Luke 9:23-24 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. "

Now take a look at Jesus teachings, His teachings, teach us how to lay our selves down and follow Him. The greatest Love is sacrifice for others. to lay down self is the teachings of Jesus. to follow the teachings of Jesus is to lose your life for His sake and find it. we lose our lives by following His ways and not our own. by "conforming to His likeness" through accepting His truth, and applying His words to our thought life knowing He is right according to God. Jesus teachings teach us to follow His path of laying His self down. there are a lot of other examples......anyone know any?

Taking up our cross is simply identifying with the work of Christ in our lives as we were crucified with Him on the cross.

We can also believe in the gospel that our old man is dead and that we have been raised to newness of life because of our union with Christ now. We are a new creation in Christ - created in righteousness and holiness.

Learning who we are in Christ now transforms us to be outwardly who we really are in our inner man.

People that are dead do not have to die to themselves anymore.

Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
[SUP]20[/SUP] I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Colossians 3:1-3 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

[SUP]3 [/SUP] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

We are transformed by the Holy Spirit by beholding Christ as in a mirror. When we look at Christ - we see ourselves as we are In Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

[SUP]18 [/SUP] But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit
.

Being transformed = present passive This means that we are transformed by the Holy Spirit work within us - passive means something is happening to you from another source - you are not doing it.

( with our renewed mind we can participate in this transformation by accepting it )

A good place to add onto what you said so well, is Romans chapter 6. Romans 6 speaks about how we ought to model the gospel as a way of life. So many truths to glean from the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and apply to our own lives.

Under the new covenant I want to know how to be a SON and a sheep of His pasture. Jesus already laid Himself down for His sheep and the sheep's work is to rest and follow. When we follow by faith., Jesus will work. He will live His life through me when I trust and believe what He says and did. To walk by faith means thinking by faith., listening by faith., seeing by faith. (not by sight) Finding out about Jesus and allowing Him to live His life through me.

We lay down our ideas (our reality) of seeing by sight and instead we see (His reality) by faith. We will not lose our lives this way., we will find life this way.

(repenting) is putting my ways of thinking and being aside. Then taking His ways instead.., by believing and then being conformed into His image by faith in Him and His finished work.

It is by the obedience of faith. I cannot be changed on the outside until I see Him by faith on the inside.

[TD="colspan: 3, align: left"]When Jesus was on the cross, He did more than just die for your sins. His one sacrifice did not just remove your sins, but it also clothed you in His righteousness and perfection. Jesus became the true “burnt sacrifice”.

In the Old Testament, whenever someone offered a burnt sacrifice, the perfection of the animal came on him. In the same way, every perfect attribute of Jesus your “burnt sacrifice” comes on you when you take Him as your Savior. And because God sees you clothed with Christ, you have the same acceptance and favor with Him that Jesus has!

When Jesus was offered on the cross, the fire of God brought out His perfections like perfume to God. In that one sacrifice, Jesus’ obedience and perfections rose as “a sweet aroma to the Lord”, which is what is emitted when the offering is burnt. This “sweet aroma” speaks of a savor of rest to God. Jesus’ perfect sacrifice gave God so much satisfaction that He rested.

You can also rest in the perfect sacrifice of Jesus, knowing that what He did, He did for you—“Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma”. (Ephesians 5:2) You can rest knowing that God the Father is satisfied with you because His Son’s sacrifice has caused His heart to rest with regard to you. You can rest because Jesus is God’s satisfaction for you.

Today, as you come before God, say, “Father, I thank You that Jesus is such a delight and joy to You. He satisfies Your heart completely. And what He did, He did for me. Because Jesus so satisfies You, I know that You are satisfied with me. Because Jesus is Your delight, I am also Your delight.

Because Jesus so pleases You, I know I please You too. And because Jesus is my righteousness and perfection, I stand righteous and perfect before You.”

Beloved, when you speak of Christ and His finished work, it goes up to God as a sweet-smelling aroma, a savor of rest. And if God can rest in the perfect sacrifice of His Son, you can too!

There is never a reason to try to avoid saying Gods will is to do what he says to do. Grace is not only forgiveness weve had this talk 10 times. grace is not everything. Jesus is everything. He is Grace, and He is truth also. grace makes you new, you are a disciple when you are doing the things Jesus teaches you to do. yes faith saves us, faith without action is dead, its biblivcal. The super grace stuff is good, but its incomplete. without accepoting " I am required to obey Jesus Christ, He is not Lord to you" your Lord is the one you follow. theres no way for anyone ever to say that we Christians aren't supposed to follow Jesus teachings. I don't care really who thinks what honestly, I know what I know because Jesus has changed my life. I'm not here to debate. saved by grace never having to do what God says to do, will lead to hell, its a deception. its dangerous to take it as complete. obedience to Jesus is not deniable, not to anyone who actually knows the word of God. Grace no grace whatever you want to call it, if a person will not follow Jesus teachings, they are not in Christ. Yes He gets all the credit for making us righteous, but we are obligated to follow Jesus. once you know its all by grace.......its time to do what your supposed to do. Gotta do what God says. there is absolutely no valid argument against doing Gods will. I'm tired of every different thing coming back to " I don't have to follow Jesus" yes, we have to follow Jesus. give Him glory in every way, but if you wont do what he says according to Jesus himself, you do not Love him and will not inherit the promises for His disciples. grace is good. all glory to God, now lets do what Jesus taught

It is by the obedience of faith. I cannot be changed on the outside until I see Him by faith on the inside. We love Him ONLY because He first loved us. Apart from Him we can do and be nothing. Even as a believer if things are done apart from faith in Him; it is nothing. It is putting your ladder up against a building and finding years later, your ladder when you get to the top, was against the wrong building.

Who says not to follow Jesus? Knowing Jesus is everything! We live now by His life inside of us. It would appear you have a mis-understanding about the grace of Christ and our new creation in Christ.

We want to do things pleasing to our Lord by living His life that is in and through us to a hurt and dying world and to our fellow brethren as well.

We are to fix our hope completely on the grace of Christ that is being brought to us as we get a revelation of Him.

1 Peter 1:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Grace teaches us how to live in this world.

Titus 2:11-12 (NASB)
[SUP]11 [/SUP] For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
[SUP]12 [/SUP] instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,

We need the grace of Christ as it is the word of His grace that builds us up in Him in order to walk pleasing to Him from an exchanged life. Faith in what Christ has already done is what pleases God. Hebrews 11:6

Acts 20:32 (NASB)
[SUP]32 [/SUP] "And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

Amen....obedience is a part of the New Covenant but it is sourced and motivation is different than the Old Covenant. We obey because of the life of Christ that is in us.

That is the root of obedience not that we "create" our salvation by "doing things". We do - because of who we are in Christ now not out of an Old Covenant mindset that says - OBEY or else.

Works-based salvationists operate from the mindset of the Old Covenant - you do in order to get.

Grace-based believing operate from the exchanged heart from being in Christ and His fruit is flowing in and through us. It's all to do with Christ and His life that is in us now because we are one with Him.

The just shall live by faith in what Jesus already accomplished for us. This is the stumbling block for work-based mindsets. The gospel of the grace of Christ is very offensive to the Old Covenant mindset.

Life now is seeing Christ IN you...the hope (assurance) of glory. Seeing Jesus IN us daily is the calling. When you are IN Christ you will reflect Him., let this MIND be in YOU. It's not concentrating on the works you will do., it's concentrating on the Savior and HE will do the works IN and through you.

Seeing the righteousness of Christ IS a daily thing. We are the righteousness of God IN Christ. The daily goal is to see Christ IN us. To put our faith in His finished work so I no longer put faith in MY finished work. It's watching Jesus live His life in me as I walk by faith and not by sight.

If we don't see His righteousness in us daily, we will be totally off. We are alive to be sons of God., called into the Beloved. Sheep of His pasture. The action is to believe daily who you are IN Christ.

Many saved believers, few disciples...

Amen....preaching the true gospel of the grace of Christ will produce real disciples living from His life inside of them as they grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus our Lord.

He is the Vine - we are the branches...He bears His fruit in us branches from His life flowing in and through us...without Him we can do nothing.

Acts 14:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] After they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch,

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
(Luke 14:26)
And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
(Luke 14:27)
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
(Luke 14:33)

Christ makes it plain and clear, so that we need not to ask any other, but only need to listen to Him, and accept what He says, especially since it is His Word that shall judge us in the last day.

They left everything and followed Him,KJV.Luke5;10-11,10.And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.11.And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed Him.

1.It means giving up all things that we desire according to the flesh, that is not God approved, and only going by the leading of the Spirit, and what God wants for us.

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Joh 14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Joh 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

2.Although we live for Jesus, and obey Him somewhat,we think we still get kind of a say so in what we want, like our career,or where we live, and such, because we think God leaves that up to us,but nay,we do not.Everything we do is for the kingdom of God,led by the Spirit, and if God says pack up your things, quit your job,and move to this place,we have to do it,for we have to go wherever the Spirit directs us,and do whatever the Spirit wants us to do.

But of course God also knows you have to be stable, and will provide your needs,no matter where you are led to go,but for the most part, and the majority of people,God would have you stay where you are at,because saints should be in all areas, and because of their family situation, that it is rough for some with an extended family, and they also might hasving an impact there, and there is always someone God can send.

Jas 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Jas 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Jas 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

Jesus' cross, was the cross, and preaching the Gospel, that was His purpose,to direct people to God,and open up the kingdom of God,to people, that God had for Him to do.

Taking up our cross,is to do whatever purpose God has for us to do,like Mary had her cross, giving birth to Jesus, and Paul had his cross, reaching out to the Gentiles, and so forth.

We take up our cross, and do whatever purpose God has for us,which we cannot take up Jesus' cross, and die on the cross,we cannot take up Mary's cross, and give birth to Jesus,we cannot take up Paul's cross, and do the great work that he did among the Gentiles.

Everybody must take up their own cross, and deny the world, and do whatever purpose God has for you, which God might leave you alone,to live in a small city, for you have a great impact there, but some He might send them off to a foreign country,to work greatly among them.

Plainly it is denying whatever we want, and doing whatever purpose God has for us.

Taking up our cross is simply identifying with the work of Christ in our lives as we were crucified with Him on the cross.
This is like saying going to war is just joining the army and marching on the parade ground. Everyone can do this, it is just like going on a walk.

The cross is a symbol of profound sacrifice and dedication to love and the life of others. If it is was just following Jesus and saying Jesus has redeemed me, it would never have the resonance it does in reality.

What astounds me is how powerful words can be down played to the point of being meaningless while words like in Matt about being perfect like God in loving your enemies becomes being perfect in everything in your life as a condemning goal of the impossibility of walking in righteousness and purity.

It sounds like selective focus, and playing agreement with a teacher or viewpoint without accepting what is real and true.
I know I have said the 100's of times but people wish to hold to their perspective even though the apostles teach otherwise.

We are going through acts, and it is obvious the early church before Pauls conversion was 100% jewish, and the gospel was viewed as a fulfillment of the law and the prophets and not its abolition. The gospel of grace is always seen in this perspective

Why would we have to deny ourselves whatever we want??
