Some Christians think Jesus is absent from the Old Testament and that he can only be found in the New Testament.

Some believe Jesus was foretold from as early as Genesis 3:15.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your
offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.

Some believe Jesus was foretold from as early as Genesis 3:15.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your
offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.

Well, as I read Scripture, I realize that Jesus IS FOUND in Genesis, Chapter One, Verse 26 at the VERY LATEST.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

I personally find Him in Verse 1 of Chapter 1, and my justification for doing so is found in The Gospel of John, Chapter 1, Verses 1-3:

1) I
n the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 .) The same was in the beginning with God.
3 .) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Peter Stoner calculated the probability of just 8 Messianic prophecies being fulfilled in the life of Jesus. As you read through these prophecies, you will see that all estimates were calculated as conservatively as possible.

  • The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2).
The average population of Bethlehem from the time of Micah to the present (1958) divided by the average population of the earth during the same period = 7,150/2,000,000,000 or 2.8×105.
  • A messenger will prepare the way for the Messiah (Malachi 3:1).
One man in how many, the world over, has had a forerunner (in this case, John the Baptist) to prepare his way?
    Estimate: 1 in 1,000 or 1×103.
  • The Messiah will enter Jerusalem as a king riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9).
One man in how many, who has entered Jerusalem as a ruler, has entered riding on a donkey?
    Estimate: 1 in 100 or 1×102.
  • The Messiah will be betrayed by a friend and suffer wounds in His hands (Zechariah 13:6).
One man in how many, the world over, has been betrayed by a friend, resulting in wounds in his hands?
    Estimate: 1 in 1,000 or 1×103.
  • The Messiah will be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12).
Of the people who have been betrayed, one in how many has been betrayed for exactly 30 pieces of silver?
    Estimate: 1 in 1,000 or 1×103.
  • The betrayal money will be used to purchase a potter’s field (Zechariah 11:13).
One man in how many, after receiving a bribe for the betrayal of a friend, has returned the money, had it refused, and then experienced it being used to buy a potter’s field?
    Estimate: 1 in 100,000 or 1×105.
  • The Messiah will remain silent while He is afflicted (Isaiah 53:7).
One man in how many, when he is oppressed and afflicted, though innocent, will make no defense of himself?
    Estimate: 1 in 1,000 or 1×103.
  • The Messiah will die by having His hands and feet pierced (Psalm 22:16).
One man in how many, since the time of David, has been crucified?
    Estimate: 1 in 10,000 or 1×104.
Multiplying all these probabilities together produces a number (rounded off) of 1×1028. Dividing this number by an estimate of the number of people who have lived since the time of these prophecies (88 billion) produces a probability of all 8 prophecies being fulfilled accidentally in the life of one person. That probability is 1 in 1017 or 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. That’s one in one hundred quadrillion! http://christinprophecy.org/articles/applying-the-science-of-probability-to-the-scriptures/

Of course Jesus is found in the OT that is what he told the Pharisees and the Disciples on the way to Emmaus. Furthermore it is not just the 100 or so directly quoted prophecies in the NT that refer to him but hundreds of other places. The whole Bible explains the plan of God for mankind. The book of Revelation alone has an estimated 500 references to the OT. More than the rest of the NT put together. Many of the questions and debates found on this site would be answered if more attention to actual Bible study was given

Some Christians think Jesus is absent from the Old Testament and that he can only be found in the New Testament.

But I recently downloaded and read a fascinating study of prophecies in the Old Testament that are claimed to foretell the coming of Jesus Christ.

Christology of the Old Testament...
http://webmire.com/scholarly/cff/bible-resources/index.html

Let me know what you think.
Jesus had to be foretold in the Old Testament, for the Old Testament is a witness that the New Testament is true.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Isa 35:4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Isa 35:5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Isa 35:6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

Isaiah chapter 53,and 59.

Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Which there is more than that.

They preached Jesus out of the OT, thats how Philip preached to the eunuch out of the book of Isaiah and faith in Christ was born out of what was written of him in them.

Of the scriptures (and at that time all they had was the law and the prophets)

Jesus said of the scriptures

"They are they which testify of me"

This can be shown also in the eunuch for example, as he was reading in Acts 8:32 from the book of Isaiah

This verse,

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth:

he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,

and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth (See also Luke 23:9 in accord also with Acts 4:46-28)

There was one question unbeknowns to the eunuch, which he expressed which was "who" (specifically) was this former prophet (Isaiah) speaking of (In accord with Acts 13:27 along with the above)

Acts 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said,

I pray thee, "of whom" speaketh the prophet "this"?

of himself, or of some other man?

The eunuch just didn't know "the who" (or rather the name of the one) the prophet Isaiah was speaking (the same big question is in Proverbs 30:4 when it come to him who ascended or descended)

As the law and the prophets testify of Jesus Christ (the eternal life that was with the Father)

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:
and **they are they** which testify of me. (1 John 1:2)

The eunuch was no where near alone in respects to being able to hear the voices of the prophets (seeing Acts 13:27) even as their own rulers were in the dark until the light come into the world and left the same (even Jesus Christ) by whom the world was made (who was that light) and yet is that same light that lighteth every man.

We see Philip (having the eyes of his understanding opened by Jesus Christ) concerning the things spoken of in the scripture concerning Christ and has begun to expound on him through the use of the same (even as he is led of the Spirit to do so)

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, **and began at** the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

So it shows they preached Christ out of the prophets of old (which testified not only of him, but of what had just come to pass in their own day concerning his suffering and then entering into glory)

And we know this because they ask him earlier (not knowing it was him) this...

Luke 24:18... Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things **which are come to pass there** in these days?

Being somewhat surprised because of their hopes, and they went on to recount what had occurred in their days (with Jesus Christ)

And then Jesus reproves them in those very things

Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe **all that the prophets** have spoken:

Luke 24:26 **Ought not Christ to have suffered these things**, and to enter into his glory?

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, **he expounded unto them** in all the scriptures the things *concerning himself*.

As is also confirmed by them in Acts here

Acts 3:18 But **those things**, which God before had shewed **by the mouth of** all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.

Even here this way

Acts 3:24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, **as many as have spoken**, have likewise foretold of these days.

Then Jesus commissions them (as God has given Jesus as commander to them as shown in Isaiah 55:4) the one Moses wrote of (as Jesus said in John 5:46) shown here (in Duet 18:18-19) And confirmed in Acts 3:22 & Acts 7:37, which helps us to understand why Jesus said this here (In John 12:48- 49) and what is said here in Acts 3:24 Lastly, as we can springboard off of all the above seeing in Jesus praying to the Father in confirmation of the same, that "I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me" (even as the doctrine he preached was not his, but his that sent Him). And as the Father sent him so did he (their commander) as God the Father made him so sends them.

Mark 16:16 And he said unto them,
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God, as the voices of the prophets testify of Jesus Christ through whom they did preach him

And he has given commandment to these saying,

Mark 16:17 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

And then we see...

Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where...

Same with how Philip was led to preach the same to eunuch

Acts 8:29 **Then the Spirit said** unto Philip, said

Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. (who was reading the book of Isaiah)

Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias,

and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

And Philip preached Jesus out of Isaiah

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and **began at the same scripture**, and preached unto him Jesus.

And even what Jesus said, and how the eunuch understood it, it shown here

Acts 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest (be baptized). And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Acts 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Acts 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that theeunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

We see where the Eunuch was reading, which was out of the book of Isaiah (these having the testimony of Christ in themselves). And as faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God (even as Jesus Christ is preached from out of the same) just as we see Philip beginning at the very scripture written of him in Isaiah. Preaching Jesus Christ from the same (so that the eunuch could believe) as he fulfills them. Philip having mentioned being baptized because the eunuch himself specifically brings this up to him (in his own desire to be so) when he saw water, and so he was. He both believed in Jesus Christ (through the testimony of the former prophets) God having fulfilled the same in those days even by Jesus Christ (of whom) they were all living witnesses to and he was baptized and went on his way rejoicing.

At the beginning of Jesus ministry he too began reading from a certain place about himself in the book of Isaiah also (Isaiah 61:1 being read in Luke 4:18)

Luke 4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Luke 4:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

In other words, "thats me" (as they are they which testify of me)

And again, just as we have written recod of Phillip expounding Jesus Christ out of the book of the prophets here

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and **began at the same scripture**, and **preached unto him Jesus**.

The same is shown in Apollos this way,

Acts 18:28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, **shewing by the scriptures** that Jesus was Christ.

Paul also who was expounding and testifying of the kingdom of God

Acts 28:23 And... **Persuading them** concerning Jesus, **both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets** from morning till evening.

Even as our Lord said,

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and** they are they which testify of me**

As He is the eternal life that was with the Father (See also Prov 30:4)

Psalm 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: **in the volume of the book it is written of me**

And as Paul said,

Acts 26:22 Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, **saying none other things than those** which the prophets and Moses did say **should come**

The one leading you to Christ since he can be expounded out of them. These are they with a readiness of mind

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, **and searched the scriptures** daily, **whether those things were so**

Jesus also said,

John 5:46-47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Heb 3:5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, **for a testimony of** those things which were to be **spoken after**

And the apostles confirm the same

Acts 7:37 **This is that** Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; **him shall ye hear**

Since Christ gave them the words that He himself (even Moses testifies of) were given him of God, and would be as words given by one Shepherd (or as letting God be true and every man a liar in contrast) even as Christ said He did not speak from himself and we are told to speak the same things (having the same mind).

You can show the same things in Moses also according to what God said in Duer 18:18 and what Jesus and the apostles confirm (John 5:46-47 and Acts 7:37) just to name a few and how Jesus answers in accord with Duet 18:18 in John 12:49 and just one verse before that in John 12:48 answers from Duet 18:19 in the same as well. The OT is loaded with the things of him. This is posted elsewhere

As we see in Luke 24:27

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things **concerning himself**

And we see them here,

Acts 28:23 And... **Persuading them** concerning Jesus, **both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets**

A big faith builder, especially when you can bring them forward and show Jesus so others may see and believe. That was longer but it could be tens times longer than it was, its good to show them for whoever might care to see.
