Choosing the right path

A STORY ABOUT CHOICES
A man is lost in the desert.
He is wandering around until he comes across a path.
He looks to the west and the path goes out into the desert.
He looks to the east and the path leads towards the distant mountains.
He decides that it would be cooler in the mountains so he heads east
Early the next morning he reaches the edge of the mountains and there is a fork in the path.
One fork leads up into the mountains and it is covered with loose rocks and he sees many boulders that he would have to climb over.
The path is very dim and hard to make out.
He looks at the other fork and it meanders around the base of the mountain on level ground.
He sees that it is well traveled.
He is tired and weary so he chooses the easier path.
After several hours he sees that the path continues on out into the desert again.
He decides to turn around and go back to the fork.
He finally gets there and starts up the path.
He falls on the loose rock many times and is battered and bruised but he finally reaches the crest of the path.
He climbs over one last boulder and he cannot believe his eyes.
There before him is a lush green valley surrounding a deep blue lake. There are tall trees with lots of shade.
In the far end of the valley he sees a welcoming tendril of smoke.
He rejoices as he starts down the gentle slope to a much deserved and hard earned rest.
