It is heart-breaking to see how animals are treated in order to procure milk and meat.
Yes, God gave man authority over animals, but isn't this misuse of authority?
How does God feel about the way animals are treated in the dairy and meat industry?
I am not promoting Veganism.
I just want to know the Christian approach to this...

I think it's terrible and we should not buy from them. I raise my own chickens and buy my milk and beef from the local farmers market. Only thing is this is way more expensive than the grocery but worth it to me.

Why would we think humans should treat animals better when humans don't even treat other humans right?

I will forever boycott eating veal because of the cruelty against the cows.

What would be considered the humane way to kill cows and eat them?

Let's talk about something that can be changed.. like abortion. That at least does not require abstaining from the activity that results in babies.

You can't change abortion. Once you go through with it, that's it. As for abstaining, if you don't want a baby, either don't have sex, or use a condom or two. If people would learn to use protection BEFORE they hop into bed, there wouldn't be nearly as many abortions performed every day, as there are now. But nooo, people are too hot and horny to take time to put on a condom.. :/ Then they end up with an unwanted pregnancy, and have an abortion to do away with it.

God was very pleased with this event: 2 Chronicles 7:3-5 (KJV)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
[SUP]4 [/SUP] Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
[SUP]5 [/SUP] And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

That's 22,000 oxen, 120,000 sheep, in one day.

and a continuation of animal sacrifices without God objecting.

So where does the Bible indicate Christians ought to object to the practices in that video?

Isn't the issue more about how they're treated while alive? My apologies, as I did not watch the video either. Many years ago, I was mostly vegetarian for a few years as a conscientious objector to the maltreatment of animals in the meat industry. I say mostly because I did still eat fish from time to time, before the malady of fish farms. Some will tell anyone who asks, that the best thing you could do as an individual to help the planet is to stop eating meat, since the resources required in man hours, vegetation (feed) water, etc to raise protein is far more costly and feeds far less people than the same resources put to growing other food sources. This issue brings to mind also the whole bovine spongiform encephalopathy issue (otherwise known as mad cow disease). The whole thing was preventable, being caused by feeding herbivores tainted meat from other species (scrapie-diseased sheep meat fed to cows). Even after this was discovered and outlawed, some farmers still did it. It all comes down to the love of money being the root of all kids of evil. Greed permeates and pollutes our world to the core.

I don't think I've had two glasses of milk in the last ten years so I'm almost there.
I haven't had milk in about 20yrs except occasionally in my coffee.

But I started putting it in my protein mix recently. It thickens it up and tastes better.

I put peanut butter in there too and that's amazing...

Satan has been working hard to destroy the food chain of every nation on earth. Having all people suffering malnutrition would work well toward his goal to destroy humanity, or at least neutralize us to be unable to promote the gospel. There are plenty of necessary factors requiring maximizing production of food. Small farms are not efficient enough to feed a world of hungry people. The people are there, we can't change that humanely, so we have to grow as much food as possible. It takes wise use of our arable lands, permanent croplands, and pastures. We need a variety of food resources including cattle for protein, fiber, and mineral nutrients.

Huge areas of the USA are used for cattle grazing (pastureland) because of situations like where there's only an inch or two of suitable soil over rock. Practically all that acreage is fit only for grazing on native grasses supplemented by seeded pasture where enough rainfall will support it.

I say that to explain that even though producing meat on range/pasture is definitely inefficient, it's the only option for growing food on most of our agricultural acreage. Most planted annual crops require irrigation and costly weed/pest control that is still hazardous to our health. English walnuts grown in California require 5 gallons of water per nut. We have lost a huge percentage of many types of crops due to drought and flooding recently, while pastures resume production much quicker. The idea is to grow a variety of foods so that when protein rich crops fail, meat is available, and cows can be moved around. Protein source foods are generally more expensive to grow, using a lot more resources like water and soil nutrients than required for cattle. Filling a water tub with drinking water for cows has negligible impact on our fresh water supply compared to growing rice or soybeans, which are lowering the water table from east to west coast.

Support food diversity rather than boycott it.

I live in a track home in Las Vegas, I grow half the food for my family of 4. My water bill is about 40-50 per month. We are all vegan and I grow organic. The problem is people forgot how to take care of themselves.

I agree. The problem is though that diversity is being slowly phased out by the multinational pharmaceutical companies that produce the herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides used in crop production. Not only are more and more foods being genetically modified without our knowledge or consent, but extinction of certain species is occurring right under our noses due to chemical contamination of our lands and water, while others species are slowly disappearing... not to mention the toxicity levels increasing disease complications and fatalities in humans. You might think that farmers would be savvy to keep the cycle of life as natural as possible, but many have bought into and become financially dependent upon a system that breeds death, even in the (terminator) seeds.
