At the birth of Christ, in Luke 2:13 (KJV) "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." This praise of the heavenly host began the ministry that changed the world. What does it mean?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
*
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. 1 Peter 1:3-4a

I was going to ask the same thing. Maybe he wants to know what the bold part means, but isn't it self-explanatory? Praise be to God Most High, and share PEACE and LOVE and GOODNESS! The Good News that the salvation of God has come to us in Jesus Christ, God is with us and for us, not against us, and we should be with and for each other, not against each other, as well.

Yes....PEACE!

And peace (Heb. "shalom") extends only to those who OBEY Torah (Ps. 119:165).

The gospel is a Torah-obedient gospel of peace!

Let us grow in faithful obedience to this Torah...

Let's stop pretending like it is abolished, terminated, or no longer applicable to us.

Peace, goodwill to men is what the heavenly host sang.
They didn't sing about obedience to the torah. They sang about God our Savior,
peace with God because of Jesus, not because of obedience to the torah, peace among man, forgiveness with each other, because God in Christ made peace and forgave us. We have a new covenant through the blood of Christ. Glory to God in the Highest! Let heaven and nature sing!

Um, wrong.

Pretty much the entire books of Galatians and Romans refutes that.

Plus:

Ephesians 2:15

Hebrews 7:18-19, 8:13

1 Corinthians 9:20

Colossians 2:14

Acts 13:38-39

2 Corinthians 3:14-16

peace with God because of Jesus, not because of obedience to the torah, peace among man, forgiveness with each other, because God in Christ made peace and forgave us. We have a new covenant through the blood of Christ. Glory to God in the Highest! Let heaven and nature sing!
So you claim the "peace" about which the sang is now FLATLY OPPOSED to the "shalom" of Scripture?

Yikes!

And if God is our Savior, then should we obey Him? YES! So why oppose His instructions? Let's obey! (not oppose!)

Furthermore, the gospel of Jesus Christ was the word of faith which Paul preached. This was a TORAH-OBEDIENT gospel of faith. That's WHY Paul quotes the Torah-obedient Dt. 30:14 passage at Rom. 10:8.

Yes, we participate in the New Covenant. And TORAH (Jer. 31:33) passes directly into the New Covenant.

So why oppose the very Torah of the New Covenant in which you participate?

Ephesians 2:14-18
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

The heavens rang because God was fulfilling His promise to send the Redeemer for mankind.

Peace through reconciliation secured through the blood of Gods Perfect Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. Peace through reconciliation not through obedience. The law demanded blood and God met the demands through Christ.

hi there, Billy :)

this is what sprang to my mind:

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we[SUP][/SUP] rejoice[SUP][/SUP] in hope of the glory of God. (Rom 5:1-2)

is that the kind of thing you had in mind?

Amen!

Thats pretty much what i said, Roger. Thank you.

Who is this bible guy jumping all over me out of the gate with false accusations and legalism?

I never said oppose or 'flatly oppose' anything, and all this keeping of laws is not what the heavenly host was singing about.

I was merely trying to answer the OP question regarding the highlighted portion of the verse, which, thank you billyd, for affirming that, with your clarification and word definitions.

I kind of think Christianity started at Pentecost the first time the word " Christian was used is found in ACTS where IN ANTIOCH they were first called.

You may be correct. I tend to believe that Pentecost was the climax of the building of the foundation of Christianity. Kinda like the graduation from school and entering the work force.

reminds me of this part of Job 7

when the morning stars sang together,
and all the sons of God shouted for joy

*“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. *But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. *Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. *You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. - John 14:25-28 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John14:25-28&version=NIV

I think God gives us peace that is not like this world. When nations of the world make peac, it is more of a cease from hostility and not true peace and love and friendship.

God's peace is security and comfort in the knowledge that God loves us and protects us and leads us.
