using the term 'the eye' in this verse is a variation on a figurative device called 'synecdoche'...
synecdoche means using a part of something...often the most significant or active part...to reference the whole...
an example would be saying to someone 'lend me a hand'...probably you are expecting them to involve quite a bit more than just one hand in assisting you with whatever you are doing...
a scripture example is when jesus taught his disciples to pray for 'our daily bread'...he did not mean that bread was the only thing you should be eating...
in the verse in question 'the eye' is being used to refer to both eyes and to their role in the body...
