the holy spirit is not subservient to any one or any thing except the father. until we preach a gospel that recognizes this truth, we will be preaching a false gospel, one which leaves the believer in their sin.

thats strange VW, didnt Jesus send the Holy Spirit:

48 You are witnesses of these things. 49And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

Luke 24:48-49

in actuallity, the father sent the spirit, as recorded in john, where jesus said that he would ask the father to send the spirit.

hummmmmmmmm..............i guess we will just have to ask the spirit who sent him to us.he probably knows.

Exalted to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. Acts2:33

and yet in john it is recorded that jesus said that he would ask the father to send his spirit.

this is just one example of why we need the spirit to teach us.

the spirit searches all things, even the deep things of god.

we are fooling ourselves if we believe that we can understand the things of god by just reading the bible.

if we would learn of god, then we should let him teach us.

Yes the spirit will open our eyes to the truth of Scripture :)

You obviously seem to think there is something wrong with Scripture VW you are implying that it contradicts itself????, are you now saying that it contradicts itself????

Just come out and say it.

Ok, back to the original intent of the post.

I don't want this to be that long, so I'll try and keep it short.

We have two approaches to things that I see.

One side is focused on receiving Jesus, evangelizing and kinda just hunkering down, waiting for the second coming. To them that's the sum total of their spirituality.

The other side looks at the more practical rules for actually living on this planet. Rules like be honest in business, giving to the poor, save your money, don't go in debt, work hard. The end result of that focus is a rather prosperous life where things go pretty well with you. Which is to be expected, seeing that being honest, working hard and saving money and being generous can get a person far in this world.

The first focus sees the second focus and accuses them of being only for Earthly gain. The second focus sees the first focus and thinks that they're saying everyone should just accept Jesus, sell everything, preach the Gospel and hunker down, waitin for Jesus to come back.

Here's the deal, the Bible actually teaches both! The problem is that folks tend to focus on one to the exclusion of the other.

Some focus on the book of proverbs, that if followed, should yield a good life on this planet. Some focus on the NT calls to spiritual devotion, selling all and evangelizing.

Bottom line is that both are in our Bible and we need to find a balance between teaching both that keeps our priorities in order.

In a sense both extremes are wrong. The hunker down group looks more right and holy, because they really aren't focusing on material things. Yet any focus that ignores the whole of scripture is wrong too.

At least in my opinion.

You've missed a group.

There are always extremes. but there always those in the middle who can have a balance view of scripture, Scripture is the authority on all matters of Faith.

there is a third focus in the scriptures, which most do not even want to acknowledge. that is true faith in jesus.
