Im going to No Brand Con today for a friends bachelor party. I'm bringing my bible with. Does anyone recommend any certain books to read? I doubt I'll have time for the whole thing.

I have no clue what you are talking about.

I'm probably too old, and out of the loop.

Keep in focus the meaning of a bachelor party. It changes every generation. What does it mean for you? And what will focus on the groom to be as something he will remember? Sometimes it is silly, sometimes embarrassing for the groom, but always with his friends showing their support. It is usually not a bible teaching time.

What you do in your "downtime", is yours alone and can be whatever you need.

Just wanted to say -- THANK YOU! I think I was hearing cobwebs forming around my rocker and rust collecting on my abacus when I read the question. Just nice to see someone else say it.

then why not just say convention? why are the kids in such a hurry these days
I dunno. I read The Agony and the Ecstasy many many years ago, and what I always remember of it is how much time people spent every single day looking after the needs of each day, shopping for food, preparing food, etc, I guess that is usually thought of as women's work LOL, but the thing is, that there was never any rest from it for most people, it was more than a full time job like with moms today whether they are working or not, their work is never done. Point being, kids have everything done for them, life is handed to them on a silver platter as it were, they take things for granted, and while we wanted them to have a better life than we did, somehow it translated into them taking shortcuts and having unrealistic expectations and thinking they can play fast and loose with things like language, which admittedly has some plasticity to it but still, now everything has to have some snappy name attached to it... Gosh, do I sound like an old person talking? Never mind :p

The more our modern conveniences give us leisure
the more trouble we get into with it seeking pleasure.
I guess that is hedonism. Conventions of such sorts
are a relatively new thing as far as I know.
Maybe we can blame Star Trek?

My first thoughts were, they are going to see a con-- as in "convict" or "ex-con" which could mean a lot of things. One thing I like about Bernie Sanders, except that I could not vote for him because of his views on termination of the unborn, is that he said that "Mass incarceration" will be over if he gets elected. He would release 2.2 million people, who don't belong there anyway, which would save $80 Billion which is in response to the failed war on drugs, which destroyed people's lives over sometimes minor offenses in the name of corrupt, legalistic justice. IT's a great thing that, as well as the end of "mass-incarceration," suffering people are being referred to treatment, which is where they belonged in the first place.

But, the world is still an insane place of erratic laws. Be aware at this bachelor party that drugs may be circulating. If people need drugs to have a good time, it's probably not a bachelor party you should be going to. Bachelor parties can be pretty silly, and can get a prospective groom into trouble through temptations. Your job as a Christian could be to protect the groom from craziness that could threaten his marriage.

Um. I don't know what you're talking about (save for the last two sentences). Monnkai is talking about attending a popular culture convention. Probably anime-focused by the sound of things. People dress up as their favourite characters, lots of merchandise is sold, people listen to panels and watch early screenings of anime. That sort of thing.

Just remember GOD looks at your motivation for taking a bible to a party.
Couldn't you carry one In your pocket just In case a door opens for you to help a soul hear/understand the WORD.:)

Sorry for the late reply I was so busy there I didn't have time to log into the internet. A con is short for Convention. Anime, Video games, Cosplay, Japanese comics and candy. Nerd stuff.
