Hello One and All!!!

I hope all is well.

My father remarried my stepmother last month. Since then, pictures have been floating around on facebook. My aunt saw the pictures and she was angry. After she saw the pictures, she typed out a Bible scripture which reads:

LUKE 11: 24,25 WHEN THE UNCLEAN SPIRIT GOES OUT OF A MAN, IT PASSES THROUGH WATERLESS PLACES SEEKING REST. AND NOT FINDING ANY. IT SAYS, I WILL RETURN TO MY HOUSE FROM WHICH I CAME. 25 AND WHEN IT COMES, IT FINDS IT SWEPT AND PUT IN ORDER. 26"THEN IT GOES AND TAKE ALONG SEVEN OTHER SPIRITS MORE EVIL THAN ITSELF, AND THEY GO IN AND LIVE THERE: AND THE LAST STATE OF THAT MAN BECOMES WORSE THAN THE FIRST"
" who have ears to hear, let him hear".

I really don't know if my aunt is trying to say that since my dad got remarried, does that mean that he has re-invited demons into his life? I really don't know.

Can anyone tell me what this scripture means?

Thank you!

Luke 11:23
[SUP]23 [/SUP]He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.

This is what the verses mean. The Demons were able to come back because the person had refused to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

I think your aunt needs help because these verses do not apply.

My best explanation is this: We sin and then we repent of that sin. Then, if we let temptation get the best of us, we commit that sin again, only this time we are more skillful at committing that sin, so we cause more damage.

This scripture is referring to real demonic spirits.
There is no direct reference to sin in this passage.

With respect to your aunt, I don't necessarily believe that she is making a literal statement by quoting that Scripture.
What is certain is that she is mightily upset and clearly does not have much regard for your step-mother.

"The cause however which made the Jewish multitudes fall into such thoughts concerning Christ He Himself makes plain, by saying; "When the wicked spirit has gone forth from the man, it returns with seven other spirits more bitter than itself; and the last state of that man is worse than the first." For as long as they were in bondage in Egypt, and lived according to the customs and laws of the Egyptians, which were full of all impurity, they led polluted lives; an evil spirit dwelt in them: for it dwells in the hearts of the wicked. But when in the mercy of God they had been delivered by Moses, and received the law as a schoolmaster, calling them to the light of the true knowledge of God, the impure and polluted spirit was driven out. But because they did not believe in Christ, but rejected the Saviour, the impure spirit again attacked them: for he found their heart empty, and devoid of all fear of God, and, swept as it were, and took up his abode in them. For just as the Holy Spirit, when He sees any one's heart free from all impurity, and clean, dwells and abides there, and rests therein; so also the impure spirit is wont to dwell in the souls of the wicked. For they are devoid, as I said, of all virtue: and thero is in them no fear of God. The last state therefore of the Israelites has become worse than the first. For as the disciple of the Saviour said; "It had been better for them not to have known the way of truth, than that when they have known it, they should turn back again from the holy commandment that was delivered unto them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb; The dog that returned to its vomit; and the washed sow to wallow in the mire." Let us flee therefore from being like the Jews; let Christ Who works miracles, be extolled by us: by Whom and with Whom to God the Father be praise and dominion, with the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever, Amen."

When we are cleansed of all our bad habits , in case it was demons, we must be filled with something, teaching form the Bible led by the holy spirit is best, but sometimes folks make other choices that are not so good, however if we do nothing with our minds and hearts once they are cleansed that void is filled with something, when a believer is filled with the Holy Spirit then theres no room for demons....

We can sweep clean our house (try of our own volition to cease sinning) as an atheist ... but if we don't fill up that empty space with the light that is faith in Christ, our house will just get dirty again.

Did your aunt post this Scripture on the photos themselves? Did she tag your father in her post? Did she tell you the photos made her upset and that's why she posted the Scripture? I'm just confused where the connection is to the photos and her anger, since you don't say she posted it directly on the photo posts or to you or your father or stepmother and you don't say you were with her or she told you she was angry, so I just wanted to see if you could clarify how you came to the conclusion that this verse was directed at your father at all.

I don't know if anyone can say specifically what the scriptures means except the Holy Ghost but it sounds like you aunt is saying that when you father got divorced he was on his own and instead of finding a new place for his heart, either before he found someone new, or maybe he hadn't tried, but anyway he went back and to dwell in the same relationship he left. If it didn't work once then give it time, it will start of anew like but eventually it will revert back to what it was before and get even worse. (LORD knows I made that mistaken a few times myself.)

This is speaking metaphorically of the nation of Israel and her rejection as a whole of Jesus her Messiah.
Jesus cleaned house sort of speak, but Israel did not receive Him and so she was left clean and empty but without Jesus.
It didn't take long for satan to devastate her by 70AD as she was left desolate.

Notice the fuller context in Matthew...

But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Well, TonyJay, She was clearly upset when she called me and asked me if I saw the pictures on facebook, which I didn't at the time but she doesn't have regard for my stepmother because my stepmother displays bad behavior. She's nice and she likes to give things to people but she talks bad about it behind one's back but my stepmother told me that she changed her ways, started going back to church and trying to live a good life, but the rest of my family knows that she's not that nice.

That parable was about the falling away from the faith that was prophesied to come. Here is an old thread I wrote on the topic->>>>>http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/106348-falling-away.html

Here is a snip from the thread, notice what Peter says compared to Jesus words about the last state (latter end with them) of the man referring to a whole wicked generation....

Notice how Jesus refers to a whole wicked generation as “a man” and “ that man” (like Paul said) here in Matthew 12:43-45 “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.[SUP]44 [/SUP]Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.[SUP]45 [/SUP]Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

Now notice the wording Jesus used showing the “last state of that man” compared to Peters concerning this same falling away in 2 Peter 2:20-22 “For if after they have escaped
the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.[SUP]21 [/SUP]For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.[SUP]22 [/SUP]But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

My stepmother's the one who tagged my dad in the pictures on facebook and that's how my aunt saw the picture on her timeline. When my aunt saw the pictures, it made her upset and she called me and started asking me questions instead of my dad. After that, she posted that scripture on his wall.

My dad and my stepmother got married back in 2001 and got divorced in 2013. My dad divorced her because of her behavior towards me and the rest of my family and my family already knows that she does not like them and does not like me. They got remarried last month, so that's why my aunt is so angry with him.

Thanks for explaining. As others have said, this Scripture is more in reference to a person who is delivered by Christ and then returns to their sinful living. It becomes worse and more difficult to repent. You can see this clearly when one is addicted to something and is delivered and then goes back to it. It seems as though the addiction is worse and more violent each time the person returns. That's what is being referenced here.

Now, in regards to your aunt, your father may have confided in her some things that happened in the relationship that turned her against your stepmom. That happens. It is hard for people to accept that someone returned to someone they had problems with or were miserable with. I'm not saying this is the case with your dad, though. Other times, too, someone can see things looking from the outside that aren't really occurring, as they do not have all the pieces of the puzzle to complete it.

I have seen this happen many times in my brother's life, but I refrain from attempting to correct him or call him out on the things he does. He has many relationships and he has a lot of anger issues. Yet, he will not listen to anyone and he is insistent that it is always someone else's fault when the relationship ends. Though the intentions were possible not entirely good in this instance with your aunt, I'd suggest just letting it go.

There are a lot of people who will attempt to control things from the outside. Don't let there be any poison occurring. Have your father delete the post (if he hasn't already) and just love his wife and family. We can't please everyone. :)
