go look it up. It's right there.) Care to explain how He was sinning?

Hi Willie-T, it's been a while!

I think the word (
נָחַם) has the meaning "to relent" rather than repent. Just saw this, haven't read it in context, just jumping in!

I was struck by the phrase "Faith in Jesus"

I have faith in Jesus because I wear a cross. I have faith in Jesus because I go to communion, breaking of bread, mass. I have faith in Jesus because I read my bible and say my prayers. I have faith in Jesus because He knows me. I have faith in Jesus because my deep calls to his deep. I have faith in Jesus because I go on pilgramages, do the utmost in christian thought, word and deed.

I have faith in Jesus because I a sinner know I fail at Gods judgement seat and have no clue how to be righteous. Every thought, every action, every deed fails, in a way I do not understand, but it fails. I am desolate, and only His love through that cross saves me, every day of my life. If Jesus can give me any clue how to take a right approach, how to deal with others, how to pray, how to care, how to be a blessing, I will take it. What guides me in the peace He puts in my heart.

Can people fall away? I do not know. Who is saved and who is not? I do not know. All I know is I need Jesus all the time. I want to be a blessing and not a hinderance, a source of uplifting and not bringing down.

Life and emotions are hard, and each day we face many things we wish we did not have to deal with. But Jesus loves us, so we can face the day, eternity is secure, so we can walk with heads held high, that we are worthy, accepted, called righteous, a vessel of His love. I wish I could bring the peace and joy He brings to me to everyones heart, and I desire to learn how, because for me there is no other key to unlock eternity for anyone.

Is this what people mean by "Faith in Jesus"?

Nice attack on a wonderful woman of God. Your post has been reported.
Okay, so what about you?
Do YOU have any idea what it means to follow Jesus?
E.G. Jesus says those who love Him obey His commandments.

Can one who does not love Jesus (and obey Him) make it to heaven?
IMO, those who adhere to the "grace only", "cheap grace", "greasy grace" gospel say "YES".
Am I wrong?

... his arguments are all based on scripture hence they should betaken seriously.
Those who have been deceived by the "grace only", "cheap grace", "greasy grace" gospel
have no interest in what all of Scripture says. They only believe what their "new" gospel says!

From someone elsewhere …
“Yes, the church has always held that one can turn back away from God, losing salvation.
Man's will is always involved to one degree or another.”

Since you love Hebrews so much ...
why don't you believe ALL of the many WARNINGS in Hebrews about losing salvation?

Next up, someone will challenge me to list them (at least 5 passages).
And I will respond, suggesting that I send him/her an NT.

"The Resurrection is the central theme in every Christian sermon reports in the Acts. The Resurrection, and its consequences were the "gospel" or good news which the Christian brought: what we call the 'gospels,' the narratives of Our Lord's llife and death, were composed later for the benefit of those who had already accepted the gospel. They were in no sense the basis of Christianity: they were written for those already converted. The miracles of the Resurrection, and the theology of that miracle, comes first: the biography comes later as a comment on it. Nothing could be more unhistorical than to pick out selected sayings of Christ from the gospels and to regard those as the datum and the rest of the New Testament as a construction upon it." (C.S. Lewis, Miracles )

Yes, this is a tactful way of avoiding the wrath of the many deceived believers in ...
the "grace only", "cheap grace", "greasy grace" gospel.
Congratulations anyway ... for being able to read and for not being deceived.
You are a very rare bird indeed amongst all of the many in the Laodicean churches of today.

Yes, thanks for sharing with us.
IMO, there is more to the on-going salvation process than merely faith.
Just for example: Jesus says, "If you love Me, obey My commandments."
Then, of course, we must ask ...
If one does not love Jesus, can he/she go to heaven?

he/she has not taken any part on the teachings and the doctrines of
Our lord Christ Jesus

Hebrews 5:12In fact, though by now you should be teachers, you still need someone to teach you the basic truths of God's word. You have become people who need milk instead of solid food.
