I have been surprised at the answer to the question who are enemy and who are the brethren.

The brethren are those of the Kingdom of heaven who show the gifts of the spirit.

Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Gal 5:22-23

You will notice there is no mention of tongues, prophecy, teaching, healing, miracles, wealth, power, authority etc.

Who are the enemy?

Those who sow:-

Discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.
2 Cor 12:20

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.
1 John 2:9

Jesus said
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
John 13:34

Now I have shared simple basic truths of the faith, and some have called me their enemy. Mark this very simple spiritual point, you can become an enemy to Jesus, though you once were His friend. If any brother or sister comes with something that is difficult and you cannot still love them while discussing the subject, you may find you are arguing with Jesus and not them. No one is incapable of falling or making serious mistakes.

If you take walking with Jesus seriously, you need to realise only He does not get it wrong, and we are constantly tripping up, and the closer we get the more easily this happens. So please be careful how you respond, because we are all sinners saved by grace and in need of refining.

Gosh, and here I thought Jesus said Satan was the enemy.... not other people. Sounds like you are calling both, enemies.

It is an interesting point. It is always easier to say Satan and evil spirits are the issue, people are basically perfect.

But wait a minute. People sin, hurt one another, need forgiveness and to forgive. In fact 99% of the bible is about people doing the wrong thing, and very little about Satan.

So no the problem is 99% of the time with people, firstly ourselves and then secondly us inappropriately responding to those around us. Once we get that bit sorted out, getting the plank out of our own eye, we can start at helping others see.

Thank you for this polarisation as an example, but without care about ourselves we easily fail.

I like what you've shared, but disagree with the red lettered sentence. The closer we get the more easily we trip up? I can see where the closer one gets to the Lord the more they are attacked, but not the closer one gets to the Lord the more they trip up. Thoughts?

Those who are called brothers and have not love......like for the poor....that I've been discussing, are enemies of the cross. They that have taken up 'another' gospel and have not remained steadfast with the one 'once delivered unto the saints' would qualify as enemies of the cross.
Ill add this. They are enemies of His truth but can still be saved, heaven bound. But their works will burn.

Speak for yourself. I do not refer to Scripture to sound cool.
I'm afraid, in this case, that is just what you are doing. You know very well Jesus did not call Peter, Satan. He simply rebuked him for taking his focus off the things of God.

Moses does not honour the Lord before Israel

“Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”
Numbers 20:12

Saul is rejected as King

You have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you as king over Israel!
1 Sam 15:26

Jesus warns about people claiming insight while have none.

Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains."
John 9:41

Prophet commanded to not eat

‘You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.’
1 Kings 13:9

The old prophet.....lied....He ate.....a lion met him on the road and killed him

Jonah rebelled against the Lord and was shipwrecked and eaten by a fish.

These are examples of the price, and how easily a small stumble can have massive consequences.

People are ill and nead healed (thats how Jesus treated them)

The enemy is words.. Not a person..

Jesus told satan (the father of the words of lies Peter spoke) to get behind him.

We are called to love our enemy. Even Israel who are enemies of the gospel. So they can be brought to the light, and stop being our enemy.

Enemies of the cross.

The gospel account clearly shows the contrast or more like a war between Jesus and the religious leaders of His day, the powers that be, the recognized authority of Jerusalem. There are several reasons for this condition of the hearts of those in upper crust positions.
Their arrogance and personal pursuits were threatened by Jesus' example of humility and disinterested motives. He had laid down all and any mentality of esteem seeking and personal applause which was an opposite mind/heart set compared to the carnal leadership He confronted.
His very presence, without a word spoken, would bring immediate conviction, envy, and fear upon those whose hearts were 'far from God'. It would get so bad that those under the conviction sought comfort in numbers of the same ilk in order to 'sooth the savage breast' of discomfort. This, in turn, led to a debate over how to rid themselves of this 'disrupter' of their little self centered kingdom. The rest of the story you know.
It's all about flesh vs. spirit. Man's intentions vs. God's intentions.
There has always been this conflict of the ages, this 'war of the worlds', God's kingdom vs. satan's kingdom. A clash of ideologies, perspectives, intents, attitudes. A clash of righteousness vs. evil, humility vs. pride.
This war continues unabated unto this very hour but not where you think. It is right square in the middle of His 'church'! Jesus lives this same scenario out millions of times over through His children, the ones who 'make a clean break'. The ones who clearly demonstrate a total 'sell out' commitment to Christ when they discover the 'Pearl of great price'. This conflict and abrasive condition will always be in play when the fleshly traditions of man are confronted with the pure simple, uncompromising gospel that is fully birthed in the heart of a follower 'of the Way'.
Much of this is due to the fact that traditions and positions that were never ordained of God tend to feed and pamper the 'flesh', the 'old man' as it were, and has no real power in and of itself to help in the 'putting away' of that 'old man', but on the contrary, it tends to solidify and entrench the 'old man' in its new found position and quest. In a word, it left one arrogant world behind only to discover another arrogant world bristling with grandeur possibilities.
This is the problem in a nut shell with modern Christendom. Need I say that this very conflict is what the word warned us about when it was written 'quench not the Spirit of Christ'.
Now the majority of those that come to Jesus for salvation do not ever realize the full extent of this condition for one reason. The depth of their surrender left somewhat to be desired. To those whom 'much has been forgiven' seem to be the ones who fall under this weighty configuration, but not all. Much depends on the original 'tenderness of the heart' of the individual. But mainly, it depends again on the depth of repentance and the forsaking of the world.
This is the heart condition God is looking for, what He desires, the fertile ground that He can plant His 'stuff' in. Revelation, anointing, burden. A house cleared out and then filled with the right substance.
Look out. Here it comes. Those that hold this upper class position of leadership, and remember, God didn't set it up this way, end up having 'a real problem with this character', the one who has fallen head over heals in love with you know Who!
Let's take a look. This new convert has lost all interest in the world and its allurements and things. Not so with those in leadership. This new convert has lost all desire for mammon[money]. Not so with the leadership. This convert has a broken and contrite spirit and heart before the Lord, any little offence he is guilty of crushes him. Not so with the leadership. This new convert has an almost over-whelming burden for the lost and dying. Not so with the leadership. This new convert graduates some in the spirit and God begins to anoint him with the Holy Spirit with some broader callings. Here's where it can get real ugly. The leadership now feels threatened and jealous for after all, he, the leader,[so called], is the one who holds the power and keys to heaven, he is God's chosen to stand as mediator between God and the laity, he is the leader, shaker and mover, the 'anointed of God', he thinks. Others may see this anointed calling begin to bear fruit in this 'other guy' and begin to follow him or look to him for spiritual ministry....God forbid....and so he does, the leader that is, to forbid this broken, humbled servant of the most High from ever realizing their gift. He is stopped in his tracks, never allowed to fulfill the calling God has burning in his breast. Oh maybe a nominal crack at the pulpit once in a great while for appearances sake but this sold out saint must be ever content in the back of the bus...indefinitely!
This is the plight of religion and the spirits it spawns. Many a carnal man/woman[with money] can catapult to the top of the ekklesiastical heap with ease and unruffled feathers without ever making a deep commitment to Christ but God help the child of God that 'dares surrender all'! His life and walk on this planet will be of a different nature, a trail of tears, rejection and loneliness await him but so does the 'stuff' that makes for true men of God. So the choice is up to the individual. God leaves that in our care. Sail to the top in the 'Harlot church', long on recognition and success and short on God or refuse the obvious compromise and esteem the 'reproach of Christ' out-side the city your true treasure and delight! The first will avail you nothing of any eternal value, the second will avail you everything God deems as necessary.
So the Pharisees hated Christ. Not much has really changed. If this same Christ be in you, is it any wonder the ‘church’ leaders of today hate you to?
Anything 'of this world' will hate anything that is 'of Christ'. Anything 'patterned after the world' will hate even the more.
The next step...'love them that hate you and do all manner of evil against you'. Here's where the rubber meets the road.
The old testament kings killed the prophets of their day.Israel in the time of Jesus praised the prophets of the old testament. Israel rejected Jesus, killing Him and killing many of the believers of that day. Down through the centuries 'church leaders' honored the slain Christians of the first century and exalted a false christ as their lord. But they, in turn, killed many believers of their day as heretics. Today those believers are praised. Is it any wonder that the true prophets of God today are quickly and decisively dismissed and given the 'right foot of fellowship' right out the door? And so it goes, if God tarries, today's prophets will be honored oh....about a hundred years from now is my estimate. What's yours?

I find this an interesting case. What Peter was saying was 100% what satan wanted, Jesus to not die, to not go to the cross, and Peters love for Jesus, for the best, was a tug on Jesus's heart but was also 100% inappropriate.

If Peter had continued to hold this position he would have become a true enemy to Jesus.
Judas chose to do exactly that. How close are these two people? Two forks in the road?

Looking at the history of failure in walking in power and then getting it wrong, I would say, yes.
It is so easy to say everything is black and white and stays that way.

A brother in the Lord, had an argument with his son. The outcome mattered so much to him, he walked away from the Lord saying he did not mind if he went to hell, he would never repent. Now before this you would have never guessed at this outcome. About a year later, and patience from family and friends, he did come back to the Lord.

I have seen pastors fall, leaders get full of pride and then fall into sexual immorality. Some come back, others do not.

I know of people who witnessed to everyone, tried fanatically to be a good example, and a few years later end up murdering someone and falling away.

So there are no guarantees or who is saying what and why. There is only a guarantee in the Lord, and walking in His ways.

Point taken, but why not use examples of the other extreme:

A man with such deep faith in Jesus, his deceased daughter is resurrected.

A blind man with such deep faith in Jesus, his sight is restored.

A woman with such deep faith in Jesus, her 12 year hemorrhaging stops.

A prostitute with such deep faith in Jesus, she weeps at His feet with the utmost joy and conviction knowing that her sins are completely and eternally forgiven by our loving and gracious God.

Gospel: it means Good News.

no, I am just saying be careful Even th epeople who say those words are loved by God. We are to love them. not hate them..

The words are from satan, He is the ultimate enemy, they just god tangled up in satans lies. They need rescued.
