Someone recently used this passage in another thread and it got me thinking.

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. (Joh 21:25).

Just think if we were to rely on oral tradition rather than what God in His mercy had had written down for our learning and edification?
We don't have a scintilla of all the 'other things' which Jesus did ...and that info would have filled the world and then some.
So just think what would have happened if the apostles had not had their eye witness accounts WRITTEN down.

This sliver of light we have in His written Word may be small in comparison to all that Jesus did while on earth...but it is a SURE WORD.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
(2Pe 1:19)

Since Jesus is responsible for the creation of the universe and at every moment is holding everything together, for in Him we live and move and have our being, can you imagine all the truly stellar things Jesus Christ is doing right now on a cosmic scale, let alone in our little lives as He causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him? Our God is an awesome God!

Well put. Maybe others could put it better, bu well said.
By the way, what's 'scintilla' {I hope I am not swearing}. Is that a made up word?

Yes, we can 'imagine'. But 'imagine' how many false teachings there would be if we did not have God's written Word.
Let's say the Prophets (OT) and the Apostles only spoke what they saw Jesus do at that time and nothing was written. Even though it would be enough to cover the world in books can you 'imagine' all the twisted lies about Jesus/Gospel/Salvation we would be facing 2000 years later if we had to depend on what prophet Bob said, or Church tradition or Dolly's dreams etc?

Look carefully at the verse. It says everything He "DID" was not written down.

It does not say everything He SAID was not written. And it does not say everything He TAUGHT was not written down.

This verse is talking about things Jesus did like eating or sleeping.

Everything Jesus taught WAS written down.

TOO many people use this verse to justify their doctrines that are not in the Scriptures. The Catholic Church loves to quote this verse to prove their teaching also have the truth in them.

Not only that. They would have all be killed, if God allowed. Hence the truth would be completely lost, As you said, "What an awesome God!" But I am more fascinated with god's wisdom... after his love. Much to talk about.

I find it extremely hard to believe that what was written down in the gospels was all that Jesus spoke in His life with the disciples. I'm positive that He spoke a lot about different things then what was written down. The Holy Spirit inspired the authors of the gospels to write down what He wanted to tell them in their gospels so we are good to go with the words of Jesus deemed necessary for us in our time now.

There is also this one in John 20:30 & 31

In the Book of John, Jesus is presented to us as the very Son of God, and the entire book is to instruct each of us of our duties and commitments as sons (daughters) of God. Our seed planting and teaching others should be done in Jesus Christ's way, as He taught and as His Spirit leads us in our lives and service for Him.

John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written, Amen.

The Book of John was written to show us the deity of Jesus Christ. He is the promised Messiah that was prophesied from the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3:15. John starts His Gospel leaving no doubt that "Jesus and the Father are one", and Jesus is the very Word of God from the beginning. He was the creator, and is one with the Father, for Jesus Himself stated, "I and My Father are one." [John 10:30] Jesus also stated, "When you have seen Me you have seen the Father."

Jesus made it very clear that the purpose of His coming to this earth was to fulfill prophecy from the Word that was given by God. Jesus was on a mission to go to the cross to pay the price for sin, once and for all times. In fulfilling that mission, all mankind now has the right to seek eternal life, and there is only one way that this could be done. That way is through your repentance, in Jesus name, and believing on Jesus Christ, that He is truly the Son of God.

Without a man's repentance, he is lost and without hope, but the instant He repents of his sins in Jesus name, the Holy Spirit of God enters into his soul, and he [his soul] becomes a new man. Jesus points out that He will not interfere with your plans, for you have to make that choice, that is what free will is all about. However, there are many that are of the elect, chosen from before the foundation of this earth age to fulfill a purpose in God's plan.

One other note to remember; when you look at each of the miracles that Jesus did, we saw that there was a definite purpose to each of His miracles. The changing of water to wine, the breaking of the bread in the feeding of the thousands, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead was to defy the traditions of the Kenite religious leaders of that day.

From the time Jesus ministry started, Satan was at His heels in the wilderness with many temptations. The Kenite religious leaders plotted Jesus death from the very start because Jesus defied their traditions that made a lie of the Word of God. They sought to kill Him, and they succeeded, because what they meant for evil, was all part of God's plan, and our victory of eternal life through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Friend, it doesn't matter what sins you have committed, there is forgiveness by God when you repent of those sins in Jesus name and believe on Jesus Christ. Just talk to Him like you would talk to a close friend, for He is your friend, the best friend that you will ever have. He loves you and offers you eternal life for your soul. That is a gift that no one can take from you, and with it, He gives peace of mind.

Christianity is a reality, not a religion (man made) because we serve the Living God. HalleluYAH - praise ye the LORD!

That's what the text says. No, I guess I am making a case for Sola Scriptura.
We have according to John, tons of stuff Jesus said and did that were not recorded.
My point is that we know nothing of those things for sure except what was recorded as found in Scripture.

I agree with sola.... but it is fun to speculate on all the other things Jesus said, and did. I bet he laughed a lot....

I can't wait to see Him face to face.....

Hmm.... I've got a wooden nickle for some of this....no, I don't think the apostles wrote down everything Jesus said, I truly don't.... I go back to John 3:11-12. He was speaking to Nicodemus. It's interesting how he said "our witness". Yes I know the majority of folks will say the "our" is Jesus and the Father, or maybe Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It also says Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, obviously he didn't want anyone else to know. Jesus was never without the disciples, so that tells me they had to be there when he showed up. Cause right after that it says he and the disciples arrived in Judea. Now, if you saw a pharisee show up to see Jesus are you gonna just hang back and not wonder what's going on? I think Jesus told them some real intense stuff and either they were told not to tell or it was so heavy they didn't know how to explain it

Jesus told the disciples the Holy Spirit would be with them to remind them what to write. So anything they didn't write could be assumed to be by deliberate design...

"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

or maybe there weren't enough scrolls or books to hold all he did. it leaves an immeasurable quality about Him reading this verse I think, and He truly is beyond measure
