Being a new Christian what's the best milk for my growth. My church is doing a discipleship study right now so I'm being trained to be a disciple with Him. With God in my corner I'm already a winner, but I want to be a champion of God. Faith comes by hearing and hearing from the word of the Lord. I'm reading the bible because I want a deep close connection with Him. I was hoping some of you could point out scriptures that are good for nourishment of young newborn Christians.

Wrong way to approach this. Go with whatever program and progression the people teaching you have chosen to walk with you.

Hello, maybe the answer you wanted is what you may look at below.

Matthew 7: 24 & 25

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:12

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

My judgement is that it is good to use Matthew 7:12 to judge how to sound my voice to other people every time I speak to them and use Matthew 7:12 to judge which words to use to speak to people, a part of it thinking about the condition people may be in and thinking of what I would want someone to say to me if I was in someone else's condition. Matthew 7:12 may also be used for listening to people.

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Psalm 119:51

The arrogant mock me unmercifully, but I do not turn from your law.

You may compare what is above with what is below.

A translation of Philippians 2:4

"not looking to your own advantage only but each of you to the advantage of the others."

I don't want to give you too much to read in one post, I'm willing to tell you more if you want.

Study the gospel of John and the epistle to the Romans first. Get a Strongs concordance to look up things you have questions about. Write down your questions and take them to the pastor to get help in understanding troublesome passages.

It's all milk the first time you study it. It becomes meat as you dig deeper and become familiar with context and relate it to the OT.

You should have a 'private' Bible study session you do with our Heavenly Father and His Son only, at least one a week. Always begin it with a prayer for understanding, since it only comes by Him. Start at Genesis 1 and go all the way through, chapter by chapter, line upon line. When you get done, do it all over again, and again, and again, as long as you live.

Get some Bible study tools, like...

1. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance -this is a cross-reference tool with Hebrew and Greek Lexicons (dictionaries) with assigned numbers for each word in the 1611 KJV Bible. It will give you a close definition of the original word in the manuscripts the KJV translators used. This is especially useful for translating names and places which can sometimes open up God's Message in a chapter of Bible study.

2. The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge cross-reference - this allows you to look up a topic in one Scripture, and pull up similar Bible references to the same topic in other parts of The Bible. It kind of helps you piece a wider topic together in study, because 2 or more witnesses to confirm anything in God's Word is the requirement.

3. the Englishman's Concordance - with this you can look up any word or phrase and it will show all the other Scripture where that word in the manuscript appears. So if a certain English word in a verse gives you trouble on how to understand it, you use this to find out how the translators translated that word in other Scriptures where it appears. That gives you a better overall picture of how the word was used in the translator's day.

Most of those tools and many more, you can get in a Bible study software. I use BibleSoft which a lot of pastors use. Not real cheap though.

My own approach declares this ....

AT LEAST 90% of your dining should be done with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Also, as we eat food daily to feed our bodies, so also spiritual bread for the spirit should be taken in daily (our daily bread).

The greatest treasure to be had in any sense, is a close, active, personal relationship with God ... all else follows.

Constant and reliable dialogue between yourself and God should be our aspiration.

Oh ok it's all milk to start with then when we mature God gets us to dig into a deeper understanding. In my ignorance I thought there was specified scriptures a Christian should learn, but the word says truth comes by hearing and hearing from the word of God and Jesus was the word made flesh to train up the first church in how to operate in His name and through the Holy Spirit. Does that all sound right. I am not well versed in all the details.

though i would not read the old testament at first until you come to a deeper understanding of who God is as the old testament shows a side of God that may be confusing and give the wrong idea to new believers

I would sit down and read the Bible cover to cover. That is what I did.

One of the worst things to do is to jump around and cherry-pick verses from different places.
Read whole books at a time - slowly of course to take in what is being said.
Make sure the you concentrate on understanding what you are reading in the bigger context of the book and its author.
Someone recommend starting with the Gospel of John and Paul's Epistle to the Romans and that would be an excellent start.

Read what feeds your spirit. If that means reading the same thing over and over, so be it. The spirit will tell you what you need and what you are able to hear.

A great way to study is to use bible software that has cross references to other verses. I can read an OT quote in the NT, then click on the OT cross reference and jump to that verse. Helps tie everything together.

Jesus did this for His disciples after His death and resurrection...

Luke 24:27
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself.
KJV

In that time, the Old Testament Books was all that was written so far. So basically, our Lord Jesus went through the whole Bible with them. So we are not to leave anything out.

Hebrews 5:12-13
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

1 Peter 2:2
like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

Milk is understanding that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus work on the cross. It's understanding that Christ died for the remission of our sins and we are only deem righteous and worthy because he washed us clean in His blood. It is all through God's power and not our own.

Milk is having that assurance of God's unconditional love, grace and forgiveness.

Assurance is being able to recognize the Holy Spirit working in our lives, heart and mind.

Pure milk of the Word is reading the Bible and praying yourself daily. Allowing God to reveal His light and truth. Then life events and other people moved by the Holy Spirit will come into your life and affirm the truth revealed during private study...at least that's what has happened in my life.

My church is doing a class that's really helping me with my walk. It's following the model of Jesus teaching his disciples the basic principles of building the church. That will be very important in my walk and bring me closer to Him I believe. John 15:1-17 and Matthew 6:25-34 was the scriptures pulled from this week speaking n putting the kingdom first and abiding n the vine. The Journey is a never ending one. Jesus gave us the blueprint to the masterlife though He is at the center of it all.

Don't forget Genesis. It is the seed to growth, it is the foundation to all that follows.

Yet for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might show forth his unlimited patience, as a pattern for those who would believe in him for eternal life.

Exodus 23:13
And all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, and neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

Exodus 23:13
Keep all things that I have said to you. And by the name of strange gods you shall not swear, neither shall it be heard out of your mouth.

THAT is the wise way. Those people can hear which questions you have trouble with... they can see what you avoid... they can hear your voice as you speak about specific topics or subjects.

They, not strangers at the other end of an internet connection, can feel the pulse of your daily life. One of the fastest ways to foul yourself up is to ignore the church God placed you in.
