Words from our dear brother Paulus to the church of Rome

17. Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men.
18. If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men. (Roman 12:17-18)

No evil against evil, but love also your enemy, pray for them who blaspheme you, that they may come to know truth.

When we render evil for evil, we are as bad as our enemies and suffer the same fate. Resist the temptation to render evil for evil, and hold on to your peace.

Consider Romans 12:2 and 21 combined together:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, do not be overcome by evil, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, overcome evil with good. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Yeah, I must confess I have a hard time with this one. My natural inclination is to respond in kind and to wish anything but good for my enemies. Which is why I know that any other response coming out of me has to be Christ in me doing what He does.
