Legalism is seeking to earn Gods approval and acceptance through obedience to God. It is substituting your own works for the finished work of Jesus.

Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Legalism in the biblical sense of the word is any attitude or belief system that human merit can produce, prove or preserve for one-self an acceptable standing before God.

Whenever our assurance of salvation rests upon our "performance" rather then upon the "promises" of God fulfilled in Jesus - we are in big trouble and we have fallen from grace.

We have been duped by Judaizers that have come in to get people to desert the Lord Jesus Christ to follow after the Law.

Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Thats right. Gods grace brings about our obedience of faith. It’s not just any ole obedience that God desires for us, it's a certain kind of obedience. It's obedience born out of our love for Him as a response to His love for us. He is not interested in obedience born out of some legalistic sense of duty or fear. That kind of “obedience” is merely external compliance, while the heart remains unchanged and defiant.

You relax those commandments when you do as you do in trying to set them loose from their moorings in the activity of God, by substituting your own activity for His.

I've not only read them, I understand what they mean. Live and learn, or live and don't learn, the choice is yours.

If you teach God's commandments as a means to salvation you teach Legalism and a false gospel.

zzzzz. who said means to salvation? just BenFTW.
I am just clarifying what Legalism is. Teaching man's commandments is not Legalism, its religion. Teaching God's commandments for the attainment of salvation is Legalism, or even teaching man's commandments for salvation is a form of Legalism. Just some clarity to the discussion. :)

Going back to the Law for living after coming to Christ is committing spiritual adultery on our Lord Jesus Christ.

adultery-3.jpg

2 Cor 3:14-18 is saying that to this day people that read Moses - there is a veil that covers their eyes and they can't see the real substance which is Christ.

The Law is a mere shadow of the real thing. When we turn to the Lord - the veil is lifted and we can now behold the glory of the Lord as in a mirror and the Hoy Spirit transforms us. - not the keeping of Moses's law.

Going back to the Law for life and transformation is committing spiritual adultery on the Lord. Romans 7:1-6 - we have died to the Law so that we could be joined to another - our Lord Jesus.

Going back to the Law after coming to Christ is like a husband looking at the pictures that his wife sent to him before they were married - but now he is married to his wife and she wants him to be with "her" now - not him looking at her pictures.

The Law was merely a picture, a type of the reality which is Christ and He is in us now and we are to be led by the Holy Spirit because we are now children of God.

Don't let anyone try to pervert the gospel of the grace of Christ. Paul had his Judaizers come in after he preached the gospel to try to get people to go now and follow the Law. He had some very strong words to say about these types.
These Judaizers are around in this day and age too.

No, We have "died" to the Law SO THAT we would be joined to Another - Jesus Crist. No one is going to fall for this going back tot he law for living. It's committing spiritual adultery on the Lord.

1) We live now by the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus

2) The law of love

3) The law of faith ( the Law id NOT of faith )

4) The law of liberty in Christ Jesus.

5) The law of Christ - Himself living inside of us.

These "laws" are what are written on our hearts now in the New Covenant. Don't desert Christ for the Law.

We don't need to "obey" Lev 18:23 to not to have sex with animals. The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus inside of us will stop that.

Everything in the Law was a shadow of the real thing which is Christ Himself.

The reason people are for not teaching God's instructions is because they love doing what is contrary to God's instructions. An adulterous preacher is not going to preach about adultery. If people love God they will love He's instructions and teach others He's instructions. In fact the love of God is to hate evil and every false way contrary to the instructions He has given us.
