@Forthangel My intentions aren't to stir anyone up or oppose anything anyone else believes in. I am just looking for understanding in it. Christianity and it's beliefs are all still very new to me and my comprehension skills of trying to understand a lot of biblical terms and slang still stand out as a foreign language in a way. Last time I asked questions, my thread turned into arguments and which led me to feel quite stupid for even asking questions, so I left this site for a while.
Thank you for the verses, especially the last one. When is the Holy Spirit around? Is it like Jesus just everywhere? Is there a difference between the works of Jesus and the works of the Holy Spirit?
Don't worry. I was only warning you so you wouldn't be surprised.
As for the works of Jesus and the works of the Holy Spirit:
Jesus completed his work while on the earth when he went to the cross and rose again. He is now in heaven awaiting the time when he will return. He sent us the Holy Spirit in his absence to guide us into truth and to work in us to produce good fruit and to be conformed to the image of Christ.
The Holy Spirit's power was evident through the Apostles when they performed miracles as confirmation of the authority they had to speak for God. The sign gifts were not meant to last forever. They served the same purpose as they did for the rest of the prophets in the bible. We now have a completed canon of scripture with all revealed from beginning to end.
The things you described in your OP are not mentioned in scripture, but some will twist scripture to make their preconceived idea of the Holy Spirit fit. Many of them turn the Holy Spirit into an idol of sorts, even if their view of Him is inconsistent with scripture.
The main thing to remember is that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. One thing you can do to determine if a practice or "miracle" is from God or not is to examine the TEACHINGS of the one claiming it's from God. If what they are teaching does not line up with scripture or they have in some way maligned God as revealed in scripture, then the miracles can be categorized as false.
2 Thes. 2 shows us that satan can also perform miracles and signs and wonders, so there is a danger in believing every spirit. As Tintin stated, we have to test the spirits to see if they be from God.

With that being said, I'm sure someone will accuse me of being antichrist for not believing the sign gifts are still active so let me pre-empt that by saying:
God can work miracles any time he pleases. Am I seeing bonafide miracles today that resemble those clearly portrayed in scripture? No. Does that mean God isn't doing them? In my opinion, yes, however, it is possible that God is still working certain miracles for people at certain times, but I contend that it would be extremely, extremely rare. God still heals, albeit providentially. He may still heal miraculously on occasion. Like I said, I haven't seen it for myself, but am not opposed to the idea that he still does. Salvation in and of itself is a bonafide miracle IMO.
The circus sideshow we see in a lot of churches today though is not miraculous. It's a mockery of the true faith and a mockery of the Holy Spirit.
