Do you hold that sanctification is an event, a process, or both? Please explain and use scriptures to support your position.

I would say both, because we are sanctified by the Living Word of God and Holy Spirit anointing in an instant, at that day we are in Christ, and Christ is in us. But the cleansing and purification of our hearts is a ongoing process after we are anointed of God and set apart for his service.

Sanctification is the process of allowing the holy character of God to be lived out in our behavior as the risen Lord Jesus lives out His life through us. It is the "life of Jesus manifested in our mortal bodies" (2 Cor 4:10).

The circumcision of Christ and the anointing of the spirit set us apart from the flesh and world, and we set ourselves apart from the defilements of the world through our behavior as long as we live.

Sanctification is an on going process and I know you asked for scriptures but there is to many to post that show this.

Apostle Paul constantly talks on this sanctification process by how we walk, turning away and putting to death our former selves and learning to walk by/in the Spirit !!!

One clear one I can give you is from Peter:

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19)

The times of refreshing is the remission (forgiving) of future sins that have been committed !!!

Both.
He first picks us up to sit in heavenly places -eph 2
Then
He cleans us up molding us into His image 2Cor 3 and a bunch of other verses.

2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV
[18] But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

This is what some believers in the grace of our Lord Jesus have to say about "sanctification"..the word itself means = "to be set apart"

We are perfectly sanctified in Christ now....very true....we as an identity the new creation in Christ will never be more holy...

.however there is a "sanctifying" of our behavior that is on-going that reflects our true nature in Christ...so in essence...we are becoming outwardly who we really are in our inner man which is in Christ.

God sets apart ( sanctifies )our attitudes and actions outwardly but you are 100% set apart ( sanctified ) as a person..the real you in your inner man..the new creation in Christ.

Hebrews 10:14 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. ( this is present passive..passive is that something is being done to you ...the Spirit of the Lord in us changing us. )

Here is what Jesus told Paul on the road to Damascus....having been sanctified ( perfect passive )..= done deal

Acts 26:17-18 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you,
[SUP]18 [/SUP] to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.' ( perfect passive )

Sanctification outwardly to our "religious minds" could mean a lot of different things to different people as it depends on the religious beliefs formulated from our backgrounds....along with all the "biggie sins" and could be to them things like..no smoking..no drinking..no going to church..no reading your bible every day..no praying for an hour each day.....no going to a movie...reading a newspaper...no being a servant of God...to the religious mindset it means no doing "what I don't do.."..etc

This is the other half...

It is obvious from scripture that we are to walk out the holiness that is already in us...in our inner man..the new creation in Christ. There is a difference between us as a person being "set apart" ( sanctified in our spirit ) and "setting apart " ( sanctifying ) our behavior.

1 Peter 1:15-16 (NASB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
[SUP]16 [/SUP] because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Grace777x70 again.

for some reason everytime I try to rep you, I get this message, so then I spread It around but then It still won't let me rep you yet, but nevertheless, I like your post and will continue to try to rep you.:)

Both. We are set aside for the Lord when we are saved but the process of growing should start and continue throughout our lives here.

Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
[/QUOTE]
I was curious as to what scripture you might use for the process of sanctification?:)

I like
+++
Romans 12:1-2
King James Version(KJV)

1.) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of GOD, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto GOD, which is your reasonable service.

2.) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of GOD.

Yeah, me either, but I received a really sweet message from a girl who did this to me yesterday. So, is it proper to thank people for this publicly or every time? I see this happening on threads in other forums. Also, not to derail this thread, but how do you friend people? thx in advance for an answer.

Sanctification Christ says "is by faith that is in me"

To be edified by our faith is a matter of doctrine.

Would you say that It Is both an event and a process?
I would unless it is described as a one time event, that I can not agree with because Paul described salvation as that of running a race.

It is a ever moving forward process to bring one away from the past sinful old self to bringing them to the new person we are in being more and more like Him in His righteousness !!!

Paul shows it is a very active process and not one of a sit back we don't have to do nothing type as peddled around today !!!

You could PM them and thank them for the reps..people do that to me when I give them out...but I usually like to say something to them personally personallym when I "rep" them....still not sure the actual purpose of it is tho...to "friend" is to click on their name and then click on " add as contact"...hope that helps..
