It's a lot easier to trust the Lord when we are behaving ourselves.

Is that because we believe we somehow earned God's love by behaving?

I have found that it's easier to trust God when you realize nothing you can do can make the situation better...if we think some how we can do or help...we have a hard time letting go and trusting that God will take care of it.

I think we are better off when we obey the Lord's commandments.

I know if people focused on following Jesus, they would not worry so much about the commandments but see how their life already fulfills them through their acts of service and love.

But I think part of following Jesus is doing what he told us to do.

I agree with your sentiments. I see all the dysfunction described in the Family Forum, and I just think to myself, "Why don't you just behave yourselves?" It's really not that hard -- God makes it easy -- just focus on Him and your path will be made easy. Remember, Jesus said, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Maybe not totally easy all the time, but I sure am happier when I'm behaving myself than when I'm not.

That's cuz God isn't chastening you if you listen to what He tells you to do, so you are more joyful.

Sometimes God ask me to do,things and it's easier to pretend not to hear, but that never works out too well.

It's easier not to talk to perfect strangers about God. It's easier to ignore the crying and screaming people and just eat lunch. It's easier to watch movies than spend hours praying or reading the Bible....but sometimes like eating your veggies...God asks us to do things for our good we might not find easy.

Reminds me of Jonah. He had a little trouble, also.

Hopefully I won't have to jump into a stormy sea and live in the belly of a whale.

yes, then we don't have to deal with cognitive dissonance !

.. e.g. "trusting Him" while we're not really "trusting Him"

Maybe we should all carry flashlights, just in case.
maybe not a bad idea --

everybody knows that darkness flees from light; not the other way around!

What makes you think that - when the time came - God wouldn't see to it that the batteries failed... :p ;)
would that be something like "having enough oil" and "keeping those lamps trimmed and burning" ?

;)

I just never think of it as "behaving myself". Because if you are really abiding in Christ and loving/worshiping his presence, all else just falls into place.

And even when I act in a Christian way, it is just Jesus expressing himself through me. Cause we are one.

No - that would be something like -- if God wanted you to experience the dark belly of a whale, he would see to it that you had no working light with you when you were swallowed by the whale...

Just a light-hearted-but-'pointed' - "joke" - about - God-will-get-his-way - no-matter-what-we-do.

( I know - you were also doing the same type of thing, albeit "in a different direction" - so-to-speak... )

Indeed, I too am happy when I feel I've been "good" ... but I have seen a strange thing at work ... when I fail or fall short then I am humbled and God blesses me in great ways.

So does that mean I TRY to fall short so I can be blessed? No. But when I do fall short, and am feeling low ... I look forward to God picking me up. :)

He did not come for the righteous, but for the sinner ...
