All the time, and a lot of them talk too much!

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.

Matthew 8:22 But Jesus said unto him,
Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

"I see dead people."

This was also asked about a week ago by another user about psychic talking to the dead....they are soothsayers as the Bible calls them and should not be consulted b/c they are talking to demons (who know a lot about every human being b/c satan has a profile on you just like GOd does , that's how he attacks you with certain sins) once a person dies they either go to hell or heaven, there is no purgatory/half-way house for souls once you leave this plane....as heb 9:27 man is destined to die once and after that face judgement, not wander around like a ghost on the earth but face God and be judged to go to heaven or hell....do not consult these type of dead talking people because you only invite demons into your life by tapping into it, also avoid horoscopes they are a similar type of sooth saying /fortune telling. God bless!

I forgot to add Leviticus 19:31 is a scripture that forbids it.... (so you have a scriptural reference)

Claims of conjuring the dead is evil and demonic, to be avoided like the plague. There are more than 33 Baskin Robbins flavors of "Christians" out there who aren't Christians, the devil coming as an angel of light.

Deuteronomy 18:9-12 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

It is possible to talk to demons. Don't watch that stuff. That's dangerous.

19*And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God?*Should they seek*the dead on behalf of the living?*20*To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word,*it is*because*there is*no light in them.

21*They will pass through it hard-pressed and hungry; and it shall happen, when they are hungry, that they will be enraged and curse their king and their God, and look upward.*22*Then they will look to the earth, and see trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and*they will be*driven into darkness.

Avoid Wicked Customs

9*“When you come into the land which theLord*your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.*10*There shall not be found among you*anyone*who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire,*or onewho practices witchcraft,*or*a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,*11*or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.*12*For all who do these things*are*an abomination to the*Lord, and because of these abominations the*Lordyour God drives them out from before you.*

Her gift is the gift of deception....because there is no communication coming from Heaven (unless from God, Jesus the Holy Spirit or angels) to mankind that you see of in the BIble....no human interaction like say "dead king David" talking to his son Solomon on earth....it's not in the Bible/ b/c once mankind dies and crosses into eternity they don't have connection to the Earth anymore...they can see it probably but not interact with it....

Don't watch that stuff as coby said, it opens gateways to your soul for demons to access you....just repent and ask God for forgiveness and to heal any breaches in your hedge of protection from God that may be there because of watching that....

I agree with others here in saying that familiar spirits can mimic humans and this isn't something to dabble in or play with.

But, I differ from others here who say, everyone who dies is sent to heaven or hell upon death.

"The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death." Revelations 20:13-14

This passage is talking about the judgement of the dead which takes place after the judgement of satan -- some might say it's a future event, others might say it's happening now as people die.

There's also the story of Saul using a witch to call up Samuel, who was possibly in Sheol waiting for Christ (I'm speculating now, but the story is real).

I believe there are spiritual gifts that come through the bloodline -- but are they really gifts, if they do not come by the Holy Spirit? If someone has the ability to see spirits, sometimes the ability itself comes from a spirit. Other times it might come in an innocent way, just inherited, but that does not mean it will be used in an innocent way. Even if someone does have these abilities and uses them with the best of intentions, it is still 'leaning on our own understanding.' We need God in order to be able to handle the supernatural.

It can be easy to get lost in the spiritual world without God being our most pivotal, central relationship and our highest authority.

Thank you for the clarity it helped I try to be a good person and not get involved in bad things etc. It try to stick to watching upbeat t.v. shows that are from the good old days as one might say every once in a while i will turn to something random and watch and wonder. I do not want to watch something that may make me look unholy or anything like that.

The witch at endor was not calling Samuel up but a spirit that mimicked samuel....if it was okay with God then the Holy Spirit protection on Saul (even though he was still disobedient then) would not have lifted completely off him despite his disobedience towards God, God still loved and protected Saul b/c he was chosen/annointed by God to be king....I think the witch conjuring was the last straw because Saul even said he tried talking to God but that God was silent towards him so he thumbed his nose at God and said well If you won't talk to me I'll talk to the dark side which was probably the last straw for God..

As to revelations scripture I think that is more a physical resurrection of the dead bodies to be transformed into immortal ones....sort of like baking a cake, it starts out with batter in a pan but is not "perfect/finished" until it is baked (i know weird food analogy but all I can think of at this point.) I think it's more of a physical resurrection where the dead soul is allowed to go back into the body (from wherever it came from heaven or hell) and then take that body with them to heaven or hell for all eternity.....heaven will probably have the same bodies but without imperfections/disease...hell will probably have even worse bodies than here on earth.....again jmo...i don't have all the answers but just my theory if you will...revelation is sometimes thick to understand but still worth reading ;)

Jennifer, you have completely and absolutely missed the message of the gospel. Being a Christian is not about us, or the work we do, it is about Jesus, and his work.

You say you are trying to live a holy life. That is not a bad thing. BUT the Bible says:

"We have all become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.
We all fade like a leaf.
and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away." Isa. 64:6

"as it is written:
None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God." Romans 3:10-11

"But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus." Romans 3:21-26

You can see clearly that the Bible condemns everyone! Everyone in this world has some sin, some unrighteousness, some roots of evil in their hearts. So you can try all you want to do the right thing, but even one sin will condemn you to a life without God.

So what is the solution? The simple answer is to believe that Jesus died for your sins, and rose again.

"
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

So this gift of eternal life is free. How do you find it?

"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." Romans 10:9-10

I don't know if you are actually Jewish, but if you are, that does not stop you from knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Jesus was a Jew. His disciples were Jewish. All of the early followers of Jesus were Jewish. Paul was a Jew, a Pharisee with impeccable Jewish creditals. But even he fell before Jesus and followed him on the road to Damascus. And he became the greatest evangelist the world has ever known, and wrote many of the books of the New Testament.

Paul talked about salvation and the Jews a lot! He wanted his countrymen to be saved!

"
For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." 1 Cor. 1:21-24

"
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." Romans 1:16

When Paul talks about the "Greek" it really means Gentiles - or anyone who is not a Jew. But as you can see - it doesn't matter whether you are Jewish or a Gentile. What matters is believing the gospel.

Gospel means "good news." So what is the good news? Here is one of the clearest explanations in the Bible

"Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace towards me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed." 1 Cor. 15:1-11

1. Where do the verses say that the witch summoned a familiar spirit? And didn't Samuel in this story, prophesy accurately on the behalf of the Lord to Saul? How could a familiar spirit do that? It seems like this is a made-up explanation being inserted into the text.

2. Hell as we think of it refers to gehenna/the lake of fire... which is where things go after judgement. 'Death and Hades' are even cast in, they are the former holding places of the dead. So either the judgement is an ongoing event happening -right now- with all the prerequisites already having happened, or it hasn't happened yet and no one is in hell. With that said, death and hades were considered torturous for some people even if they weren't the lake of fire.

Here is a search I did on the word "mediums" at the online Bible website (Revised Standard Version) that I use. It answers your question, I think.

Bible, Revised Standard Version

Here is an example:

Do not turn to mediums or wizards; do not seek them out, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. Lev 19:31 RSV

This is the story! It seems to say that the witch or medium actually brought Samuel up from the dead. But of course, they could have thought that, but it was really a demon. I favour demon. Although for sure, God's favour had left Saul, forever!

"3 Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his own city. And Saul had put the mediums and the necromancers out of the land.4 The Philistines assembled and came and encamped at Shunem. And Saul gathered all Israel, and they encamped at Gilboa.5 When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.6 And when Saul enquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and enquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, there is a medium at En-dor.”8 So Saul disguised himself and put on other garments and went, he and two men with him. And they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Divine for me by a spirit and bring up for me whomever I shall name to you.” 9 The woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the necromancers from the land. Why then are you laying a trap for my life to bring about my death?” 10 But Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.” 11 Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” He said, “Bring up Samuel for me.” 12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice. And the woman said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul.” 13 The king said to her, “Do not be afraid. What do you see?” And the woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.” 14 He said to her, “What is his appearance?” And she said, “An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe.” And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and paid homage.
15 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am in great distress, for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me and answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams. Therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do.” 16 And Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the Lord has turned from you and become your enemy? 17 The Lord has done to you as he spoke by me, for the Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbour, David.18 Because you did not obey the voice of the Lord and did not carry out his fierce wrath against Amalek, therefore the Lord has done this thing to you this day.19 Moreover, the Lord will give Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons shall be with me. The Lord will give the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.” 1 Sam. 28:3-19

The Bible says it was Samuel, not a demon mimicking him, so I believe in this case it was Samuel.
A brother of a friend saw his dad when he just died smile at him to say goodbye when he went to heaven.

i was always taught it was Samuel. there is nothing in the text to suggest otherwise.

Well, in my opinion...I don't see why God would need to give someone the ability to be able to do that.
We are to pray to Him for the answers we seek. If we were to talk to something else that would mean a disconnection from the Lord.
In saying that I do believe that some have the ability to speak to demons. Yes they can tell you things and it's not something I would be getting into at all. Satan will use anything he can to take your eyes away from the Lord.
