When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. (Prov. 10:19)

Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Prov. 29:20)

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. (James 1:19-20)

the thread title is what i've heard my husband say a hundred times.
he's a contractor, and a bit of a perfectionist, and he's taught the kids that. (me? i don't need to use it. :p)

but i was thinking about social media, and though this is the only media i use, many of us probably have Facebook, or Twitter, or that new one... Snapchat?
and that got me thinking my posts here (and everyone's on social media) will long outlive me.
my posts can be read by my children, and one day my grandchildren.
one day, in God's timing, i will type my final post. what do i want it to look like?

in this selfie culture we live in, it's easy for me to be all about me.
it's easy to forget God is watching me, and all things should be done for His glory and the good of His Kingdom.
so i'm posting this by way of reminder to myself that i should measure twice; cut once.

think twice; post once.

please add your thoughts as you wish, and of course, scripture. :)

LUKE 6:45.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good;
and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil:
for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

EPH. 4:15.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

as James says, 'If we can 'master' the tongue, we can master all of the members of our bodies...

oh boy, what a challenge, 'easier said that done'??? Jesus, give us Your grace to over-come'...

I don't like measure twice, cut once, but not for the reason you think. I don't know what I do wrong, but I tend to measure five times, and then hand the ruler to hubby, because every single time it's a different number.

Honestly, I sometimes do the same things with my post on here. I delete and start over thinking I'll get what I mean eventually. It's all what I mean. The problem is deciding what is the "what I mean" that God means too when it gets too complicated.

I have a lot of scrap wood in my words.

girl, why do you think i said i don't need it? i can't use it! i can't do it either! Mark gets a frightened look on his face if i try! (i'm laughing trying to imagine Mark with a scared look... almost inconceivable ;))

Good post :) And remember too, Mr Google (don't worry about Bing) has it all on record and can bring those records out even when someone isn't searching for it.

*shudders* yep.

and in this country, all tweets are being archived in the Library of Congress. can you imagine a more boring job than that?

btw---- did you know (lol) that back in 2002, before iPhones, or even iTunes, a young man went on a camping trip and injured himself. he took a pic and posted it to a website, apologizing for the poor quality as it was a 'selfie' ?
first use of selfie (according to my husband) was by an Aussie
. :)

(does this mean i speak Australian now?)

I think the words of James are also relevant here!

"Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. 3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.

How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so." James 3:1-10

Wait, we were talking about cutting wood? Not my thing either! Also I used to sew a lot, and the same principle applied there.

Tongue! I always edit my posts, giving me a chance to re-read my post, (measuring twice?) to get rid of all the auto-correct errors etc. That is when it hits me that maybe I need to copy and paste what I have written and come back to it later. Or delete parts or the whole thing.

But don't just leave the page open, and come back later - the post will be timed out.

As for the posts where I just charge ahead and post anyway, I think we kind of covered that in the bull in the china shop a while back. Or did we? Well if you missed it, God is working on making me less like that bull, and more like him. But not completed quite yet! It's a big job, but lucky my God can do it!
