Interesting question, how does one betray someone by telling the truth, and how did the events which occurred betray what predesignated to occur.

The word betray is "didomi" or can also mean betrayal. It literally means "to hand over" a person or thing. Jesus was handed over to Caiaphas and the Sanhdrin by Judas. Then handed over to Pilate by Caiaphas. A double betrayal. The implications are daunting and nefarious.

A young pastor confided a pretty bad, though not illegal habit to me, with the understanding I would remain a trusted advisor/sounding board. Had I gone to the board telling it because it was in fact the truth, then I would be telling the truth by being untruthful to the man. I would then be a certified gossiper, my sin worse than his. There's a lot more wrong to do something like that, as should be obvious. As to my responsibility, I had to first deal with the problem one on one once I was agreeable, not bringing anyone else into the matter until giving the man a chance to do the right thing, letting him be the one to require escalation among peers.

Judas knew the high priest wanted Jesus out of his way, would likely take opportunity to assemble the guard in the night, then go arrest Jesus, regardless of the Law. Judas knew Jesus didn't spend nights in town, but camped out away from crowds. Most Jews would not be walking around in the night, so he and his disciples had some degree of safety. Even so Jesus expected the men to stay vigilant, the typical arrangement to have rotating shifts.

Judas knew the campsite, and knew the monetary potential of revealing it. He should have kept the secret, but instead became a party to murder, as prophesied 750 years or so before that event. God didn't order that up, but knew it would happen. Jesus knew i would, and knew when it was to begin, telling Judas to go do his thing quickly. That wasn't his approval of the action.

Once the process began, it could not be stopped even if Judas truly repented. That's a terrible side effect of sin, how it can beget more sins.

Couldn't God have predetermined before the world was made that no betrayal was necessary, that Jesus might have better surrendered to the high priest at the Temple? Sure. But he didn't, letting fallen human nature go all the way through deadly betrayal of their very Savior.

daunting and nefarious yes, even more so when I think back and remember the
many times I betrayed, ignored, shunned Him myself...I would never be able
to live day-by-day without the assurance of His gracious, forgiving, Love for me...

making the transition from my 'old-life' has been the most incredible challenge ever
imaginable to the human mind until this very day...
I now only live to honor, please and serve my Master, Saviour, and Lord...
(this is miracle stuff)

total surrender has been a slow process for me over the years, with so many aches and pains
along the way - if He hadn't mixed-in the saving gifts of Spiritual joy and laughter, I know
without a doubt that I would have failed Him and died the common death...
TITUS 1:16.
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him,
being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

1PETER 1:13-14-15-16.
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace
that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I Am holy.

my Heavenly Father has taught me how to embrace and honor the Grace He has given to me -
and how to run with it until my race is over...
I Praise His Holy Name.....

I suspect we've all betrayed Jesus at some point or other. When he walked the earth, he cured so many people. Did they stand by him in his moment of need?

I do not understand how Jesus was double betrayed,for to be betrayed it would seem like you would have to be in league with someone,and go by their agenda,and then go against them at some time in the future,which Judas Iscariot was a disciple,and then went against Jesus.

But Caiaphas was an enemy of Christ.

Like the Bible says that people will betray those that are their family,and kinsfolk,and friends,because they are in league with each other,but then they go against each other.

I do not think you can betray someone who is your enemy,and you are not in league with them,and their agenda,but against them.

I do not want to get technical,but we should stick to the language that we all agreed on,but I am only kidding.
