Faith vs doubt
I just finished reading Romans through Hebrews ,working through the new testament again.
There is so much writen about faith, especially in Hebrews.
So faith vs doubt has been on my heart alot.
What is gained in faith, what is lost in doubt.
Im not just talking about believing in Jesus, but every aspect of our walk in Jesus.
There are times when reading the scriptures where it was more than the Holy Spirit helping me, but times when reading a scripture, that I felt as though God Our Father was speaking to my heart directly.
But as this happened, doubt steped in. Fillling my thoughts with , boy you think God would speak to you? Arent you stepping over the line of faith here? Just doubt thoughts.
Then reading posts here, our brothers and sisters sharing in faith, and all of us questioning it sometimes.
Now I believe in testing spirits, that is scripturally valid.
Im refuring to doubt.
Then I considered faith, having the faith to believe that God Our Father does speak to our hearts as personally as he did.
That one can share a word or knowladge in faith.
I began to see that in doubt we lose everything, it dismisses all.
But faith gives everything, not just that which is given by God Our Father in Jesus, through his Holy Spirit. But the protection and power to cover even if we misinterpitied, or simply made a mistake.
God Our Father said, give unto me all you do and your plans will succeed.
I am glorified in your weaknesses!
I have come to see that doubt is to lose and always will.
But faith is always a win, win!
Because in faith Our Lord God will not fail us even when what we do fails!
Yes we must always test, but test in faith!
So in Faith vs doubt, Faith is clearly the winner.

Share your thoughts.

In faith, hope and Love!
God bless, pickles

Thank You for that post Pickles,

I have been for quite some time searching my own heart and asking this very same question. In the last two month's my faith has grown through just intensive study of the Word and prayer...along the way doubts of all sorts have popped up and tried to sway me from my walk with God...Today I heard God speak in my heart as I was reading this scripture..

Isaiah 55: 10-11
10 “ For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

I know it's Old Testament and you mentioned your readings in the New Testament ( which is mostly what I've been studying) however I've found this time that this book called the Bible is much more dynamic than I've ever thought before.

Crazy how when you first start out as a Christian you don't really think about spiritual warfare. Then as you mature sometimes you find yourself fighting to read the bible or pray. And it's like, why can't I just open the scriptures and start reading? Why all this distraction, why does my mind want to run off in a million directions? It's funny how you begin to feel the resistance when you want to draw close to God. But even then, that harassment, that "separation", that feeling that God is drifting from you, the feelings brought by the enemy, only backfire, making us run and hang on to him even tighter, and knowing he was never far away from us, just the enemy trying to block our view.

Doubt opens the doors to hell. Like you felt the Father was talking to you. You stand firm on when you feel God. Satan wants to snatch away you thinking that God was talking to you. And you don't let him.
Everytime we doubt we stop or slow down our prayers. Its so important for us not to doubt.

Beautiful, I just started again on Isaiah last night. Looking forward to this and more.

I don't think doubt in and of itself is a problem. I think God intends for us to be critical and to employ our reason. However, we need to handle the doubt in a proper way. I've seen and heard of many Christians who doubt, but never seek the answers to their questions. That is a problem. If we sit on our doubt, rather than tackling it head on, it becomes a barrier between us and communion with God.

However, doubt can be a great impetus for learning. I can't count how many times I've doubted something about God, and that doubt and desire for answers would lead me to search in Scriptures or email a friend or pray more deeply. If we take our doubt to God in earnestness and humility, it can gain much.

I compleatly agree with questioning, it is the hunger of faith.
But doubt is the desease that steals.
There is a difference.
If you refur to doubt in the context of seeing an element of deception or something based in only partial evidence , then yes , there doubt is good.
But I speak to that which steals faith and truth.

An important distinction to make, pickles! But I think the corrupting doubt comes from questions not sought or answered. It doesn't pop out of nowhere, it comes when we don't seek God's answers to our questions.

What was the line in the Case for Christ?

Something like 'faith without doubt, without anguish of mind, without searching, is merely an illusion and not genuine faith'

Why?

Well.. so in your walk you have questions and doubts about your beliefs.. so you can just blindly say it doesn't matter or ignore the doubts and just 'believe'.. or

you can actually try and get solid answers.. and thereby exercise faith by trusting that God will bring some answers! Thus faith is deepened, because the trust you have in God has been confirmed.

For example.. a christian is challenged by an atheist about the existence of God.. do they say 'I just believe..' or actually give some real reasons such as the complexity of design in nature.. the moral standards we live by.. the way nature is in delicate balance etc ..

So faith and doubt go hand in hand.... not giving in to doubt.. but challenging it with some reasonable answers to doubts.

Don't have to find answers for everything.. but if there is a roadblock in your christian walk in the form of doubt.. the answer isn't to bury your head.. but use your head to search out real answers to overcome the roadblock.

I am a big fan of doubt.

Doubt is a fine path to humility.

Doubt slays the ego.

The fact that I doubt has nothing to do with the reality of the gospel or the reality of God - it is a product of the limitation of my being.

It is humbling for me to know that my faith and works and identity is limited and therefore subject to doubts and fears.

Also, the more I experience doubt and fear and realize that they are not reality, the more confidence I gain.

Well said my friend, well said.

Hebrews 11:6 Says it all.

The assurance of things unseen. Faith.

& by faith & grace we get to heaven. =)

I agree Aspen, keeps us reminded that all is from God Our Father.
As long as we do not doubt God Our Father.
