im not sure i would hang the whole chastity thing on the RCC. the process started back in the 300s when it was just the official church and not so much the RCC.
when Jesus taught on the chastity vows He seems to be clear that its not for everyone. when the church encouraged priest to do this and later make it mandatory, it had the reverse effect on many of them. not a good idea in my opinion.
