Have you noticed that our lives and our walk with the Lord is kinda like a set of stairs. You have to try so hard to make each step and when you are carrying extra weight, it is even harder. But when you finally reach the top you are rewarded. The flipside of that is that you can reach the bottom with just ONE Step and carrying all that extra weight is a breeze.

So if we fall off the steps.. we don't HAVE to get up.. but choose to because Jesus loves us unconditionally. Putting effort in for Jesus because He first loves us..

It isn't our faith in Him that keeps us in Him.. it is His commitment to us from His payment for our sins. If it were our faith that keeps us saved.. we would be forever going up and down like a yo-yo.. forever crashing and having to try and get our salvation back.

Anyway.. I agree it is like a staircase when we want intimacy with Jesus.. to walk after Him. But I don agree there are any HAVE tos
