Part 2 or 4.

What Jehovah’s Witnesses Believe

First of all, I am not writing this to point the finger in judgment, or trying to convert you to joining their cult or beliefs. This has been written to those few who are interested knowing the difference between what Christians believes and what the Jehovah Witnesses believe. So that when witnessing or generally chatting to the JW’s, you will have some scriptural armour and head’s up in what they believe and have the right scripture from your own Bible with the right meanings against their claims.

In some little areas, the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe much the same as orthodox Christians—for example, their rejection, as sin, of sex outside marriage; their acceptance of the Bible’s creation account, as opposed to evolution theory; and their belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.

But, in much other areas, their doctrines set them apart and mark them as what you may call a pseudo-Christian cult—especially their strict sect’s teachings on the following matters listed below: I have listed just a few below of what they believe, as there are too much to list in one go. As I know you don’t like reading long threads.

1 Christ’s Return: The Lord returned invisibly in the year 1914 and has been present ever since, ruling as King on earth through the Watch-Tower Society. References to the second “coming” are rendered as “presence” in the JW’s Bible. The generation of people who witnessed Christ’s invisible return in 1914 will not pass away before Armageddon comes.

2 Cross: According to the JW’s, the cross is a pagan religious symbol adopted by the Church when Satan, the Devil, took control of ecclesiastical authority. It had nothing to do with Christ’s death, since JW’s maintain that he was nailed to a straight upright pole without a crossbeam, or a stake the common term they use. Even though they use to take reference from the KJV Bible which says in Matthew 10: 38 “and anyone who does not take his Cross and follow me, is not worthy of me”. Since then, they changed their own bible and taken out the word cross and put stake instead. But who are they to change, add or take away from God’s word? Which they preach? A bit of a contradiction there somewhere. The JW’s abhor the cross, and new converts are expected to destroy any crosses they may have, rather than simply dispose of them.

3 Deity: The Father alone is God, and true worshipers must call him by his name Jehovah. The Witnesses are taught that Jesus Christ was merely a manifestation of Michael the archangel in human form—not God, but a mere created being. The Holy Spirit is presented as neither God nor a person but, rather, as an “active force.”

4 Heaven: Only 144,000 individuals go to heaven. This “little flock” began with the twelve apostles, and the number was filled by the year 1935. Approximately 9,000 elderly JW’s are the only remaining ones on earth today who will go to heaven, with the rest of the JW’s hoping to live on earth forever.

According to the NWT (New World Translation), the bible the JW’s use says this in Revelation 1: 7-8.Will beat themselves in grief because of him. Yes, Amen. I am the alpha and the omega, says Jehovah God. The one who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.

Now if Jesus Christ is shown to be the “Alpha and the Omega” and “the first and the last” while the JW’s bible also says that Jehovah God is “the Alpha and the Omega” and “the first and the last” therefore the JW’s must either admit that Jesus Christ is the almighty God—or else close his eyes to the word.

You may discuss this with the JW’s as follows, using their “NWT bible”, to quote that verse Revelation 1: 7-8. And after they quoted the verse, and say to them, you just quoted that someone is coming. Who? And in verse 7, says it is someone who was pierced; again who was that was pierced? You should automatically know the answer yourself who was the one who was pierced and nailed up to die right? Jesus! But in verse 8 says that it is Jehovah God who is coming, now could it be that there are two who are coming? No! Verse 8 refers to “the ONE who is coming, noticed the bold to emphasis the word one?

Revelation 1: 8 states clearly that Jehovah God is the Alpha and Omega. Note: what he says at Revelation 22: 12-13: “Look I am coming quickly. . . ‘” so, Jehovah God is coming quickly? But notice the response when it says it again, Yes; I am coming quickly” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus, Revelation 22: 20 even in their NWT bible. Noticed the end part of that verse, Amen! Come, LORD JESUS?

Finally at this point you might mention that alpha is the first letter in the Greek alpha-bet, while Omega is the last letter. Therefore, “the alpha and the omega” means the same thing as “the first and the last” Then, again referring to the NWT(New World Translation), continue like this: Who is speaking in Revelation 2: 8? “These are the things that he says, ‘the first and the last,’Who became dead and came to life again..... Obviously, it is Jesus. Who was Jesus identifying himself as being, when he called himself “the first and the last”? This is how Almighty God described himself in the Old Testament. Jesus knew that the apostle John, who wrote the book Revelation and later Bible readers would all remember these verses.

hey, Richie, thanks for the info! :)

the JWs used to come to the house quite frequently, and one day when two of them came, my husband and i happened to be sitting on the porch with our Bible, Greek lexicon and a laptop. when they challenged our Bible, i said, let's look at the original Greek, shall we?

the 'trainee', a lovely young woman, became really interested in what the Greek said, and i could tell she was questioning...

and now i'm sad because they never come here anymore. :(

i still pray for that young woman.
