MATTHEW 24

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Some might find this of interest ... comforting ...

Jesus says here that no one knows the DAY or HOUR ... but He does say we can know the SEASON.

NO:
hour
day

MAYBE:
week
month

SURELY:
season

What is interesting is that He brings Noah into the picture here ... God gave Noah a heads up 7 days prior to the flood.

I have always taken comfort in the idea that if we are being watchful throughout the season ... He will give us also a weeks notice prior to His coming.

This is but one reason why I feel it is so important to have a close relationship with God ... if we are accustomed to dialogue with Him ... not only speaking, but listening for His answers and hearing them ... then we will hear such warnings. Not just at His return but in all ways.

A good question to ask yourself is ... when I ask God a question ... do I "hear" His answer ... we really should.

With respect to season I don't believe that God was referring to Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter in a literal sense.
With respect to the day (time, season) of His return we don't know this information.
This passage along with several others indicate that we will not be able to predict the day of His return.
In fact, it will take us by surprise.
Nearly every generation since Jesus ascended into Heaven have speculated about this time.
This generation is no different.

I would be interested in knowing why you would want comfort regarding the time of Jesus' return.
I personally do not regard this as something to fear - other contemporaneous events notwithstanding.

Yes a deeper and closer more intimate and more beautiful relationship with him is needed. I remember having a vision one day of a storm heading our way. I recall I was in a mountainous area surrounded by mountains in all directions the sky was dark and gloomy it had an ominous look to it and there was lighting and thunder strangely the lightning was purple the dirt was a grey like color and in my hands was like fine dust the wind was blowing softly making the dirt look like small waves and the wind was cool it neither warm nor cold to the north above the mountains I saw a dark and scary horrible storm it was dark and scary it had lightning and thunder as well but much more powerful and terrifying it was darker than I knew a cloud could even get and all I got from it was sense of terrible danger and chaos blood and death and it was approaching very fast with Jesus riding on top of it.

This storm I saw I believe is very prophetic and it appears far away in many's eyes but is in fact rapidly approaching and is actually far more close than what it appears like looking through a telescope backwards and once this storm hits I cannot help but feel that everyone is going to look back on these days like a fond memory only then realizing how good we really had it but knowing things can never go back to it.

The thing about sudden destruction is it doesn't declare it's arrival it's literally like a thief in the night you don't expect it it just happens. Also as for the two week warning you speak of if it helps you I have had two dreams about the rapture where I specifically had a sense of knowing inside me that the rapture is about to happen and not just me in one dream I felt this inside me and went to cc to see if anyone else felt it and they did

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

We are commanded to be watchful, looking for that day.

And it is those who stray in complacency that will be surprised as though by a thief.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Blain. :)

God always gives me warnings of things I should be concerned about ... I don't expect that day will be any different.

To each one according to his faith, I guess~

To me this passage is MUCH MUCH more to do with our conduct than it is anything about predicting His return.

Doesn't God warn you of things in your day to day life?

This issue is not in dispute.

However, the Word of God clearly tells us in several places that no man can know the day of Jesus' return

While we should not get carried away with watching and waiting for his return it is wise to always be watching and listening always seeking and searching. I myself don't have a view or stance on the rapture or his return but I always finding myself looking to the sky whenever I go on my walks as if I am subconsciously half expecting something or looking for something him specifically I always say when time are hard and I am longing for my savior I look to the sky whether I mean in a literal sense or a metaphor even I couldn't tell you.

The thing is while it's always good to be watchful we also must not forget that it's easy to become focused on the things of God rather than God himself

Looking all throughout the bible one thing I noticed is God always warns his own when something big is about to happen

I never said anyone would know the day ... I actually said noone could know the day.

I did not bring up the subject to dispute ... and will not engage in disputes with you over it.

I do wonder why you dodged a simple question asked in earnest.

Yes indeed! And that is something my hope rests on in day to day life. This is comforting always :)

Perhaps all the dreams and visions he has shown me and the sense I feel in my heart that whatever is coming is coming fast is simply him warning me.
He warns all of us but the question is are we willing to listen will our hearts receive it?

Nods ... I think that's the main point I was trying to make with this post ...

Surely this indicates that I am in agreement with you?
Ah, I see ... then I guess I don't really understand why someone who is constantly warned of small things to come would doubt that God would warn about big things to come...

Psalmist I think what he is saying here is that our daily living is more vital than simply looking for his return which goes with when I said if our hearts are not prepared then none of us will stand. Even more than looking and waiting for his return our love and our relationship our hearts and our daily lives with God must come first.

he was agreeing not disagreeing

What does "being watchful" mean?

Are we "saved" only on those days we are appropriately apprehensive and nervously unsure... so we are extra vigilant? And on days we are not worried about being "saved", then we probably aren't?

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Turn to God

Serve Him

Wait for His Son from heaven

Wait = to wait for one (with the added notion of patience and trust)
