I had a friend who went to church and hated rapists and murderers like most do.

But he said that if a murderer is unrepentant clearly and refuses to acknowledge their wrong, then we should not just put them in prison but rather torture them every day for the rest of their life. He felt that we not only should do this but that we should use medicines and stuff so that we can take the murderer to the furtherest amount of pain possible and yet keep them alive.

What are your thoughts, Good idea and why or bad idea and why?

oh by the way, he suggested that we should make a prison that can do this mechanically. in other words a human does not need to sit and watch or do it physically themselves. some kind of automatic torture prison.

I think restraint is wiser than unrestrained sadism. Such persons should be made to labor the entirety of their incarceration to support any that they have offended.

Your friend ... is clearly controlled by the devil and no better than a murderer or rapist himself... He needs God in his life...

Gotime, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. That sounds like an idea that was only ever slightly accepted in the Middle Ages. I haven't ever seen such violence encouraged by Jesus. I would encourage you to start a more indepth discussion with your friend. It is important to discover what is supporting such a view. And then providing the clear biblical support that counters it. I think this is the time for a sniper rifle, not a shotgun. Hit the spot, not just the general area.

Do you just want to see how many of us would agree so you can laugh? Clearly torture is against the Law to love. Unfortunately to their own embarrassment some would take your bait and get eaten alive.

Bad idea, for a Christian should not get involved with such things, and not support such things, for a Christian is to love, and not want any harm to come to any person, them being locked up,and away from society should be good enough, and if they do not turn to God,they will have to answer to Him,which it is a fearful thing to fall in to the hands of the living God,why should we add to the misery.

God even told the saints to feed, and clothe, their enemies, showing how much the saints are not to condone the hurting of anyone, and if they hit one cheek, turn the other cheek to them, and say,is that all you got, only kidding about the is that all you got part, although if I am alive when the beast makes war against the saints, when they persecute me,if it ever came to that,I probably will say that,is that all you got, because it does not make any difference at that time whether you are silent,or you are mouthy, they will be so bent on going against the Christians, that there is no bargaining with them,or finding mercy with them,or getting out of it,but of course God might not want me to say,is that all you got,as to maintain goodness in the face of my enemies, and not be mouthy.

Those are some of the longest run on sentences I think Ive seen in awhile:p

I agree with everything you said ! Except of course:
although if I am alive when the beast makes war against the saints, when they persecute me,
Those in Christ > the church > are not here in that time. We are out of here. The church is not mentioned after rev 3.

Isn't that what God does to sinners for all eternity? If the shoe fits I suppose.

What your friend is doing is kicking God off His throne saying that he will take over judging- that is worse than murders or rapists! We can observe that something is right or wrong, and that there are rewards and consequences, but they are not ours to dish out! And God says if we judge others that we will be judged in the same strength and measure. Therefore, your friend is asking God to torture him to the max amount of pain God can inflict on him for each one of his sins.

If we do not forgive, we will not be forgiven. This does not mean that they get away with what they've done, it means that you are not the One Who will dish it out. But let's just imagine for a moment that you were the one, what could you possibly do worse than torturing them with fire for all eternity and they can never even die to escape it, ever? BUT if God judges you for judging him, you will be right there beside him for all eternity, and beside Satan and all his followers. Or, you can forgive and admit you are not their Judge, and let God do His job. Trust me, He IS in control. No one gets away with anything from the all-knowing God Who judges even the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Tell your friend there is no greater sin that one can do than to torture and kill Jesus Christ- which his sins did (everyone's sins did). And what did He say WHILE it was happening? He asked God to forgive them. Leave room for God's wrath, it's coming for a reason.

Your 'friend' is a psychopath with delusions of grandeur, and probably not fit to have small animals and certainly not be left alone with children.

Sounds like some kind of sadist. Torture is no way to get a person to repent. And torturing someone until they admit their wrong violates the constitution.

"And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing. And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? So Pilate delivered Jesus... when he had scourged him, to be crucified" (Mark 15). That's why its a dangerous proposition to torture someone until you get your desired answer... There's a reason ultimate judgement is God's domain.

No, He does not. Sadly, a lot of Christians, and most of the unsaved world believe like this as well. God does not do such to sinners for all eternity..........THEY MADE THAT CHOICE all by their lonesome!

RE: OP........

You said your friend WENT to church, you said nothing about your friend being a Christian. Mayhaps if they were a Christian and had a personal relationship with God, their ideas might change?

If a sinner had a good hard, long, look at Dante's Inferno, the eternal torture men hold to, do you really believe they would CHOOSE it?

Well He made the place didn't He? The place of eternal torment and fire I mean. When a man is put on death row, the judge who put him there didn't build the electric chair did he? Or did he?

Good morning Sirk. Scripture promises death to those who do not accept the propitiatory sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf, that those who believe on Him might pass from death to life. Death is the promised outcome of sin from Genesis onward. A more abundant life, which Jesus offers, sounds very attractive. This sinful world and the fallen state of man has polluted and distorted everything.
