So the new heaven and new earth will come , who will live in the new heaven and who will live in the new earth ????
Revelation 21:3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”…

I don't think the Earth will be scorched with flames. We make a giant hoopla about flames, all through the Bible, consuming anything and everything, when I don't think such a literal interpretation was ever God's intent. After all, the rocks, birds, bunnies, and trees never did anything wrong, and aren't sinful.

Malachi 4:3"You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing," says the LORD of hosts.

2 Peter 3
The Day of the Lord

1Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.

[SUP]2 [/SUP]I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

[SUP]4 [/SUP]They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

[SUP]5 [/SUP]But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.

[SUP]6 [/SUP]By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.

[SUP]7 [/SUP]By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
[SUP]
8
[/SUP]But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

[SUP]9 [/SUP]The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[SUP][a][/SUP]
[SUP]
11
[/SUP]Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives

[SUP]12 [/SUP]as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[SUP][b][/SUP] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
[SUP]
14
[/SUP]So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

[SUP]15 [/SUP]Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

[SUP]16 [/SUP]He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
[SUP]
17
[/SUP]Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.

[SUP]18 [/SUP]But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

The earth was created by God to remain forever.
Psalm 78:69,104:5,119:90
God is a Creator of purpose and will have His purpose come true. Isaiah 46:10;55:11,Genesis 1:28,1:31-2:2
The law God gave on the tree of knowledge of good and bad implied man could live forever on earth.
The earth has been well equipped by God to care for man. Genesis 8:22
God's purpose for the earth is uttered many times in both the Greek and Hebrew Scriptures. Psalm 37:11,115:16,Isaiah 45:18, Revelation 21:3,4

The seventh day-God's day of rest continues. The seventh day has been set aside as sacred to Jehovah and to carry out His purpose towards the earth in that day, with no necessity of creative works during that time. Hebrews 3:7-11;4:3-9

While discussing this scripture, Psalms 34:16, the question came up, "Why would God remove the wicked from the earth, and then turn around and destroy it?" 2 Peter 3:7 & 10
I decided I would put the question out to others, and see what others say on it.
Isayah 24:1-6, "Behold, YHWH makes the earth empty and makes it waste, perverts the face of it and scatters abroad its inhabitants; And it will be: as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his owner; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with him who takes usury, so with him who gives usury to him: The land will be utterly emptied and utterly plundered, for YHWH has spoken this word. The earth mourns and fades away, the world mourns and fades away, and the haughty people of the earth languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants of it, because they have transgressed the Laws, changed the ordinance, and broken the everlasting covenant. Because of this, the curse has devoured the earth, and they who dwell therein are desolate; therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left."

Matt 24:21-2, "For then will be great tribulation, such as has not come to pass since the beginning ofthe world to this time--no, nor ever will be. And unless those days were shortened, there would no flesh be saved; but for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened."
