here, for your edification, is a LIBRARY OF THREADS ON TONGUES

use it wisely

this subject has been gone over from every direction and does nothing but make people choose sides

we have the cessationists who are convinced the Holy Spirit really did pack a bag and head for the coast and we have the other far extreme view that you are not saved if you don't speak in tongues

neither opinion is correct

check out the link...it's a gold mine

How would you guide someone to have a tongue?

They have to do that on their own accord,by submitting to the Spirit, which sometimes we do not know what to pray for,so the Spirit makes intercession for us,and if a person can bridle the tongue, which is the most unruliest member of the body, then they can cause the whole body to submit, and abstain from sin,but the Bible says no man can tame the tongue,so the Spirit tames the tongue, the one part of the body that we cannot cause to cease from sinning, for while someone might not to do someone physical harm, they might dog them out with their mouth.

Just lay hands on them and pray for them and like with kids explain it's as easy as drinking a glass of water. If they're from church I'd just take 'em to the service and they can get prayer there to receive it or also the baptism of the Spirit if they haven't yet.

Nobody can 'guide" someone to have a tongue. It is a spiritual gift, one of 9 mentioned in 1 Cor. chapter 12. GOD GIVEN, HOly spirit annointed...which means that no earthling can produce that gift in another..try as they may. We can pray, we can share, bond, explain what tongues means to us, but we cannot 'give" it or 'guide" it to someone. My grandfather had the gift of healing...but he could not pass it on to me. I have read many other's experiences involving tongues..such as Smith Wigglesworth, John G. Lake, etc...and it has really opened my eyes...but, it did not pass from the book to my body. I once knew a person who had the gift of tongues...very prophetic...but it was in English....and the audience was mixed languages. Depending on where and whom, the tongues are indeed beneficial and edifying...in any language, known or unknown. There is also a difference between private prayer tongues and congregational outspoken tongues with an attached interpretation. It's all good, it's all supernatural, and GOD would not be made a fool of. "Tongues" is nothing to be scared of, nor is it to be condemned, nor assumed it was only for yesteryear.

[27] If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn; and let one interpret.
[28] But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God. 1 Cor 14:27-28 RSV

Funny really, not funny ha ha but funny peculiar, I was wondering how I was going to word this question.

We really are a silly bunch on CC, but in faith I will re-ask it. Thank you all for the advice given.

How would I guide someone here on CC to hold and own the gift of tongues if they said they had accepted Christ and had had evidence in their own lives that the Holy Spirit was in them?

That link is still not working ember. But the threads from the search engine will take some time, thanks.

If someone is desiring to speak in a tongue, the only way you could guide them would be to teach them all that is available concerning the subject. If said someone is born again, they already "hold and own" the gift of holy spirit which manifest itself 9 ways - listed in 1 Cor. 12 - although most use the word "gift" when speaking of verses 8-10. Verse 7 says - but the manifestations of the Spirit . . . then goes into the list.

BTW - even when you post on this thread at the bottom, there is a list of previous threads on the subject.

Why have they ask about tongues only? Nobody to talk about another's gifts of Holly Spirit.KJV.1Corinthians12;30-31,30.Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31.But covet earnestly the best gifts; and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.; By the way, according this verses, the tongue doesn't belong to the best gifts.
