He that believeth on the son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth not that God hath made him a liar because he believeth not the "RECORD " that God gave his son.

And this is the " RECORD": that God hath given to us eternal life and this is in his Son.

1st John 5 verses 10 and 11

If you don't believe the record, that in Christ is ETERNAL life, you call God a liar.

John 10:28 "I give them (his sheep" )
eternal life and they shall NEVER perish"

Believe on the Saviour ( that he gives eternal life) and love the brethren.

And this is his commandment: That we should believe on the name of his son Jesus Christ and love one another as he gave commandment. 1 John 3:23

Oh how sweet it is to have God's spirit to believe that through and in Jesus Christ we have eternal life and love the brethren

May god bless you as only he can do............................................

May God bless you as well as you study His word and go with all that Jesus and John said as they both showed that doers of the word are the one's that know they have eternal life abiding in them.

Hearers only but not doers the Word of God says are deceived !!!

Joh 3:14-16

(14)And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
(15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
(16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I find it interesting that the same phrase is used back to back (repeated). Repetition amongst the Hebrews was used for emphasis.

Keep reading on down to John 3:21 as well as the teaching from Jesus does not stop at John 3:16.

Joh 3:17-21 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (19) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (20) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (21) But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

No problem there. We come to Him we come to the Light. Unbelievers, like dracula, hate the light, hate coming to Jesus so their evil will not be exposed.

The point I was making is that some like to take John 3:16 and make it stand alone, however John 3:21 shows an agreement with other such passages as Luke 6:46-49. That those who "do the truth" comes to the light as true believers who have eternal life will be manifest/noticed by how they walk and treat others.

Apostle John also in his first epistle chapters 2-4 writes a number of things and says to us I write these things to you so that we will know we have eternal life.

This goes hand and hand with Lord Jesus saying by their fruits you will know them !!!

Yes Brother, eternal life is in His Son.

So the only question for us who believe is; what would cause us to become removed from His Son, who is the source of eternal life.

As long as we remain connected to the Son, then we remain connected to the eternal life he provides to us.

That is the essence and the biblical definition of eternal life.

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

Eternal life is relationship to God.

Jesus just got through teaching about this relationship, just a few paragraphs back in John 15.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; John 15:1-2

If anyone does not abide
in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
John 15:6

In Him... then not in Him... thrown into the fire and burned.

The way we come to be in Him, is believe.

Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
...and in this case 'obey' means to follow the instructions of the Gospel..

Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
...and those were the instructions to obey.

It couldn't mean some type of keeping Commandments such as Christ gave to the rich young ruler, because...
Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Sadly some people just can not get out of their own way, and let God save them. They want to continue to try to save themselves. And call it faith.

Technically it is faith, only in themselves. :) However, the saving kind of faith is in the Lord, and not in self-righteousness.

What can be added to what Christ has done? What can a dead man do to effect his estate?

The Philippian jailer asked the apostles and received the answer back believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

Baptism was after belief for those who readying the well worn argument.

For the cause of Christ

I have ANYTHING better to do than get involved in this nonsensical debate once again.

We're saved by faith, period.
