One of my friends, who is a pastor with sound evangelical training at Moody Bible Institute and a master's degree in Jewish Studies, shared an article with me by J. Daniel Hays called Applying the Old Testament Law Today.

This article describes how Christians can glean valuable insight from the Old Covenant laws, and derive spiritual and moral truths from them. While the specific application given to the ancient nation of Israel may not apply, there are underlying spiritual and moral lessons to be derived from them:

God gives us insight through his Word as we read it to understand what lessons apply to us today in our culture.

As with any article, I might not agree with every comment but the overall message is excellent.

The difference betwee n the old and new covenants regarding the law is, the heart of the law renains(not the legalistic law) but it got transferred from an external law written on tablets of stone to an internal law written on tablets of human hearts(2cor3:3) because this had happened the penalty for breaking the law was removed from the nor again christian, because in their heart they want to obey the law placed within them. They have been born again of the spirit

The difference between the old and the new is that the old was law and the new is life.

Only a law of righteousness was removed
Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness(rom10:4) not full stop!

That's nonsensical to me. Christ is righteousness; either you have him or you don't. Has nothing to do with law.

It might seem non sensical to you, but that is what Paul repeatedly states.the law itself has not been removed, but the penalty for you shortfall of obedience was paid at calvary

Do you believe it is wrong for a christian to commit adultery for instance? That law has been placed on your heart by the spirit

Pretty good in depth explanation of what many of us have been saying here; That the dividing of the Mosaic Law into civil, ceremonial, and moral laws is illegitimate; and that there is great value in all of scripture for Christians, but that it must be looked at and understood in light of the cross and the new covenant that God instituted through it.

The law has been taken out of the way because it could only work death. We who are dead to it are free from it so that we can be led of the spirit into all truth.

No the law has not been removed. The terms of the new covenant are very clear:

This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”[SUP][b][/SUP][SUP]17 [/SUP]Then he adds:
“Their sins and lawless acts
I will remember no more.”[SUP][
[/SUP]Heb 10:16&17

You need a saviour every day of your life for you cannot meet the perfect demands of the law. Paul specifically states Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness, not full stop!
Christ is your righteousness for you stand under a justification of faith in him, not one of observing the law. But the law still remains. That is why you know instinctively in your mind how God wants you to live and in your heart you want to obey.
There is no death from the law for the Christian because Christ stands before the Father as a once and for all time eternal sacrifice for the sins of all those who will come to God through him
