Does God ever stop convicting a believer of his or her sins as a way of strengthening the Christian's faith or to test their loyalty to God? Also, can conviction become something that a Christian doesn't hear anymore if that person goes through a period of backsliding?

On a personal note; I have not been to church in a very long time because of my job. I may have also neglected prayer in my life as well. I use to feel a pluck in my mind whenever I was thinking about (or about to do) or say something I shouldn't. There are also certain sins that I use to indulge in prior to my conversion that are resurfacing again and are tempting me more than ever. I want to restore my daily walk and grow closer to the Lord, but every time I try to lately, something tells me that I have gone too far.

it seems that the more one distances themselves from God or those who serve and love Him,
the further they will back-track into the world that we are supposed to hate...

Priorities and Decisions and Overcomings are our everyday challenges,
and we will never make the right choices unless we seek for and stay on
an intimate journey with our Creator and Saviour...

you are in our prayers...

Hi MidwesternGirl,
Something that has occurred to me is that you say that at one time you felt a pluck in your mind and yet even though you feel that you perhaps have backslid and that is the reason why you don't feel that "pluck" any longer, but sister i want to encourage you that are you not still mindful? You have listed of not going to church due to work, neglected prayer and these sins which you recognize as such.....To me you are still mindful of the Father and i think if i may be so bold in understanding that the "pluck" was for your benefit when you were young in the Lord and the reason you have not recieved it now is why do you need it? Are you not still mindful? To encourage you further i will end with this the Lord said that the Comforter, Helper, Holy Spirit of God will FOREVER abide in you, and the Lord Jesus stated the He will never leave or forsake you....So forever be mindful of these two things in all you do and say in this life and you will be that faithful and good servant take care, and God Bless You sister!

No, you have not gone too far. If you want to return, that is GOD working in you to do so. Acknowledge your failings to GOD. That is the first step. He forgives you.

One of the holy spirit's job is to convict us our sin, so I don't think that ever stops. However, we can become dull and not hear the spirit's voice.

I recommend prayerfully reading the bible on a regular basis, with a heart asking GOD for understanding and mercy. The living word is what transforms us giving us the heart and mind of Christ that knows to stay away from sin. The bible witnesses what that will is.

Dear Midwesterngirl,

Your post drips with sadness ... your heart bleeds and cries. You clearly miss the close relationship with the Lord and He misses your company very much as well. Draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to you. Everything in your post shows you know this.

Why are you resisting? Who or what would tell you that drawing near to the Lord is going too far? Stop listening to that voice ... you know what you have to do.

Peace n Love~
