When the bible speaks of us "laying up treasures in heaven", what kind of treasure is it talking about? Is it cars or houses, money or jewels, etc? I hope my heavenly treasures are a little log cabin on a lake, with lots of geese and ducks and wildlife, an endless supply of bread, and doggies and kitties running all around..lol.. :) That's what I want my heavenly mansion to be: a cozy little cabin.. But I digress.. What exactly are our heavenly treasures? Are yours different than mine, or are they all the same? :)

I think it's speaking in investing our time and energy in seeking Him and His ways and in serving others for His Kingdom sake.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
(Mat 6:19-20)

Proverbs 16:16
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

I think of it quite literally in that of divine providence. Give and you shall receive, quite the investment plan. God protects our finances and investing in His Kingdom has returns, both eternally and in the now. Eternally in that of souls saved through supporting ministries and in the now as God blesses our finances.

Uh oh, did I just say that God provides abundantly? How blasphemous! How could I possibly think God, who is our loving Father, would put in place principles to allow us to thrive in life and be blessed to be a blessing? That prosperity Gospel, making God look like a giving, loving and providential Father. Tsk tsk.

I don't think it is material treasures, but spiritual ones

That being said, I sure wouldn't turn down a cabin in the woods, by a lake, with a boat, and a library ... :D

Matthew 6:19-21
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This is how we are to look upon riches, and there is no disgrace in being wealthy if it is the rewards from the blessings of God. God promised us in His Word that when we follow his Word, and do a thing as taught in His Word, then He would reward us openly, and those blessings are for this earth age as well as the next.

There is nothing wrong is storing up provisions for the future, and many people today store up to a year, to protect themselves from hard times. Jesus is telling us that storing in excess, for the sake of greed, and that is to become a religious form to you, it is wrong. Are you putting that before God, and your service to Him?

There is a big difference between wealth by traditions and wealth by blessings of God.

Those riches that you store up in heaven can never be stolen, because there are no thieves there. Part of your wealth when you become a son of the Living God is the inheritance that comes with your adoption into His family.

It is not just things, but in the position, and responsibility that comes with the position. My friend, there is no way that you can out give God, for in the end, when the records of your deeds are accounted for, each will be well rewarded for.

The greatest treasure anyone can have is to know, and be part of our Lord Jesus Christ's kingdom. To know that the bonds of our sins are gone because of the price that Jesus paid on the cross. Eternal life is only possible because of the blood of Jesus Christ, and that is the greatest gift anyone can have.

Anyone can have that gift, just for the taking, and you receive that gift by your repenting of your sins, in Jesus Name, and believing in Him and turning from those wicked ways to God's way.

Your heart is the intellect of your soul, and that is contained in your mind. It is what you think, and what you hold to be dear in your mind. If the making of money, for money's sake is foremost in your efforts, then that is where your heart is. However, if while serving our Lord, He pours the blessings on you, then your treasurers and heart are in the same place, where it belongs.

Don't let earthly things get in the way of our heavenly Father.

Awww, thank you, Joi.. :) And now a question about our heavenly mansions. I know Jesus is building/ preparing them for us, but will they be actual mansions? Or will he build us whatever type of house we want, like my log cabin? lol

I think He will give you what is most pleasing to you. It's really His desire inside of us that is being manifested. He is our life....I know that He loves you dearly and He is going to have these waiting for you in your "cabin"...

I believe treasures in heaven are the consequences of our loving the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and loving our neighbors as ourselves. We will find ourselves in situations we never could have imagined, to our great satisfaction.

You are welcome!...our good loving Father is a God of "abundance" no matter what the religious mindset tries to tell us....you will have plenty to share with others......I wonder if kittens age there and grow up to be cats?...I guess we will find out...:)

I've got absolutely no idea. Only thing I can take to heaven is souls. I once got a vision of diamonds and such when I was praying for souls and got this text, but I don't know if that is what this text is about.
Isaiah 45
*I will give you the treasures of darkness
And hidden riches of secret places

I believe (not to be confused with authoritively, or I'm thoroughly knowledgeable on this, or any concept that it is anything other than what I believe for now) that we will be spend eternity praising and worshipping God. If we get literal mansions, we won't want to waste time in there, unless somehow we can still spend time worshipping God face-to-face. I think the treasures are God imbedding his infinite how'd-he-do-that into us, causing us to want to do nothing else but worship him. ("Why did you make me go through...?" "Becauses..." "Whoa! Halleluiah! Wonderful plan!" And then sometime later, "What about Hitler? What's up with what he did?" "Because..." "Whoa! Halleluiah," ....)

In heaven, the love God fully and love others laws becomes truly, completely, perfectly like it was meant to be, leaving us with no desires for a cabin in the woods and a good fishing lake. (Hey, I want the cabin AND the fishing. Ducks and geese are optional. lol) All desire for God like we were formed to be.
