In the present climate are we all ok with churches having individuals (trained security) carrying concealed weapons or does that rub your grain the wrong way...such as "they're not trusting God"?

My Pastor's voice is a concealed weapon.

It's like a sleeping pill.
No terrorist could stay awake long enough to harm anyone.

Both cheeks I will give, and trust God only. When I am told not to worry what man can do to my flesh, only be concerned with God who can destroy flesh, and soul. The only time I would worry about flesh, is if I felt I was rebelling against God..I would want to live, so that I could repent!

Heck, I would almost prefer people open carry to church. But, like I said tonight, most of my adult life has been spent in the American South.

would it be to each his own???

we just can't imagine our Saviour carrying - except for love and forgiveness...

FAITH must enter somewhere in this equation, for we know that our lives are a constant
test and counting of our priorities...

I have no problem with it. I went to my church back in NY for several years before finding out that at least 3 of the men there (and two elders!) always carried in church. Had no idea!

Of course it must..........but a gun is nothing more than a tool..........something one has in the event it is needed.

If people believe we MUST ONLY have faith that God will protect us from all harm, then why do the same people own homes, cars, clothes, electronics, have jobs and all other trappings? Shouldn't they have faith that God will provide them all of these as they are needed? Do they not have Bank Accounts/Savings Accounts/Retirement plans/Health and Dental Insurance? Should they not have faith in God rather than have all of these?

:)

we hear you PR.

everything in its proper place, no doubt...
the scripture does tells us, 'if we don't take care of our own household, then we are
worse than an infidel...

your list though does make us think, 'less STUFF - more FAITH,.. just sayin'...

I guess If the motivation for carrying a weapon is to defend yourself or others without anger towards the person you are trying to stop, then maybe Its ok, but Jesus told Peter If a person puts their hope In a physical sword they will perish by the sword.

Matthew 26:51-53
King James Version(KJV)

51.)And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

52.)Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

53.)Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

I don't see it as a problem because of a lack of faith, but rather just figuring a room full of people with guns sounds like a recipe for disaster for even those people sooner or later.

Peter carried a sword as he walked with Christ..at no point did the Lord tell him not to have it, in fact He told him to buy it.
If God tells a pastor to buy a gun...and that pastor buys it in faith? Then its faith. If he is a real man of God he will know if and when he needs to use it.

Exactly ...Its only when folks put on that phony religious mask about how spiritual they are, that they lose the ability to be honest about the faith they have or the faith they are walking in. If its not faith to protect your church..then its not faith to protect your home either. If you own a gun or anything else at home at home for protection ..why be a hypocrite when you go to church and play the game where you act spiritual?

We have mass shootings that happen in places where everyone is un-armed. You don't hear of people going into police stations and shooting up the place.

I think the more people realize that the protection of their families and themselves is their own responsibility the more people will carry arms.

But people will come up with all kinds of reasons to avoid this responsibility. Its fine if you don't care about your own life. Lay it down for some senseless terror attack or some guy(s) that just wants to shoot a bunch of people. But don't you care for your family or your brothers and sisters in the Lord?

When I go elk hunting I carry a pistol for insurance against grizzly bears. Because grizzlies will kill for all kinds of reasons because that is what they do. So I have a choice. Let the grizzly do what it does because that's what it is. Or stand up to the grizzly with a weapon that can stop it. Turn the other cheek to a grizzly??? Ok.... I mostly think people don't understand that turn the other cheek statement.

Its pretty much the same with anything bent on killing.

LOL...

When the grizzly bear comes, do you want to be in the room full of people with guns or do you want to be in the room full of un-armed people?

Why do police carry guns? Why aren't they worried they will shoot each other? LOL... When you convince the police of your argument you will maybe begin to convince me...

I think it's unwise to compare "people in a church" to "as police". People in a church have just the same variety as people in any other public place, in the manner of mental and emotional qualities. Further, regardless of how "batman" any given person with a gun believes himself to be, if he isn't police, or ex police or military, there's a high likelihood he doesn't have the training or discipline associate with such. Of course you can cite isolated exceptions, but the exception to a rule doesn't, cannot, promote practice.

Also, this isn't including the issue police and military people do victimize each other. They do, but I will spare you details for the purpose of this.

This question is easily answered for me. In Britain it is a criminal offence to carry an offensive weapon. This is normally referring to Knives because hardly anyone carries Guns including most of our police
