I haven't been in public school for quite a while but even back then astronomy was hardly taught.
I can't imagine it today except from the angle of 'Don't pollute our solar system'.
This may be a reason it is not emphasized as it should...
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
(Rom 1:19-20)
He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.
(Job 26:7)
Psa 8:1 O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Thy name in all the earth, Who hast displayed Thy splendor above the heavens!
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
(Psa 19:1)
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
(Psa 33:6)
Isa 40:22 It is He who sits above the vault of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Psa 50:6 And the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is judge. Selah.
Jer 10:12 It is He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom; And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.
Give little Johnny too close a look at astronomy and he might start doubting his own 'evolutionary existence'.
