I've been feeling conviction using anti aging creams and getting Botox done. I use sunscreen whenever I go outside and retina cream for wrinkles at night. I also use several other products for anti aging. I love God and I want to do the right thing and I guess sometimes I feel like I place too much focus on my appearance. Maybe it stems from low self esteem. I was wondering what thoughts you guys might have. Thanks. God bless you all.

I don't think it's a sin to use anti wrinkle cream, but it's a total waste of effort and money.

Welcome
How come there's always a newbie having their first question being "is X a sin?"

If you truly are new and searching, forgive us, but you sound very much like others that have kept returning here to troll us,so you might get some rejecting remarks here.

In short: There are other things you should worry more about, like_ Is your love for God and the people around you at the level the bible says it should be?

No, it's not a sin. There's no shame in trying to take care of yourself. God bless you as well. Welcome to CC.

Anti aging...hmm...I think the best way of dealing with this is to accept the fact that you are getting older.

I found an amazing cream which makes me look 40 years younger.

Sorry, I'm not trying to troll anyone. I'm trying to get closer to God and I just felt that the first thing I should do was get rid of those things I felt I was idolizing alcohol being one of them and as I previously stated these creams. I just wonder if I'm dedicating too much time on something I shouldn't focus on. I've gone without them, but never for a long period of time.

Why do women wear lipstick? Did they lose their natural color in the garden of eden?
How did that idea come about?

I think they are trying to reclaim something that was lost in the fall.

Botox isn't good for you, and you invariably come out looking like a cartoon caricature of yourself. Just take a look at Cat Woman (Jocelyn Wildenstein) and Michael Jackson, among others. They were both gorgeous before they started playing around with plastic surgery. Now they look freakish.. :/

Actually I only use Botox between my eyebrows and on my forehead. Nothing too crazy. I don't use it anywhere else. I also wouldn't do anything else to my face.

Botox is a poison so maybe rethink that one

I have dry skin and have been creaming away since forever. There is absolutely a difference in using something to hydrate your skin

Sunscreen is prob good too

I even use vaseline sometimes on my face during the winter...dry!

My husband appreciates me taking care of myself but wrinkles still come with the territory.

The problems begin when folks become obsessed with their looks.

I imagine Michael Jackson looks pretty hideous now, botox or not! No disrespect to him though. ;)

To the OP... if you feel that God is asking/telling you to give something up, and you don't, then for you it is a sin. Read Romans 14, particularly the last few verses. It's a matter of conscience. :)

As to whether using anti-aging treatments is inherently sinful, no.

That's my concern. I don't consider myself a vain person. I think I have a low self esteem issue. I don't know. I feel unattractive at times. Also, I'm single so I feel like I have to take care of myself so I can attract the right one. I know that God is leading me to focus more on the beauty that, comes from inside. I want to have a beautiful spirit and not worry so much on my outside appearance.

Thank you! Great response. I'm leaning more towards that. It's not so much the usage of the creams themselves but the importance that I've given them to feel happy about myself. I will keep praying on it.

I don’t think it’s a sin but I think it’s a waste of money. Aging is something to be proud of. Read this (“hoary” means “gray or white”):

You shall rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the LORD.” Lev 19:32 RSV

Beautiful scripture. Thanks for sharing. Funny you mention that. I have grays and I dye them black. Thing is I can go months without dyeing my hair so it's really no big deal for me. I think the longer I'm led by the Holy Spirit a lot of these hangups I have on my appearance will fall away.
