1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer:
and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

There is one showing eternal life abides in or does not in one

I once had a Catholic priest tell me that the Greek word for "know" in 1 John 5:13 does not necessarily equate to absolute certainty.

Well remember, Joseph knew his wife (but really he did not) so can we actually trust them in anything?

1 John 5:11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
Do you know what it means "to have the Son"?

We can't really understand Eternal Life. No matter how we try to slice it, any time we think of doing something forever it seems more like a sentence than a gift.

What we really do understand is that everything good, all of our blessings, come from the Lord Jesus Christ. His Presence. That's what we desire and understand.

Where He is, that's where we want to be. We can understand it fully maybe later... Maybe that's what faith is all about.

Speaking of eternal life. I heard a definition of eternity and having eternal life and it went like this.

"Take a diamond the size of the sun...and every 1 million years a dove flies by and brushes it with it's wing. By the time friction has worn down that diamond to the size of a pea - eternity and our eternal life will have just begun."

We have a wonderful salvation in our Lord! We should be full of joy!

I'll take a stab at it with scripture...

The son does remain forever in the house.

John 8:35-36 (NASB)
[SUP]35 [/SUP] "The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.

[SUP]36 [/SUP] "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

Once we are in Christ - we become sons/daughters of God.

Galatians 3:26 (NASB)
[SUP]26 [/SUP] For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 4:6-7 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"

[SUP]7 [/SUP] Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

1 John 3:1-2 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

I encourage us to start to believe in the gospel of the grace of Christ. It is "good news".

If we see ourselves as children of God we will walk as children of our Father and our true nature in our new creation will transform our minds to reflect that nature outwardly in our behavior powered by the Spirit of God inside of us.

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for
evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Rev 1:18

Jesus said to her,"I am the resurrection and the life. He
who believes in Me will live, even though he dies."
John 11:25

For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot
die again; death no longer has dominion over Him.
Romans 6:9

For this reason Christ died and returned to life, so that He might
be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
Romans 14:9

the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

God does not tell us we have to understand it completely. Just have faith that it is true.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life..."

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:4

And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

Eternal life is often mistaken for immortality. The two are not the same.

Immortality is a physical kind of life that has to do with a superhuman body
impervious to age, death, and putrefaction.

Eternal life, on the other hand, isn't a physical kind of life; it's a spirit kind of
life; which is why it's possible for people to obtain eternal life before they
obtain immortality.

For example: Christ had eternal life when he was here (John 5:26, 1John
1:1-2) but according to Rom 6:9 and Rev 1:18, he didn't obtain immortality
till he rose from the dead.

Likewise Christ's believing followers have eternal life while they're here
(John 5:24) but according to Rom 8:23-25 and 1Cor 15:51-53, they won't
obtain immortality until their resurrections.

Humans are a physical species of life.

Gen 2:7 . . And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from
the ground

A physical species of life is incapable of relating to a spirit species of life.

1Cor 214 . . A physical man does not receive the things of the spirit of
God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot get to know them
because they are examined spiritually.

The Father and the Son relate to each other so well because they are the
same species of life.

In like manner: humans and their sons relate to each other so well because
they are the same species of life.

Can people relate to clams on an intuitive level? No; they can't, because a
clam's nature is foreign to human nature. In like manner: people cannot
relate to God on an intuitive level either because divine nature is foreign to
human nature.

God is spirit, and it is His wish that they who would worship Him do so spirit
to-spirit; viz: on a psychological level (John 4:24). Well; as-is, humans are a
physical species of life; and if they consist of any kind of a spirit component
at all, it is entirely human rather than divine.

John 3:6 . .What has been born from the flesh is flesh

The eternal life that Christ is authorized to distribute as per John 17:2-3
provides humans with a spirit-to-spirit connection between themselves and
the Father and the Son so that humans and the Father and the Son can
relate to each other on an intuitive level instead of only always on a physical
level; which in reality is merely an academic level.

Now I hasten to point out that the measure of eternal life that Christ is
authorized to distribute does not now, nor shall it ever, transform humans
into deities. That's not its purpose. But I will hasten to point out that the
possession of eternal life isn't optional; no, it's a must.

John 4:24 . . God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in
spirit

Not only is eternal life a must; it's also available.

2Pet 1:3-4 . . His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to
life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His
own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious
and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become
partakers of the divine nature,

John 4:10 . . If you had known the free gift of God, and who it is that says
to you "Give me a drink" you would have asked him, and he would have
given you living water

Rev 22:17 . . And the spirit and the bride keep on saying: “Come!” And let
anyone hearing say: “Come!” And let anyone thirsting come; let anyone that
wishes take life’s water free.

Do you know what it means "to have the Son"?
Those who have the Son have a spiritual and experimental knowledge of Him, true faith in Him; has Him dwelling in their heart, and living in them.

This is correct, but who is Him?
Romans 8:10 - And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.

Ephesians 3:17 - That Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith.

Colossians 1:27 - Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Very good, but who is Christ, or who did God anoint? As Christ is the anointed One of God. I'll give you a clue, David referred to Christ when he said the Lord said unto my Lord, referring to Christ.

Also here David spoke of Christ being always before his face, who did David see?

Acts 2:25
For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:"
