Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:But the seventh day
[is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)

It's edifying to understand what the purpose of the 4th commandment was.

Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] the LORD that doth sanctify you. Exodus 31:13

Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] the LORD that sanctify them. Ezekiel 20:12

Resting in the fact that it is the lord who sanctifies us, and not our own works of self-righteousness, fulfills the righteousness of that law.

It's purpose was to point to the eternal rest that is available in Jesus Christ "today". (Heb. 4:1-11)

amen

so what about what sanctified us?

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time
those who are being sanctified.

(Hebrews 10:14)

there remains then a rest for the people of God, and it's in Him - because of what was changed by the cross & the empty tomb.

I would agree. The ceremonial law as that in which we cannot judge each other in regard to like all ceremonial laws are necessary but cannot make our consciences clean (they do not alleviate the payment of sin) they are used in parables that point ahead to our final rest when we receive our new incorruptible bodies.

Those who believe it is our rest have received their reward already.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Col 2:16

(Romans 13:10)

But now, by dying to what once bound us,
we have been released from the law
so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit,
and not in the old way of the written code.

(Romans 7:6)

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant -
- not of the letter but of the Spirit;
for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

(2 Corinthians 3:6)

say what??

say AMEN!

Every so often we get into a huge argument about the Sabbath. Some argue that it HAS to be observed on Saturday. Others, like myself, believe the point of this law is to make sure we get a day’s rest each week. I will site this Scripture to back up my belief:

[27] And he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath;
[28] so the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath."
Mart 2:27-28 RSV

Exo 20:8

By looking at the parable found in Exodus 20:8-11. We can see that the lamb of God who was slain for the sins of the elect was a work finished within the first six day. (the creation account) The 7th day is the eternal rest we do enter into. As a parable it is compared to the other rendering of the same commandment found in Deuteronomy 5 .And this time taking a different vantage point to announce the gospel in respect to God moving them Egypt used to typify the sinful world we live in toward the promised land .

Two different renderings but the same reason for each ...the lamb slain from that foundation. The eternal rest form the 7th day.

Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day ...............(the removal from Egypt account)

So you believe our rest is only for the sweet by and by? That we cannot enter into it "today"?

Has not Jesus come? Is He not the reality to which those things were only a shadow of??

So the lamb was slain because of our sin, which gives us freedom to sin all we want? how does that work?

The Sabbath was made for man. And God was specific, very specific, about which day it is. I wonder why someone would try to change the day? Why would someone seek to change times and laws?

They were free to sin all they wanted under the law, obviously. Have you ever read the OT?
