Many people say that watching pornography is a sin. But, I don't understand what makes them think so. Bible doesn't say anything about virtuality. Reality is made by God and virtuality is made by people. Virtuality has completely different rules.

Matthew 5:27
You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Here Jesus talks about an act “look”. In the original Greek, one of the meanings for the word Jesus uses for “look” is intentional and repeated gazing. So, if you look at a woman with lust it's a sin. But what about if you imagine or dream? It's not the same thing. Otherwise, why do people want to be married?
So, “look” and “dream” it's two diffident things. You can dream or wish about anything you want it's not going to change anything. We are people and before we make a choice we think first, we can think about good and bad it's part of our free will, but it's nothing while it's in our minds.
The reason why people think that watching pornography is a sin, is because it's new. Years ago my parents and my grand parents (and also many churches) thought that watching TV and listen to a music is a sin. But, now it's not a sin anymore.
In my opinion it's better to watch pornography than have real sex. You should think about consequences first and than about fun. But most of the people think only about fun. There are really bad consequences of sex. It's kids. I don't say that kids are bad, I say that having them is bad.
I think those people who have kids are foolish and selfish people who can't control their desires. Having kids is not a sin. However, Jesus never had them. Maybe it was a blessing to have kids before sin entered this world. But, now this world is cursed by God.
I don't want to bring sinful people into this sinful and cursed world. Why would I? This world doesn't deserve my child. I know that there are much more pain than joy in this world and I don't want my child to suffer in it. I don't want my child to grow up and say “Father, why you brought me into this sinful world? Why do I need all this problems?”

Can you pray to Jesus, in all of His holiness and splendor, while watching pornography? I'm just asking.....Because if you can't, then it's probably "looking" with lust in your heart which is wrong.

And, wow...kids are the problem of lust? Not aids, or syphilis, or herpes, or rape, but kids. OK....I got nothing....

A picture and a woman is two diffident things. Why don't you want to marry a picture instead of a woman if it's the same thing?

Clearly this is a joke right????? I mean you dont HONESTLY think that do you??? If so, let me add something to your prayer.

Father knock some sense into this kid.

Pornography is a sin because it is lust of the flesh.

The Apostle Paul suffered from lust, but he learnt the reason, as well as the solution. Incidentally far more Christians than are prepared to admit have a problem with lust.

Greetings Kostik,

I personally do not believe that looking at pornography is a sin. (Please give me a chance to explain!)

Is it sin for a doctor to examine a man's wife's body in a doctor's office? No. It's not a sin.

Walking down the street and seeing a pornographic magazine on the sidewalk is not a sin. But looking at those images in a desirous manner is a sin. Looking at them and looking away, or rolling the magazine up and tossing it in the dumpster is not a sin.

Now the question then becomes, is there any necessity of looking at pornography if the purpose isn't for us to lust? I don't think that there are many. In some lines of work it may be necessary, if you work in some censorship job for the government you may be required to see if a certain image or whatever is appropriate or not. Well, in those cases it's not sin.

But for the generality of the world and for Christians, there really is no reason for us to look at pornography, except by accident and then to look away. Anything else is lust and that is sin.

In order to imagine that woman, you would first of had to look at her! You can't imagine the image of a specific woman without first actually looking at her in the first place.

You're trying to separate imagining a woman from the act of looking. You can't separate the two. Developing the imagination depends on LOOKING!

Your second question....

Otherwise, why do people want to be married?

Well because it's impossible to have a relationship, babies and a family with an imagination.

As far as the dream aspect of your question. I don't think our dreams are necessarily held against us. Most of the time those can't be controlled, unless of course you're feeding your mind porn and the porn causes your brain to dream of those.

Lusting for your wife/husband is not a sin but lusting after others is. I really have a problem with lust. My mind goes to places it shouldn't and I feel very shameful about it. Now there is temptation but you don't have to follow into it. You can't stop a bird from flying over your head but you can stop it from making a nest in your hair.

You say lust is a sin.
Bible doesn't say "Lust is a sin."
When you look at your wife with lust it's not a sin, because she is your wife.
When you look at a woman who is not your wife with lust it's a sin. Right?
And why do you think that imagining or dreaming with lust is a sin? Maybe I'm imagining or dreaming about my future wife, then i don't sin.
Imagining and looking is not the same thing.

The bible says lusting after your wife is a sin also I think:

1Th 4:4 each one of you to know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor
1Th 4:5 (not in the passion of lust, even as the nations who do not know God),

Looking at pixels is not the same as looking at the real thing. It's the same as your imagination. You play games you kill virtual people on your screen, you don't go to jail for that. Because it's not the same as killing real people.

Let's be honest....you aren't just looking at the naked women and admiring God's handiwork, right? You are acting on the sexual desires that these pictures of naked women are inspiring in you, right?

That's true, it is not as bad, as having actual sex for example. But I think God is concerned with our motives, our desires, why we spend time killing people on a screen? Why we spend time having virtual sex? What is it replacing? To know that God loves us deeply? Someone to talk to? A good job? A happy relationship? A sense of being wanted and valued?

Ey up Kostik. I have some empathy with your method and train of thought in this matter and I disagree with NodMyHead that you need some sense knocking into you. I haven't got time to go into it now, but I do however think in this instance you're approaching the issue from the wrong angle.

This sexual desires are inspired by pictures of naked women. Not the real woman, but pictures. You just deceive your sexual feelings using pictures. And why do you think that's a sin?
