I used to attend a church people recognized as a cult, in that church the pastor told us not to watch hollywood movie because many movies are topics that God didn't like, and a lot of lyrics from worldly music is about ust, which God hates as well. Christians are supposed to boycott all hollywood movies and music and only listen to gospel music

Would you agree?

I personally don't believe in paying the world for worldly books and music. And I'll give you both sides to this.

In the garden of eden there were two trees. One was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and because of eating of this tree, death came to mankind. If it was evil in itself, why did God keep the tree around? Why didn't God get rid of it?

And there are some Christians who say that the presence of evil should not make them sin. And that is true to some extent because the second Adam came to this world and didn't sin.

But the other side of this argument is:

Romans 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

So when an R rated movie is on, do you have pleasure in them that do these things?

For the longest time I put away secular music and movies so that I could change the way I think to be a Christian. And I am on here instead of watching television. I'm in front of a computer and my bible working on doctrine. I put away that stuff and I picked up a Bible because that is where I'm supposed to spend my time.

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

How can you renew your mind, if your filling it with things that are of this world ?

Set your mind heart to things of God

Shalom

How can a Christian watch the filth that come out of Hollywood. It is the same as asking your neighbor to come have sex on your couch while we watch. It is called voyeurism

Actually I never watch television, because if there's filth in it I can't stand it. I sometimes listen to old songs, as long as it's neutral. Old movies I like too, but only clips on youtube, don't have the patience to watch the whole movie. Roman holiday wasn't bad but the ending wasn't happy. I used to be a fan of Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies. A while back I watched a clip on youtube and I had the idea it was bad. I said:God is this bad? There's no premarital sex in it, all very decent. Then somehow I saw an interview from the ex wife of Rock Hudson, how they had lied to her and set her up to marry him while he was homosexual and she was just so naive. Her whole life was ruined. She said she never watched those Doris Day movies, she couldn't. Since then I couldn't anymore either, but I'd watch a part of Calamity Jane. It's most of the time either bad or boring.
I really do like Louis de Funes, but that's not Hollywood.
Wordly music: same thing, not the new filthy stuff. Not everything is bad.

I don't think we should but I'm guilty of watching movies and shows.A lot of it is deception and to make you numb into accepting satan's lies.

Not too long ago my niece was watching my little ponies tv show and the ponys were singing about how magic was 'good',
the ponys were trusting in magic.
I found it very satanic.

Yes a lot of kid's movies are bad too. If my kids watch weird stuff I yell that they have to put it off and watch out with it. Can't stand it. They watch movies from when I was young. We came in the house of another kid. The television was on non stop with all those horrible monsters. My kid said to the mom who isn't even saved:
my mom thinks that's filth LOL.

We obviously should avoid evil

but there are movies that aren't necessarily neither bad nor Christian
(Maybe not many of them.... and I don't know which ones are from Hollywood and not)

... but if you "judge a book by it's covers" and take it too far, people might not trust your judgement. (When my mother grew up, she was told it was a sin to go to the movies.... no matter what movie.... same went for dancing :/ )

I do NOT agree. Why are we being scared little girls about pop culture? I listen to both christian music and worldly music. I watch christian films and worldly films. Why is this wrong? Must we stay innocent little naive children forever? We can watch and listen to what we please.....so long as we understand who we are. Have a core basis on your morality and standards and be willing to see and listen to things different, especially if it just happens naturally. What are you gonna do? Look like a freak and run out of the room if a rated R movie is on? Are we some kind of weirdos? No, lets watch everything and anything and have a good foundation for our faith and not be scared and run away...

Well, I wouldn't run out but i'd walk out if my conscience didn't agree with the content. I don't know what rated R means in America but in Australia R is restricted to 18+ which without a doubt means, graphic gore/violence, excessive swearing or very graphic sex scenes. It's difficult to get an R rating in Australia these days, I generally wont even bother with movies restricted to 15+ because the bar has been set so low. I don't mind a bit of action/adventure and I can tolerate some swearing. I always check imdb parents guide before watching a movie, and if I don't agree with what's reported I won't watch it, regardless how much I would like to see it (Elysium) I don't mind looking like a freak.

When I was married it was so bad. My ex would sometimes watch murder programs that really happened and I'd just walk away. He said once: this is insane. I am watching Gulliver's travels upstairs secretly so you don't see it. It's just like with my mom when I was a kid. Hahahahahahaha I used to think even Winnie the Pooh was occult. I did change a bit.
He'd say he was married to the Kijkwijzer, the Dutch Motion picture rating system.

I don't think we are supposed to living in a tiny insulated christian bubble. Worldly music well a lot of it sucks before you even get to the lyrics part of it, so whatver for that one. Christian music normally falls off at the lyrics portion since it just tends to be terribly repetitive.

As far as movies, well the bible has its own violent scenes as well, so that part never bothers me. As far as swearing or sex scenes? its just words or nudity, if either of those things are so terrifying, maybe you should go live under a rock. If youre an adult and cant view them without having a conniption fit then I feel sorry for you.

Poor Jesus, so innocent and naive. Yes I did watch the Passion of the Christ when I was backslidden, the only time I could watch it without feeling anything.

Just before Jesus' return there will be TV programs like we have never experienced. (TV had just arrived in Norway in 1968. —E. Minos)

"TV will be filled with such horrible violence that it teaches people to murder and destroy each other, and it will be unsafe in our streets. People will copy what they see. There will not be only one 'station' on TV, it will be filled with 'stations.' (She did not know the word 'channel' which we use today. Therefore she called them stations. —E. Minos.) TV will be just like the radio where we have many 'stations,' and it will be filled with violence. People will use it for entertainment. We will see terrible scenes of murder and destruction one of the other, and this will spread in society. Sex scenes will also be shown on the screen, the most intimate things that takes place in a marriage." (I protested and said, "We have a paragraph that forbids this kind of thing."*—E. Minos.) It will happen, and you will see it. All we have had before will be broken down, and the most indecent things will pass before our eyes.

Why would a Christian want to have fellowship with worldly things? Let the following Scriptures be your guide for deciding what to place before your eyes:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Phil 4:8

"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes..." Psa 101:3a

That's a great bible quote :) When I write my books it's tough sometimes to remember the point of them is to teach virtue's and not get to involved with the violence and struggle the character faces. If there is any virtue to the show I'm watching I think its okay. Other then very selective anime I watch older black and white shows. Andy Griffith Show, Rifleman older stuff that didn't rely on ultra violence and sex to be a good show.
